Happy you enjoyed your May stay. The State of Wisconsin defines and establishes design, licensing and maintenance of publicly used swimming pools, hot tubs, water attractions, etc. under WI State Statute 254, the former Comm ch 90 and DHS ch 172 (now administered by WI-DATCP). As such, our "residential style" hot tub is NOT licensable, is therefore not included in any of our amenity advertising, and as such cannot be offered to quests under of DHS ch 195 lodging permit. Our hot tub is personal property that has not had water in it for years. Though you may occasionally find such units in use at other WI licensed Tourist Rooming Houses offered on VRBO, they are operated outside the WI health department guidelines. So the real issue here is not that you were unable to use our personal hot tub, but rather, why are some inspectors following code advising lodging owner/operators to not allow such use, while other owner/operators are disregarding this restriction, and/or the inspectors are either ignoring, or not enforcing their own departmental statutes and codes. VRBO reaches well beyond WI and does not make such a Wisconsin distinction in what a member offers as an amenity. Hope this clarifies the issue as to why the Honey Dew Lodge does not have a guest usable hot tub.
