Denis and Carolyn invite you to share our special, very private, beautifully decorated 2-story, rare corner-penthouse condo located within the Tao Residential Community. We are here in Mexico from November to the end of March and have been doing projects to make our home even more comfortable for us and our guests. New inverter air conditioning units, new Italian furniture on the penthouse terrace and a beautiful bureau in the dining room. A major attraction for us is the gated community offering security and little traffic with no construction noise.

Our area is double-gated with an entrance off the highway and another gate to enter the residences where we live. We feel completely safe day and night and love going for long walks or bike rides with almost no traffic.

After owning a condo in busy Tulum for sixteen years we are thrilled to now own our new “place in paradise”. While we still enjoy the excitement of Tulum on a day trip, we love the quiet peace and security of the Tao community. Tulum is exciting but very busy.

We are retired teachers and have lived and worked in Jamaica, Puerto Rico, England, Australia, and Canada. We have now found our special place in the sun here in Mexico. Carolyn is a professional artist and many of her original paintings are in the home.

When you rent “Casita Caribe” you are renting from the owners—not a large rental company and you will get personal attention from us and our wonderful manager Darren who lives nearby. Since this is our only holiday home where we spend much of the winter, we do like to know a little about our guests to make sure our place is suitable for you. We do not host parties or event groups. Our home is perfect for sharing with friends, couples, and families.

This luxury condo is elegantly decorated with handmade furniture crafted from the finest local hardwoods, Carolyn's original art, authentic Mayan crafts, and private gardens. The open floor-plan living/dining area comfortably seats 6 and opens out onto a furnished terrace. A rare corner unit with more room to relax.

Details include granite countertops, exquisite Mexican hardwood trim and furnishings, and high-end sunshades and blinds. The condo includes modern remote-controlled AC; a new large flat-screen TV with Roku-TV, good Wi-Fi, a well-appointed kitchen with breakfast bar; and all appliances including a new gas stove, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, air fryer, and washer-dryer. All new ceiling fans were installed in April 2022.

Both the master bedroom with a king bed and the guest bedroom with a queen bed have en-suite bathrooms. Both bedrooms have A/C. There is also a new pull-out sofa bed in the living room.

New for 2024, we now have a sleeping loft/ work space with desk and internet on the top terrace area with two individual beds and air conditioning for comfort. There is no ensuite bathroom in the loft and users will need to use one of the ensuites in the condo on the main floor. Our older grandkids love being away from "the adults" and having their own space!

Our unique rooftop terrace is private and only accessible from the condo. This terrace is larger and more private than most penthouse terraces because we have a corner unit. It has fragrant and flowering tropical plants and provides ample outdoor living space. It includes a Jacuzzi, eating areas, an open-air kitchen and bar, and living areas - all with magnificent views of the pristine jungle.

Rooftop living offers occupants private sunning, stargazing, and relaxing on the gardened terrace while enjoying Mexico’s gorgeous sunsets. This private rooftop is a magical place for an early morning cup of tea, breakfast, or an evening glass of wine. The top terrace is accessible by interior stairs and children would need adult supervision at all times on the terrace, and in the Jaccuzzi.
This corner unit has expansive views of the sky and jungle.

There is free parking in the very secure, gated, community of Tao which is a wonderful place for morning walks along the clean and well-maintained paths.

The Akumal/Tulum area offers fascinating things to see and do.

Akumal (a 5-minute drive) is home to the protected sea turtles, and you can swim with them at the local beaches. Nearby is world-class snorkeling, diving, and fly fishing; underground cenotes; Mayan ruins; a 1.3 million acre bio reserve; and of course the famous white-sand beaches. There are many area restaurants in small local towns just a 5 minute drive away that offer great authentic fare for very reasonable rates. A list of our favorites is available to you at the condo.

Our wonderful manager lives nearby and is always willing to help. You will be provided with a QR code that grants you access to the Tao Residential Community.

The Tao Wellness Centre with a new restaurant is only a five-minute walk away. Enjoy the peace and quiet of this wellness community The wellness community offers you yoga classes, two lap pools, a full spa, a Mayan sweat lodge, and a fitness area for a modest fee.

The Kay Ocean Beach Club at Akumal Bay for Tao residents is a lovely beach club and you can take the free shuttle to it and enjoy the restaurant on the beach. There is no fee to use the beach. Palapas and loungers can be rented if you wish. We usually take our own food and drinks and enjoy the public beach for free.

There are several other beaches that are only a short drive away plus there many nearby beautiful cenotes for great freshwater swimming. The vibrant town of Tulum, with Mayan ruins and its beaches, is only 20 minutes away. After a busy day in Tulum, return to the peaceful setting of the Tao community. On our terraces, you will see and hear birds--not traffic or construction. We love the warm, quiet nights.

Once booked, we will provide you with details about car rentals, easy directions, things to do, and places to explore. Great nearby authentic Mexican villages with family restaurants at non-tourist prices are only a 10 minute drive away. We take a personal interest in our guests to have a great visit while enjoying our home.

I loved the plants and all the trees surrounding the property. Access to a washer and dryer was definitely a plus. Having the access to the Wellness Center was a great perk too.

Slice of paradise

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If we'd left it up to our kids they would have chosen to spend our entire week up on the balcony. We did snorkeling, Chichen Itza, Coba, and lots off searching for the best tacos. The location was ideal!The house is well stocked and had everything we expected and then some. I had read reviews that said places like this lack the cultural experience because they feel like little America. It's true that it did feel that way, but I was grateful for it. After days of keeping a constant eye on the kids it was nice to be in a place where we could let them have a little autonomy.

Wonderful Stay

This is a beautiful property. Probably one of the best stocked condo's I've ever stayed at. The rooftop is a wonderful place to relax. The owners were fantastic communicators and went above and beyond to answer any questions. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. Thank you and will look forward to coming back soon.

Golf Getaway

Great place. Love the rooftop patio. Very private and relaxing. Bedrooms were nice and quiet with own bathrooms. Golf course is very good but very busy as well. We enjoyed the 19th hole outdoor bbq restaurant at the course. Owners were easy to deal with. Had issue with rooftop jacuzzi and it was fixed quickly.

Great place to stay

The owners Denis and Carolyn were very communicative throughout this whole process. The penthouse suite was exactly what we were looking for three people. There was plenty of sitting room on the top terrace/lower terrace, working jacuzzi tub and a spacious living room. All appliances were in working order and had plenty of amenities, like extra towels, sheets and kitchen items. The condo was extremely clean and had plenty of A/C units and fans throughout the place. We would definitely stay there again.

Christmas Trip with teens

Beautiful home. Stayed Christmas week with my husband and 3 teenage daughters. Great communication with just— everything was as described. Clean. Safe. We rented a car so that we could drive ourselves to beaches, Xcaret, etc. wish we would have found the BIG grocery store in Tulum sooner— we went a couple times to the Super Aki— which was a decent store for groceries. But there is a Walmart style one farther into Tulum. I can’t remember the name. Lovely trip.

Great private condo

Beautiful property close to Akumal South with plenty of room and balconies to enjoy nature. A car is needed but you can use local pool, go for walks and even walk to the beach (about 20 minute walk). The owners were incredible communicators and gave so much helpful information, even before the trip began. There is a property manager but communication with the owners is much more seamless and recommended.The community is beautiful and the home was clean and well maintained. Great, authentic restaurants are less than a ten minute drive.

Condo was in great location and in excellent condition Very quiet and surrounded by lush well maintained vegetation. Easy access to pool and walking paths. Welcome letter description needs to be updated to reflect changed policies regarding access to other resorts in the area and access to the wellness center. Description infers that being a renter allows you to access these areas as part of your rental but in reality everything is extra charge. The entire complex is very upscale and a lot of new construction going on. Will definitely look at returning to this rental if we come back in the future very nice.

Tao Magic!

I loved staying in this penthouse and the Tao community. Denis and Carolyn are excellent communicators and provide an extensive welcome packet with great info on the home, community and general area. I was sad to leave such a lovely place. Highlights include sleeping with the screens and waking up to the bird songs, stargazing on the terrace in the jacuzzi and swimming in the various pools. There are bikes to get around the immediate area of the resort complex, but a car is definitely recommended as the dining options are only a few as of now in the resort. It looks like there is more to come as I saw new phases set for development. The décor is very chic but relaxed (beautiful art by Carolyn!). Comfy bed, good shower, A/C if you need it and all the things needed to make a great meal! I look forward to another visit!

Stay in Tao

I’m sure many people will have a great experience staying at this very nice condo. But if you’re looking to be around locals and be centrally located to Tulum or other towns, look elsewhere. Denis communicated early and often beginning more than a month in advance. I appreciate his thoroughness but he sent many documents which contained pages of info that was redundant. When it came to check in, Denis did his part well but the complex required two separate QR codes to enter and the property manager, Darren, dropped the ball on sending one of them despite numerous reminder emails in the days leading up to our stay. We got the code minutes before arriving and the fact that it was only possible to enter with the presence of the person who made the reservation initially forced our party of 5 to do everything together outside the complex. The actual condo is very nice, we had no complaints except for the huge numbers of Americans inexplicably living there. The complex is huge and winding, designed entirely around having access to a car, and contains at least one sign to the Tao community where the condo is which, if taken, leads to a dead end. The Americanized restaurants and all English signs in the complex make it feel like a Kafkaesque gringo playground. Keep in mind it’s 25 minutes to Tulum and over an hour by car to either airport. The beach is geographically close but easily a 10 minute drive unless you take the unmarked bridge to the overpriced Kay Beach Club.

The owners and property manager were truly delightful - they provided excellent information for our trip, were very responsive, and sweet. And the property was great, too - well stocked/appointed, clean, convenient, and extremely safe and private. I can’t say enough about the owners and property manager and their place. A great experience. Exceeded expectations.

Carolyn and Denis are retired teachers. Carolyn is originally from Jamaica and Denis is from Canada. We have lived and worked in Jamaica, England, Australia, Puerto Rico and Vancouver Island, Canada. We bought our first Mexican condo sixteen years ago in Tulum which is busy-- but exciting. We now love our new home in the Tulum/Akumal area which is very quiet and relaxing but close to beaches and cenotes. We live here for several months of the year and enjoy keeping the home in good condition with upgrades and projects. Our adult children and families love visiting us during Spring Break and school holidays. Carolyn is a professional artist and Denis likes doing woodwork back at our home on Vancouver Island, Canada. Many of Carolyn's paintings are in our home in Mexico.

We wanted a penthouse with a private roof-top terrace as well as a lovely terrace off the living room. We are in a smallish building on the top third floor. The elevator is an added plus for easy access. Mornings are wonderful with the sound of birds everywhere. We are surrounded by trees and tropical plants. This is a quiet, gated community and we enjoy daily walks with very little traffic..

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

Having a corner penthouse means more room than most condos. We have two patios--one outside of the living room and the huge private rooftop terrace with loungers, tables and chairs--plus a hammock, Jacuzzi, counters, and sink.
We love the well-maintained walking paths, roads and jungle in the area. The PGA golf course is an added plus for those who enjoy the links. The area is quiet and safe with excellent security and management. While not on the beach, we are only a short drive from great beaches and cenotes. There is a free shuttle to the Kay Beach Club with great swimming, a public beach (free) and a restaurant with umbrellas and loungers for rent. Good shopping is nearby in Tulum (20 minutes) and Puerto Adventuras. (15 minutes) Great real Mexican villages only minutes away with local prices and wonderful food at family restaurants.
New this year is a mini-plaza with a mini-market, and three restaurants. Just a few minutes walk from our home.
