Seclusion and peace on an ecologically managed ranch in beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. Breathtaking views of vineyards and horse pastures. Charming rustic contemporary style home is surrounded by pines and oaks. The serene and private ranch environment will lift your mind and spirit.
The House: Enter through courtyard garden with culinary and medicinal herbs. Open plan living and dining opens to patios and expansive views. High wood beamed ceilings throughout, hardwood floors, fireplace, excellent spacious and well equipped kitchen with Thermador range. Adjacent utility/ pantry room. Guest powder room. Large master bedroom en suite, queen bed with Hastens mattress for ultimate comfort. Library-den with a cozy daybed can accommodate an extra guest as a second bedroom. A third bedroom and bath with separate entrance may be included for additional fee. Outdoor dining areas, BBQ. Relaxed unmanicured meadow garden in private side yard.
The Ranch:TALKINGHORSE BIODYNAMIC RANCH is a 7 acre integrated ecosystem, a working biodynamic ranch with orchard gardens, horse barns, pastures, and ranch animals. Abundance of birds and wildlife makes it a true nature retreat. There is spectacular star watching, a dry creek below ranch for an early morning walk, and nearby Figueroa mountain for hiking.

Very special place to stay

Stayed for 3 nights. This is a great property with a very relaxing vibe. We really enjoyed exploring the surrounding towns. Lovely farm animals and beautiful views. Highly recommended.

Amazing Views and Great Location!

We had a wonderful stay and would love to return. The property is surrounded by the most incredible views, and the sunrises and sunsets were magical. The openness of the floor plan and extensive windows really bring in the surrounding landscapes. The location is super convenient, as you can be sitting at a lovely restaurant in Los Olivos or Santa Ynez in just minutes, despite feeling a world away. The host is very friendly and helpful and will ensure a fantastic visit. Highly recommended!

LOVE!

This is such a hidden jam and just with the Dr ordered from busy Los Angeles. We instantly felt right at home. Basia made us feel right at home and was extremely professional and respected our privacy. Truly, what a gem!

Hidden treat

We have stayed in over 30 VRBOs over the past couple of years and this is one of our favourites. Everything about the property was so much more impressive than the description and photos suggest - a function of the host (Basia) being very understated! (She was really interesting to meet and cares deeply about the property and making sure any requirements are met.) The interior is beautifully light, spacious, tastefully decorated, with a large open living spaces. It has been completely refurbished, with high quality appliances and all the equipment one could need (even for a long term rental). We loved the open space of the ranch location and wonderful outlook to the mountains, but actually the rental itself is very private and secluded. There is a private courtyard on one side, and private terrace on the other, offering perfect spots for any time of day (we enjoyed wonderful sunrise breakfasts and evening grills outside). We were in the Santa Ynez area mainly for road biking and hiking, and were blown away by how beautiful the region is, with a fantastic network of roads for cycling, and great hiking around the Mount Figueroa recreation area. Highly recommended!

Truly a lovely property

We have stayed in the Santa Ynez area many times before and love the area, especially for golf and hiking, but our stay in this property took our vacation to a whole new level. We were blown away by the glorious views from the wrap-around windows in this lovely guest house. Massive horse ranches backed by the Figuaroa Mountains and vineyards climbing up the distant hillsides were reminiscent of Tuscany. Since we stayed here for 5 weeks, the view changed constantly with the time of day and weather conditions. We were never bored. This spacious, elegant, newly-renovated home has beautiful hardwood floors, a bright modern kitchen with all new appliances and is over the top equipped with dishes, high quality pots and pans, spices, coffee and teas, serving pieces etc. Since our stay was in January we were grateful for an efficient heating system, but the house has AC for summer stays as well. We were excited to see the house had its own herb garden in the warm south-west facing courtyard and we were free to use whatever we wanted. The courtyard is also a lovely place to enjoy the sunshine in the middle of a winter day. And if you like reading, the house has more books than you could possibly read in a year - many lovely coffee table editions. Since the house is part of a small functioning ranch, we entered the property through two gates designed to keep in the dogs, donkeys, horses and geese. One of the dogs was especially friendly, making a point of welcoming us back as we entered the property. Basia, our host, was very welcoming and responsive, while respecting our privacy. She even shared the bounty of the ranch bringing us pink peppercorns and massive goose eggs to try. She made many suggestions as to interesting places to visit and toured us round her ranch. If anything, I would say the description of this property on VRBO is understated. Our whole stay was very special and we were sad to leave.

Wonderful stay at beautiful property!

My husband and I recently spent three nights at this gorgeous property. From the moment we checked in, the host - and her friendly dogs! - were available and welcoming and had great recommendations, but also respectful of our privacy. We gasped when we first walked in and saw the view of the valley. Words and photos don't do it justice, you have to see it for yourself! The house is well stocked in the kitchen, there are hundreds of books, games, and puzzles, the huge fireplace is gorgeous, the water in the bathrooms is hot, there are so many comfy nooks to sit in -- every detail is thought of. The only thing I would note is that there is a manual double gate system to enter the property (for the protection of the farm animals), so if you're a city slicker just know that you will have to get out of the car to do the gates. We can't wait to come back, it was truly magical! We feel so lucky to have found this place!

Our romantic weekend get-away

Basia was an excellent hostess. She owns and lives on a majestic ranch in Santa Ynez surrounded by her own ponies, horses and geese that roam the premise. The accommodations are amazing - lots of large windows in our own spacious ranch house with beautiful views down into the countryside from a tall hill. The VRBO pictures do not do this place justice :) We would go there again and again.

Warm and friendly

We loved staying here. The house is so nicely laid out with many thoughtful touches, including a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and a scenic, restful view. The animals were also a treat to be around, and the farm's overall biodynamic focus is awesome. Hats off to Basia!

A wonderful, peaceful getaway!

My husband, my mother and I stayed at this wonderful property and loved every minute. The setting is beautiful and the accommodations are exceptional. I love animals and was in heaven getting to spend time with the donkeys and the dogs. What a treat to have special new furry friends to greet us coming back to the property! The double gate system is easy and so important to keep everyone safe and sound. Our host Basia was wonderful. The house is so well appointed and beautiful art and objects abound in the comfortable and lovely space. No detail is forgotten for making a great meal in the kitchen and the dining room table is such a gift for gathering loved ones. We can't say enough about our visit to Basia's retreat. It's really so wonderful and we were sad to leave and can't wait to return!
