Stonehouse is a Caribbean Style private house located on waterfront property in a quiet residential walking neighborhood smack dab in the most convenient vacation areas on he East End of St. Thomas. The property is conveniently located just a half-mile walk to the public beach at Secret Harbor and the marina village of Red Hook.

Stonehouse offers 3 vacation rental apartments, all with a fantastic unobstructed view of Secret Harbor and the Caribbean Sea. The apartments all have private entrances, decks and are fully equipped including linens, beach towels, beach chairs and coolers.

Imagine waking up to the gentle sound of the ocean and then spending the day snorkeling on the reef below. You can relax on your private balcony sipping your morning coffee and watching the sun come up or with a cool drink in the evening to watch the moon rise. You are surrounded by acres of undeveloped waterfront property that affords you seclusion, quiet, and privacy yet you are only three minutes to the grocery store!

Seaglass is a breezy top floor 750 sq. ft. of living space with Cathedral ceiling and Mexican Saltillo tiles throughout. The living room features West Indian Style shutters that open out to a fantastic view of Secret Harbor and the Caribbean. You can relax on your private open air entry balcony and feel the trade winds while sipping your morning coffee watching the sun come up or with a cool drink in the evening watching the moon rise.

Your local hosts Joanie and Robert deLugo look forward to having you stay at Stonehouse. They live on the property and will check you in when you arrive, answer any questions and help you if you need anything during your stay.

Perfection!

This is a quaint property within a local neighborhood. The views were stunning especially from the deck. We loved the breeze, the convenient location and the hammock! Joanie took us grocery shopping when we arrived and was super quick to respond and accommodate our changed travel plans. And she ensured our safety notifying us of an earthquake and tsunami warning that was later cancelled. Highly recommend!

5 star view /authentic sea cottage

We enjoyed our stay in this authentic beach cottage. If you are looking for 5 star luxury, this is not your place, but the views are stunning and the air flows freely off the ocean into the open air windows with hurricane shutters. The owner is very accommodating and available. There is air conditioning in the bedroom for comfortable sleeping. The closest beach ( Secret Harbour) is fabulous! Very private with a restaurant, bar, and chair rentals. Convenient location to Red Hook, Ferry to St John and Restaurants.

Beautiful place, perfect location

Loved our stay. Seaglass was equipped with everything we needed and in the location we wanted to be- adjacent to Secret Harbour and everything in the east end (Red Hook, Coki, Sapphire Beach). The view from the apartment was really so pretty and we had good breezes. Appreciated the AC in the bedroom. Will likely return soon.

Short but lovely stay!

We totally enjoyed our stay at Stonehouse in the Seaglass apartment. The owners couldn't have been more helpful. The unit has a super view of Secret Harbour with wonderful island breezes. BR A/C is quiet for sleeping if breezes waned. Stayed only 4 nights for family wedding and busy with activities but unit is well decorated, kitchen very well equipped, appliances very clean. Beach towels and coolers provided too. Easy walk down to beach. My husband (we are both in our 70's) has trouble with his ankles so we had taxi back. Taxi was quickly available. You can tell the owners love their island. Thank you Joanie and Robert

A great unit

We enjoyed our stay there, and would stay there again. A great view to the south, high on the ridge above Secret Harbor. Our hosts were very helpful, before check-in, during check-in, and as the minor questions arose during our stay. The unit was well appointed and as described in the listing. One item that may be of interest was the the knife drawer (yes, a separate drawer just for the kitchen knives) included a knife sharpener. Rare indeed!

MISREPRESENTED

1st of all the advertisement of this property was totally false. It did NOT have unobstructed Ocean Views. It has stationary shutters on every window that is able to be opened. In order to see the ocean you need to bend down and almost stick your head out of the window. The was NO deck. It was a tiny porch leading up to the Front Door. The only room that was Air Conditioned was the Bedroom. None of the windows in the Bedroom opened. The Bathroom was absolutely disgusting!! The Shower Stall measured 3 FT X 4 " by 1 FT X 8 ". My husband couldn't even spread his arms. There was also a moldy odor in the bathroom. Prior to renting the apartment I called and spoke to the owner regarding the walk to the beach and the accessability to taxi's. I was told that the taxi's knew where the property was and there would be no problem getting a taxi and it was only a 10 minute walk to the beach. Not only could we NOT get a taxi after call 4 taxi companies. The walk home from the beach was uphill the entire way back. We had to rent a car because no one knew where the property was located so it cost up an additional $700.00. The listing also said that is was handicapped accessible it also said it was wheel chair accessible, which was NOT the case at all. I am semi handicapped and had a difficult time getting from the parking lot to the apartment. The worst was the BUGS. It was absolutely disgusting. We ate every meal out. I could not cook because there were bugs crawling all of the kitchen cloth the sink, counters and walls. I finally called the owner. While we were out she sent me a text that she wipped down the counters but those bugs won't hurt you. I do not want bugs every where in the apartment even it they won't hurt me. It's was absolutely disgusting. I have photos of every single claim I have mentioned. The stove was not an automatic pilot light. You needed to light the pilots if you wanted to use the stove. No Dishwasher. When I go away I want at least what I am used to at my own home. I don't want to suffer. It's so sad that an owner would take advantage of travelers. I believe the owner has other properties available for rent as well. I can only speak for the apartment we stayed which I believe the name was Sea Glass.

Great Apartment

We stayed for 5 nights in the Seaglass Apartment. The apartment was in a quiet neighborhood and it was in a great area to view Secret Harbor from the deck where we also saw rainbows two different days. The property has very pretty landscaping and we saw several hummingbirds while outside as well as the adorable geckos. We kept the windows open all the time and had a great breeze to keep things cool. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen had everything available to cook meals. There were also grills available. It was nice that there was a safe available, beach chairs and coolers were provided, which we used daily. We didnt realize that the snorkeling gear was available on the other side of the property until the third day we were there, but once we found it we did use it to snorkel at several beaches. The location is close to Red Hook's restaurants, the Food Center, and the ferry dock to St. John. Joanie was welcoming and if you needed anything you just needed to send a text and she replied. I would definitely recommend staying at this apartment for anyone who has a rental car and who doesnt need to stay right on the beach!

Great Stay

We really enjoyed our stay at Seaglass. The combo of open air in the front room to feel the ocean breeze with A/c in the bedroom for sleep was perfect. The location is terrfic. Very convenient to Secret Harbor and Red Hook stores and restaurants. We also appreciated how well appointed Seaglass was with beach chairs, towels, and snorkeling gear.

The hidden gem

This is a spectacular place to stay! The view was gorgeous! I watched the sun rise in the indoor hammock listening to the sound of the ocean and rocking back and forth. This place has a full kitchen! It is spacious and has everything you might want or need. The host, Joanie was exceptionally accommodating and helpful! She created a book with recommendations of places to go and experiences to try. Awesome getaway

Our stay at Stonehouse was wonderful! The sea breeze through the traditional-style windows kept everything comfortable for us day and night, and the views are second to none! Everything was clean and well-stocked. The apartment is tucked away in a residential neighborhood but is VERY close to Secret Harbor and all of the great restaurants in Red Hook. It was also a great jumping off point for us to visit some of the beaches on the North side of the island as well as take the ferry for a day trip to St. John. Joanie was awesome - she introduced herself in person and was very responsive to us via text message for any questions we had. Would highly recommend staying here!

Great views..perfect location..awesome hosts!

This rental has 5 stars for a reason! The unit was located in walking distance from Secret Harbour and a 5 minute drive to Red Hook. Totally romantic and stocked with everything (and more) you will need for the week. The view was incredible and the living area comfortable with breezes all day/night. It was incredibly clean as well - we did not see a bug all week - rare in the islands! Joan was great - came to check in with us after we were settled and made sure we had everything we needed. She made us feel at home! We will definitely be back!

Even better than the pictures

We had such a wonderful, relaxing time here. It’s even more gorgeous in real life if you can believe it. I can still close my eyes and hear the sounds of the ocean and feel that wonderful breeze. The location is really good - you are tucked away in a quiet neighborhood but 5 minutes away from anything you could want in the Red Hook area - groceries, restaurants, bars, shops, ferries, etc. The house feels like it truly belongs in the Caribbean - you don’t feel like you’re just staying in some hotel that could be anywhere. The extra amenities were so nice, like beach chairs, towels, and snorkeling gear that we used every day we stayed there. And Joanie even left us some lovely little snacks upon our arrival, which was so nice after a long trip. We had a couple of minor issues like the TV had lines going through it (though it was still watchable) and the bathroom door latch not working so it would get stuck if you shut the door. The hosts were prompt in communication and coming to check out the issues, and acknowledged that both things needed to be replaced. They didn’t get fixed while we were there, but it’s also important to remember that this is an island and things can take longer to replace just due to availability issues. Even with those little hiccups, it was a wonderful experience and we would be happy to stay again.

A Quiet Getway

Stone House is a quiet place away from all the noise and hustle of tourist areas. You have amazing views of the sea and can feel the cooling sea breeze through the property. It is a short walk down the hill to Secret Harbor and a very short trip by car to Redhook for dinner or supplies. If you want to get away and not deal with other visitors this is the place to book.

When we first arrived, the property owner was there to greet us and give us an orientation of the property and area. The property was clean with a breathtaking view overlooking the water. The location of it was very hard to beat, within 5 min of almost anything you want!

Play this Stay on Repeat!

Joan was such an excellent host! My teenage son and I stayed and brought so many wonderful memories with us. The space is breath taking, clean, and has all the things you need to explore this slice of heaven. The rescue puppy was an unexpected, moment of joy. We will definitely be back!

Our Wedding/pre-Honeymoon Stay

Great space, and a welcome retreat away from the bustle of our wedding (our pre-honeymoon!). We have family who lives on island (whom we've stayed with over the last 3 decades of visiting STT), but it was nice to get away and chill at a vacation rental where we got to do our own thing. The space was delightful, overlooking Secret Harbour. We DID have some trouble with the heavy windows (sorry we dropped and broke the stave even though Joannie showed us how to operate it---sorry!), but honestly those windows were really cool and made us feel we were really out to sea. We were also grateful for the generator as the power was off on island for much of one of the days, but we still had access to many of our amenities, once we we got back to the rental---thank you. Our only slight complaint was that the space can be a little bit dark in the daytime---the same great windows that keep the space shaded and pretty cool don't quite let all the light of the glorious sun. We were not there for too long during the days (dealing with wedding stuff) but it'd be awesome if those windows could be opened up to let the space be flooded with light. (On the other hand, folks need to get outside and enjoy the sunshine for themselves, and we were grateful for those thick windows during the rain/thunderstorm we had one night into the morning. We imagine they are essential during hurricanes). Long story short, thanks for a great stay, and we will definitely recommend it, if we don't stay here again ourselves to escape our family!

Wonderful!

We couldn't have asked for a better accommodation for our first trip to St. Thomas! The property is beautiful, clean and a great location to Secret Harbor, Red Hook, etc... not to mention the stunning views! Joan was on-site and extremely helpful, and even took us to the grocery! I would highly recommend staying here!

About the owner: Stay local.. Stay Stonehouse! Robert and Joanie deLugo the owners, have lived at Stonehouse since 1982 and purchased it in 1996. Robert was born on St. Thomas and met Joanie when she moved to the islands in 1981. They have been welcoming vacation travelers at Stonehouse since 2005.

Robert's family dates back many years in Virgin Islands history, his father was the first U.S. Post Master General for the Virgin Islands and the main U.S.Post Office in Charlotte Amalie, Alvaro deLugo U.S. Post Office is named after him. Joanie is originally from Canada and Cape Cod, and relocated to St. Thomas after college in Nova Scotia in 1981.

Robert and Joanie both have extensive professional backgrounds in the Virgin Islands tourism industry. Robert has worked in the Virgin Islands aviation business since the 1970's. First with a seaplane company Antilles Airboats, which was operated by the actress Maureen O'Hara and her aviator husband Charlie Blair, then with Pam Am Airways and also Delta Airlines as the V.I. Station Manager from 1994 until early retirement 2012.

Since relocating to the Virgin Islands Joanie has enjoyed many years crewing on charter yachts sailing around the British Virgin Islands, managing a marina and charter yacht center in Red Hook and 12 years as the local representative for Apple Vacations, an international travel company. When not working Joanie and Robert enjoy traveling to Chile, Argentina, Paris and Cape Cod.

They welcome you to the Virgin Islands so they can share their local expertise on some of the better things to see and do in the islands. They reside on the property and will check you in when you arrive, answer any questions and help you out with anything you need during your stay.
