Our experience was very different from the reviews that led us to book. We were a group of adults age range 47-63 and my teenage son, and have never had issues like this despite renting a lot. The biggest undisclosed detail is that the owners live on site. This was not mentioned anywhere, and although we were told they were discreet, that was not our experience. On our first day, a neighbour came to tell us we were “too loud” despite us only chatting with low music. She said she regularly intervenes with guests. The owner later told us to ignore her and said another neighbour sometimes calls the police, which hardly sets a relaxing scene. Several incidents followed: a mirror fell off the wall at 2am and we were blamed for it; we were reprimanded for leaving an outside light on; there was a strong drainage smell near the pool and roadside bedrooms; and during a heatwave with insufficient fans, the owner entered the house unannounced, told my son off for opening windows, called us “stupid,” and photographed the windows. A large piece of exterior plaster also fell by the toilet doorway. The owner’s husband acknowledged the façade needed work, but she later dismissed it as an “odd thing.” Checkout felt tense, with comments about lights being left on and a general sense of being monitored. Overall, we felt judged and watched during the week. The lack of disclosure about the owners living on site, the unannounced entry, and the atmosphere of surveillance made the stay stressful.
