As you mentioned, the golf cart route and wading across Eastern Lake is something that can happen occasionally, especially when rain moves through—the lake naturally opens to the Gulf during these times. The good news is that the water remains super calm and safe for all ages. We did provide additional information on plenty of other nearby public beach accesses, and we’re glad you were able to take advantage of those during your stay. It’s also worth noting that Eastern Lake is one of South Walton’s rare coastal dune lakes — a truly beautiful and protected part of nature. These lakes naturally filter and refresh the surrounding waters, helping keep our beaches clear and clean. The calm, shallow outflow is also generally very safe for little ones to splash and play in.
