Great stay!

The house was clean and quaint. The showers left something to be desired but otherwise the accommodations were great. We knew ahead of time that we could not use the fireplace but it would be great to have an outdoor firepit or something for the mountains! The location was close to the grocery store, some restaurants and only a few minutes to downtown Black Mountain. It wasn't too far up the mountain but still secluded. We had 4 adults and 2 children. We set up the baby's pack-n-play in the game room but then realized the room doesn't have a door, just FYI! Overall, we had a great stay!

Rough edges

First, the good: the home is thoughtfully renovated and well-furnished with a very comfortable bed. It’s also close to town if that is the reason you are staying, and the drive is easy. The not-so-good: this is not really a “retreat.” What isn’t clear from the listing is that this house is probably the closest you can get to I-40 within the circled area. While the house looks like a treehouse in the woods, there was no possibility of enjoying a morning cup of coffee on the porch without feeling like we were basically at a rest area on the highway. The noise is also noticeable inside, too, though definitely considerably dampened. We were attending an event in Black Mountain and had hoped to find a relaxing home to stay in, but this wasn’t what we’d had in mind due to the noise. Additionally, the primary bedroom lacks privacy: the only window coverings are sheer net curtains. In a room that faces the street, this made me uncomfortable, not to mention it would have been nice to have more room darkening for sleep purposes. Overall, it was a clean home proximate to town with a comfortable bed, but we ended up leaving a night early because our home is more peaceful and private.

While we're pleased to hear that you loved the comfortable furnishings and convenient access to town, we're sorry that your overall experience was anything short of excellent. We appreciate you sharing your valuable feedback and recommendations with us on how to improve the guest experience moving forward. I'm happy to share that as a direct result of your feedback, we have audited the home's listing details and removed the "secluded location" amenity which was selected in error; we apologize for this oversight and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We do hope that you will consider staying with us again at a different Greybeard vacation rental better suited for you and your group should you return to the area.
