Wonderful home in a perfect quiet location. Has everything you need to be cozy and comfortable. Loved being able to travel with our dogs and kids. And the fenced in yard was truly so helpful. Krista was an absolutely awesome host and gave us really helpful advice about local spots to eat, fish, kayak, etc. Seal Cove and this part of Maine was one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever visited.

Perfect for Doggos - lots of great touches like furniture covers and water bowls. The fenced-in back yard is perfect for letting dogs out at night without needing to get shoes on. Location is really great - can get anywhere on MDI in 30 mins or less. Host was great and was responsive when we needed anything, but didn’t bother us otherwise. Beds were comfy and laundry and dishwasher were great for our 2 week trip. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you for an awesome trip to Acadia!

This was the perfect getaway for my wife and I during our first ever trip to Maine. The residence was clean and had so much charm. The bed we used was very comfortable. We didn't need to use it much but the bedrooms upstairs each had window a/c units. You don't need to bring anything other than some basic groceries and your clothes. The kitchen was stocked with most necessities (cookware, spices, dishwasher detergent, cleaning supplies). Having a washer and dryer was also great (detergent was included). We were able to bring fewer clothes knowing we had access to them. We loved the location. It was on the west side of the island and so much quieter than on the east side. But it wasn't too time consuming to get over to the east side. Bar Harbor wasn't really our cup of tea but Acadaia was beautiul, although very very busy. This was the perfect place to escape all the hussle and bussle of the east side. And communication with Kaitlin was always east and fast. I highly recommend this place, esspecially if you have a dog (we didn't have a dog with us). You'll love it.

Cozy and beautiful

The cottage was cozy for our family of five. The close proximity to the park was nice. We definitely felt like we were home.

Quiet side of Mt Desert

The property was located in a quiet and relaxing area, but still within a short drive of all the sites of Acadia. A small fenced yard was perfect for our dogs as well, we definitely had a great time.

Acadia fun

Property was clean and the perfect size for our family of five, plus black lab. The fenced in yard was helpful for our dog. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking and we enjoyed using the grill. We recommend checking out the car museum walking distance from the house.

The cottage had the most well stocked kitchen - well sharpened knives and even a KitchenAid mixer. You could prepare a feast if you wanted to. Everything was very clean. Dog bowls, separate dog towels and poo bags were supplied. The bed we used was very comfy. The hosts were quick to respond to any questions. There was not a lake view from the cottage but it is not far from many stunning views.

Adequate

Property owners were responsive and refunded a nights stay, but the level of cleanliness was a big issue. Cottage had not be cleaned and was not ready for us. The cottage needs a deep, detailed cleaning to make it comfortable. Renters need to be aware that the fence is for larger dogs, as the mesh is too large for smaller dogs. Downstairs gets warm, but the upstairs bedrooms have AC. Location is great and out of the busy side of MDI.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We had hired a new turnover cleaner who has since been fired. We apologize that this was the experience you had in our home. We have since hired a new turnover cleaner and have had great response to her abilities. There are fans for the downstairs windows located in the laundry room (as indicated in the house manual.) You are correct the backyard area is better equipped for medium to large dogs who don't jump or climb. We had 3 elderly dogs when we installed it and it was a great means of corralling them but we also don't advertise a fenced in backyard for that reason. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the sunrises from the back deck and that despite the hiccup on your arrival enjoyed your time in Acadia!

Affordable, pet-friendly cottage

Our stay at ‘Slice of Haven’ was great! Well-stocked with all necessities and then some. Comfortable beds were appreciated. I have stayed in many MDI properties and have never seen a rental kitchen that was so well supplied. Spices and a few pantry staples were on hand, as well as appliances like blender, electric kettle, coffee grinder and french press. All of which I use daily at home, so it was great to have those. You will find plenty of decent quality cookware including a nice big lobster pot, which is a must! We made use of the gas grill also. There were a few games and toys thoughtfully included for the kids. Lots of thoughtful items for dogs, too. We were very comfortable in the house and the backyard looks onto a lovely native meadow and apple trees.

Pleasant Little Cottage

Our family of 4 had a nice stay here. We had everything we needed and never had to contact the hosts with any big issues. The house is well-appointed with plenty of spices and cooking utensils in the kitchen and many thoughtful touches in the bathroom such as toiletries, first-aid kit, and hair dryer. The upstairs bedrooms were comfortable and kept cool by two window air conditioners. There are no window ACs downstairs so it can get pretty hot. There was a nice deck and grill for hanging out and eating outdoors. A couple of things to be aware of: 1) there is an overwhelming smell of wet dog when the house is hot and windows are shut. We have stayed at pet-friendly houses in the past but this was the first time we've experienced this. 2) the door leading into the kitchen sticks (a LOT) in hot, humid weather. My husband was the only one who was strong enough to pull it open.

Joe and I travel for work most months of the year but our home (lovingly called Slice of Haven) is our home base. We love Acadia no matter the time of year and want to share the area with other outdoor enthusiasts. Joe grew up on Mount Desert Island and I transplanted to the island 13 years ago.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

Our home acre was split off of the original property named Sweet Haven and we thought Slice of Haven was a perfect name and nod to our wonderful neighbors. Our neighbors who still own Sweet Haven have a volunteer project growing over 1,200 tons of food in tidy raised beds for food insecure elderly folks in our island communities. Krista volunteered at this project and the rest is history. It is a quiet community with lots of green space between homes with spacious yards and fields.
