Ferguson Farmhouse originally had 282 acres with over 10,000ft of lake shore. Today the private property has approximately 3 acres and 176 feet of shoreline on Oak Lake. Its on a private dead end road. The best place to be in the morning is in the porch watching the sunrise. While drinking coffee with friends and family. The sunsets are amazing from the end of the driveway. it is approximately 35-40 minutes south of Duluth and 1&1/2 hours north of the Twin Cities. Truly enjoyed our stay! The house was spacious and fit our 4-generation family that was staying for the weekend. The grandkids loved the large yard and basketball court. And, the fishing was fantastic! Ronald (host) was helpful with information and allowed us early access and use of his pontoon which was extremely generous. We have family in the area so hope to stay again in the future!

Host was very responsive & easy to communicate with! The area was private & quiet, & we all enjoyed the farm house vibe & time around the fire pit each night. We were disappointed at no swimming beach or sandy area for little ones to play, but use of the pontoon made for fun swimming out in the deep areas of the lake! SO much fun!Kids enjoyed fishing from the dock for crappies/blue gil.The house was Not well stocked with basics such as Kleenex aluminum foil,baggies storage containers,first aid items ....but we made it work.Overall...a wonderful stay.

Very much enjoyed our summer vacation here! We made good use of the plentiful amenities, including the water toys, the Blackstone for breakfast fry ups, and especially the sauna! I'm researching one for myself now :D Ronald was a communicative and gracious host and was quick to answer our questions. Duluth is a fun day trip (Great! Lakes candy kitchen and the Glensheen mansion) and there are fun state parks nearby for hikes and picnic lunches.The only downside was that the fishing was unsuccessful, but what can you do?!? Jump in the water and enjoy the perfect summer temps, that's what! End of July and the water was sooo refreshing!

This property is one of the top VRBO properties I have stayed at! The owner was quickly responsive and generous. The property itself was clean and beautifully peaceful. The hospitality was A they thought of everything! Loved the sauna and since it was a family stay, the blackstone for cooking for a crowd and a large table to gather around. Nice indoor and outdoor accommodations. Very comfortable and welcoming! We’d love to stay here again!

This farmhouse is a very special place! You may not notice it immediately from the outside, but when you walk in, you will see all of the beautiful woodwork and special original features that make this property so beautiful. There was so much to enjoy here from the well stocked kitchen, a gas grill and a Blackstone grill for cooking, a screened porch facing the lake, a screened in gazebo outside which provided shade and dry cushions throughout our stay, two fire pits (one near the cabin and the other near the lake), plus kayaks and paddle boards for enjoying time on the water. We loved the busy hummingbirds at the feeders and the eagle sightings, plus the loon calls in the evening. It is quiet and peaceful, with so many comforts from blankets and beach towels to dry firewood. There is plenty of room inside and outside for people of all ages. The host, Ron, was very good to communicate with me before and during our stay. This is a gem and we made many happy family memories in our time here grilling, eating, playing cards, floating on the calm lake, soaking up the sun, building a campfire for smores, picking a DVD for movies after dark, and more. Thank you!

Quiet, lovely place only a short drive from the cities. Great outdoor space, plenty of bedrooms and places to sit. Beds were comfortable. Lake was great for swimming and we enjoyed the kayaks and paddleboards.

Beautiful vintage farmhouse with a perfect layout offering plenty of indoor and outdoor space to gather, but also privacy for alone time and quiet visiting. Lots of room in the yard for setting up tents, over a dozen places to sit outside, and the parking is generous as well. The front porch was our most popular hangout - watching the lake and the hummingbirds. It even made the one day of rain feel like a special treat. A close second was the sauna. The kitchen worked well for accommodating multiple helpers at once, and the big dining table with pull out leafs was ideal for a family style meal and breakfast buffets. Oak Lake is great for fishing any time of year, but not so great for swimming in August, especially around the shoreline, The dock area was too weedy and green for us to fish, but the pontoon was easy to handle and allowed for good fishing and sunset cruises. FYI: the slope down to the lake was challenging for those in our crew with bad knees and other mobility issues, as were the stairs into and out of the house - no railings. I enjoyed my two nights here alone, but this place is especially ideal if you need to accommodate a larger group and prefer to be surrounded by nature in a private setting. Thanks much to the hosts. - Two suggestions from my group: mirror in the downstairs bedroom and a hammock or two.

a great get away

Beautiful property and so neat to stay in this old farmhouse. The kids really got a kick out of it. The lake was perfect and the pontoon was great to use on the lake.

Great family vacay

We had a wonderful experience at the Ferguson farmhouse. We really appreciate Ronn for all of his assistance when needed. I highly recommend this property and host! We made great use of all of the amenities (sauna, patio, fire pit, black stone grill, basketball court, paddle boards and pontoon)! Perfect place for our family get together! Great memories were made!

Smith family vacation

The property was exactly what we were looking for. Plenty of space for the kids and enough space to have privacy. Ron was very generous and had squirt guns and water balloons for them which they thoroughly enjoyed. Great place to get away and enjoy some peace and quiet. Already planning our next trip to the farmhouse.

Nice, relaxing getaway

We enjoyed our stay. The property was in a fine location right on the lake. There were a few minuses, like the upstairs bathroom/shower could have been in better shape, but overall this spot was worth the money spent. We weren’t too successful with our fishing efforts but that was more on us than the owner. Overall, would recommend the property.

Thank you for your feedback. It helps me make things better for you and future guests. Fishing in the spring my bay is great for Sunny’s, bass, and northern. ( I have caught a 36 northern off my dock and 4lbs bass. ) Summer in deeper parts of the lake. Ice fishing is good next to all the other people ice fishing. Walleye I have done well in deeper parts of the lake in May.

We had a fun time staying here with friends – the place was comfortable and perfect for a group getaway. However, one thing that bothered us was that the listing didn’t mention anything about cameras on the property. As a group, we felt a little violated finding out about them after arriving. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay and appreciated the space for our trip.

Thanks so much for staying with us and for the great feedback! I’m really glad to hear you and your group had a fun and comfortable stay. I totally understand your concern about the cameras — I should’ve made that more clear in the listing. Just to clarify, there are cameras: one in the breezeway, one on the porch (both watching the entry doors), and a couple around the exterior of the property for security purposes only. There are absolutely no cameras inside the home or anywhere private. I’ll update the listing to make sure that’s clear for future guests. Although the property is updated, it retains the characteristics of a farmhouse. The kitchen was updated, but still had, what look like, original built-ins. The bathrooms were updated, but the bedrooms looked original with hardwood floors, solid wood doors, and antique hardware. The lake was good and almost empty on Thursday and Friday. It got busier on Saturday (about 10 boats), but still didn't feel busy. We didn't get a chance to try out the sauna.The owner was responsive, check-in and access were easy. Overall we had a great time at the property.

My wife and I purchase this home when my twin daughters were 2 years old and my oldest was 7, now they are in college we thought it would be nice to share this great property with guests and families.

You will have approximately 3 acres of land to enjoy. Along with 176 feet of lake shore with a 80 ft dock. Oak Lake was voted one of 16 best fishing lakes in Minnesota in 2021. It is located on dead end private road.

One of the most unique benefits is that there is a Kuuma wood fire Sauna. Besides that Ferguson farmhouse was built in 1902. It has been updated since then. The home has 4 bedrooms is approximately 4000 square feet (1200sq ft unfinished). The children's bedroom #4 sleeps up to 6 children. Only age 7 or older on top bunk of the bunk bed. Thank you for following this safety rule. You and your family and guests will be able to enjoy approximately 3 acres of land, with 176 feet of shoreline on Oak lake. Oak Lake is a 442 acre lake. With outdoor basketball, horse shoes pits, 2 bonfires pits. With Local ATV trails that can take you to the state forest or to Mooselake, Duluth. You can drive your 4 wheelers, side by sides or snowmobiles right from Ferguson farmhouse driveway. Please respect my neighbors privacy and their private property) In the winter you can enjoy snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing.
