Rare Historic Home with Large Yard: New A/C, Comfortable, Quiet, Steps to Town

This early nineteen century Cape Cod home with a large yard provides the best of both worlds - it's a comfortable place in a quiet residential neighborhood with walkability to town and beaches. We've just put in new mini-split air conditioners throughout the house to make one's stay even more restful, as well as an EV charger! Many of the original details remain, such as the wainscoting in the living room, artisan bookshelves, and wood floors. It has the charm of a rustic and historic home with modern conveniences and is filled with local art work. The kitchen features stainless appliances, a dishwasher, washer and dryer, and original wood floors. Enjoy an evening dinner with friends and family in the cozy dining room or outside with a gas grill, or sitting in the front yard. There are three spacious bedrooms with queen beds - one with an extra twin. Wireless Internet access throughout the home. Enjoy convenient parking for two cars.

Great house in a perfect neighborhood! Saphira is an awesome host and very responsive. The house is very clean and comfortable. Very well stocked. It strikes that perfect balance of a STR and staying in someone's home. I have stayed in many homes in Provincetown and this one is one of the best. Highly recommend.

Great location, plenty of space

You couldn’t have found a better location for a ptown stay. Nice outdoor area too for bbqing. It’s an older house so there are quirks to that. Good communication from the host of somehting goes wrong.

Comfortable classic cape cod house

We loved the house. Fully furnished with all of the comforts of home. Great kitchen. Tastefully decorated. Comfortable beds. Great central location but nice and quiet at night. Our only criticisms would be that the yard could use a little gardening and the anti scald water regulator for the shower on the first floor needs to be replaced as it wasn't functioning properly. I recommend this place and would love to stay there again.

Charming Property, Cannot Beat Location

Our stay on Pearl Street was fantastic. The home is a charming antique with all of the character a historical home offers. The bedroom AC units were a god-send in the crazy heatwave the Cape and elsewhere experienced during our visit to P-town. The home's location can't be beat. Right near everything on Commercial Street and a quick ride to beaches, stores etc., yet all is delightfully quiet. Spent several evenings in the yard as the temps cooled listening to birdsong, watching the bunnies and relaxing. It was a good week for the 5 of us. Thank you!

Charming Cottage- Perfect for groups

The great spaces and large front yard are perfect for groups and families. Enjoyed the well stocked kitchen every day. Perfect for grilling and relaxing in the front yard after a long day at the beach or shopping on Commercial. A very atentive host really sets this place apart. Very responsive and accommodating. Each room is appointed well with all the necessities and allowed for privacy if needed. Can't wait to be back in Ptown!

Great P-Town Vacation Rental!

We enjoyed our stay at 34 Pearl Street very much. This historic house in Provincetown is quaint and cozy with modern conveniences and the location is perfect! It's walking distance to Commercial Street, yet away from the noise. The beautiful yard is an added plus. We would return if vacationing in P-Town again.

Wonderful

We would certainly stay here again, without hesitation! The home is easily walkable to the main Commercial Street, yet is removed enough to be quiet. The house itself had great character as you may imagine a 200+ year old home does. Yet the functionality is modern - Wifi was strong throughout the house, updated electrical outlets, A/C in bedrooms, etc. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking pots and pans and plenty of glasses, and the washer & dryer were appreciated. We had 4 adults and a 13-month old baby and it was spacious - easily we could have accommodated 6 adults. There are two bedrooms on the second floor up a steep staircase (as is common in this age home) with a nice bathroom upstairs. The ground floor had the other bedroom with the full bathroom on the other side of the floor. One of the most pleasant surprises was the great backyard with a large table and plenty of seating - we spent lots of time relaxing out back!

The house was the epitome of charm and quaintness

This property gives you a first hand experience of the history and charm of P'town. It is perfect for a family or small group that want's a quiet, laid back lodging experience. There were enough modern amenities for our group, but note that parts of this house are 250 years old or more. Thus, there is a fair amount of quirkiness (e.g., the staircase is original, and created at a time when people had smaller feet. Definitely not for someone with problems ambulating). For those with an affinity for history and charm, though, it is comfortable and cozy. In addition, the rooms are spacious, and the outdoor space is great!

divine vacation rental in provincetown

The property at 34 Pearl in Provincetown is a wonderful oasis from the hustle & bustle of the main drag (pun intended) on Commercial Street yet close enough to feel apart of it all! The accommodations in this property are terrific. All new appliances. everything one needs for a week away in honest to goodness luxury (for the Cape) - PLUS the've got a washer dryer which came is really handy! The space is terrific and well appointed and the parking, wifi and yard all major plusses. The owners were easy to work with and we will definitely be back next year! family of 3 from NYC

Close to Town-Cozy with Updated Amenities!!

We just loved the house and the location... The walk to Commercial and the Wharf was just minutes away!! The house was a step into the past but with all the modern conveniences. There was 6 in our group and everyone loved their rooms; especially the comfy queen beds! Saphira was great at responding quickly to our questions. Will definitely recommend to our friends and have tops on our list for next trip to PTown.

Sobre o anfitrião

Anfitrião: Saphira Baker

My brother and I own this house together. We both grew up in Provincetown, and this house has been in our family since the 1800s. We love it for the traditional feel of the place (old beams, traditional architecture, steep staircase), the ease of accessing the outdoors (eating in the yard, or walking two blocks to get a coffee), and the privacy and quiet one can enjoy. We hope you love it as much as we do.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

We kept this house in the family because it is so lovely for vacationing throughout the year, has so much history and meaning for us, and is a unique and beautiful example of Cape architecture The neighborhood is quiet, yet you can easily walk to Commercial Street, or pick up a lunch at Farland, or put your toes in the water on the bay, all within ten minutes' walk. It also has two parking spaces - rare and important during the summer..

Here's an excerpt from a book on Provincetown houses, called Building Provincetown about the house: "This beautifully situated and relatively intact full Cape was constructed in the early 19th century.... [Serving as a small farmstead until the tern of the century]....has almost undoubtedly accounted for its fine state of preservation since then is its ownership by a single family, the Bakers, since 1926.

Benjamin Alton Baker (±1872-1952) was born in Wellfleet but spent most of his life in Provincetown, where he worked as an agent for the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railfoad and also, in the 1940s, as custodian of the Pilgrim Monument. His wife, Madge (MacDonald) Baker (d 1950), had been born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Her sister Wilhelmina (d 1948) was also a Provincetown resident, married to John Bert Bangs. The Bakers had a son, Edward M. Baker, to whom they transferred the property in 1945. He was married to Alice B. Baker. They lived in New York City and in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

It was in New York City that their son, Robert A. “Bob” Baker (1939-2007), was born. After spending many summers in Provincetown, Bob became a permanent resident in 1960 and opened a store called Bob Baker: Furniture Maker. Thirty-four Pearl Street is now owned by the fourth generation of Bakers, Bob’s children: Andus D. Baker and Saphira M. Baker.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

Read a recent email from a guest, "I just wanted to follow up and let you know how much our group truly enjoyed staying at 34 Pearl Street. Not only was the house spacious and accommodating – the added layer of staying in an exceptionally historic home made the vacation that much more special. Every little feature – from the fireplaces, to the steep stairs gave the home character that’s difficult to find. And the location was beyond perfect – we were just close enough to the hustle and bustle of Commercial Street – yet with enough distance to enjoy solitude and silence. And like others before us – relaxing in the huge yard was a daily relaxing ritual. "
