Other major activities in the neighborhood are journalism and fashion. The 2nd is also famous for its Sainte-Anne street, known to Parisians as a haunt for typical Japanese restaurants and shops.
The 2nd arrondissement is also home to the galleries -- traditional covered passages lined with shops -- which are quite possibly the prototypes of today's shopping malls.
While the previously mentioned activities are all daylight activities, the eastern end of the arrondissement - notably the charming rue Montorgueil - has an entirely different reputation, younger and more dynamic.
