Cabin in the woods

Nice property. They are very nice people, and have 2 cabins. Pond is right there, but better swimming access just down the road at public beach. Not crowded at all.

The house was clean, well stocked, and has a great location! Our only complaints were that the outside amenities could be better maintained, the bed was a double not a queen size bed, and there is a security camera pointed right at the front door which we did not know about until right before check in. There is also no air conditioning, but there are nice fans and the weather was cool enough that it wasn’t an issue. Overall a nice stay!

Remote retreat

Great access to hiking trails. The camp was dark and tired. I suggest reviewing the write up information. There are several discrepancies between online and printed information.

The "stay" that never happened.

We reserved this property months prior in preparation for a family wedding being held on a mountain top nearby. Fifteen minutes prior to our departure and as we were loading our vehicle, we received a call from the owner indicating she was canceling our reservation because she discovered an inoperable heating system and could not schedule a timely repair. When we agreed to rent without heat, she insisted temperatures were much colder then they were in our adjacent State, which was clearly not accurate given the forecasts and real time reports. Still, we acknowledged it could drop into the 30's at night and agreed we'd bring appropriate clothing and blankets. We explained we had no option for dog sitting at this late date and a cousin staying with us was flying from Ohio into Portland the next morning. Though I understand the owners concerns, she remained emotional and irrational refusing any form of remedy or resolve even turning down our offer to provide access and repair oversight when she balked at living three hours away from the rental. In short, she abandoned us in a very rural area with few if any lodging options. We were most fortunate to locate a cottage 40 minutes further west that also had two bedrooms and accepted dogs. They and their property were delightful, but we lost a nights stay and paid more, something the first renter showed no concern for. We understand emergencies happen, but there was no cause to terminate our reservation at the last minute when we accepted the condition of no heat. We suspect something more was behind the owners cancelation and for these reasons can not recommend booking with her. To post we were required to complete the ratings for various questions noting only two, "communications with property manager" and "overall rating" are accurate.

Great little escape for our family!

Our family loved fishing on the dock, seeing tadpoles, frogs, and crayfish, and swimming at the public beach (too muddy at the dock for little kids). The lake is very quiet and peaceful at night. Heard the loons and looked at the stars from the hot tub. Property is very clean. Anntoneth answered all of our questions quickly! The house is on Shagg Pond in Sumner ME for iPhone users! This will help with locating the property.

Peaceful

Property was cleaned well but there was a weird smell in trash closet. Beds are too soft. Place is very quit and peaceful

Beautiful place on a lake

We loved our stay at Anntoneth's place! It was very comfortable, charmingly furnished, and well located to spend time out on the water. We spent our days hiking with the pup, rowing out on the lake, and just generally lounging in a wooded setting. Evenings watching movies on the large-screen TV with many cable options. The kitchen is well furnished with all the tools & appliances you need. Antonneth has thought of everything. My one caveat is that if you are an avid fisher (like I am), manage your expectations. The pond is beautiful, and it is indeed stocked with trout. But I learned after the fact that the stocking took place in April, and by the time we visited in late July the pond was pretty well fished out. I fished every day, every part of the pond, every depth, every lure I could think of, and every different time of day, and all I caught were one very small catfish, one small perch, and dozens of tiny bluegills. It turns out the lake was "chemically reclaimed" many years ago, which means the natural populations of other fish such as bass were eradicated. But that's just a minor point. It was super fun to be out on the water in this lovely setting. We were especially grateful that dogs are allowed. We try to travel with the pup when we can, and she loved it too. She loved all the woods walks we took her on, or just hanging out on the deck with us. If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and just kick back at a comfortable place in the woods and on a pristine lake, this is a great place!

Pleasant family experience

Well kept cabin with good cooking equipment, stove, BBQ. Pleasant use of canoe and row boat. Swimming opportunities. No a/c, but nice ceiling fans. Roads unpaved but passable. Nice place.

Fantastic Fall Foliage!

This was my wife and my first trip to Maine and we greatly enjoyed the four nights we spent at this cabin. The pond and area are beautiful. We found the area and cabin quiet and relaxing. The gas grill was was clean and had a backup cylinder. The cool nights (dipped into the 40's) made the fireplace very nice. Anntoneth took care of everything for us and we hope to return one day. Highly recommend!

A lovely cabin in the woods

My husband and I (and our pup) had a wonderful stay at Ann’s cabin. It was clean, comfortable, roomy, and the pond near the house was spectacular. It’s just an 8 min walk up the road to several great hiking trails, there’s a personal dock at the pond with canoes that guests can borrow (shared between this and another property), and a bonfire pit with Comfy chairs and firewood galore. Our only inconvenience was the slower internet (which is expected in such a remote area we learned). Ann was a very communicative, kind, and attentive host!

Nice cabin near a scenic pond

Nice cabin off the water with shared access to a beautiful pond. Second, larger cabin on property with direct water access is a few hundred feet away. The owners are very nice and responsive. Swimming not great from owner access point; better at the small public access point nearby (this could be improved by owner installing a swim ladder from their dock). Nice hiking trails within walking distance. Hike to beautiful little Concord Pond for nice swimming or bald mountain and speckled mountain for views. Only issue is a Personal pet peeve that is the same with most VRBO rental properties: old mattresses that should be replaced. However, we enjoyed our stay nonetheless!

Excellent Cabin in the woods

Our stay at Anntoneth's guest cabin was fantastic. The cabin was the perfect size for us, but might be a bit on the small side for a larger family. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots and pans, etc, and the unit was very clean. My boys loved fishing from the dock, catching frogs in the pond, and going out in the rowboat.

Hard to summarize everything. Had an amazing time. Host was great. Lake was beautiful. Cabin was just right. Only regret was not booking a longer stay.

Family celebration

Quaint cabin #2 ! you feel like you’re in the middle of nature. Any neighbors who go by or drive-by wave hello, very kind. Dated but quaint! Super clean! Kind extras left by owner greets you right away. Bring extra towels if you plan to boat or swim. Breathtaking nature 360* Shagg pond is so beautiful! The tap water is so fresh we filled our bottles for the trip home! 💜💜surprised only 1 mosquito bite! Lots of birds, humming birds everywhere.
