It is all set in a natural enviornment of coconuts, lemon, orange, papaya, guanabana trees, bird lovers paradise that will make you to enjoy nature and relax. And also enjoy the ambience of the flowers and the hummingbirds.
It is located walking distance to restaurants and one could get by
well without the cost of a rental car.

Gabriela and her husband were really nice. The communication we arrived was excellent nd everything was really clear. During our stay we felt like ot was our little home. It was cozy and clean. The kitchen was perfect to cook, there was everythind you need for coffee, to cook, make smoothies and everything! As an illustrator it was so typical that i drew a little sketch. Perfect location to stay in playa avellanas as a couple! Will come back soon!

Wonderful time spent in a property that made me feel like i was staying where i was. Atypical construction true to the area. Not some sanitized corporate property. Hosts were wonderful and responsive! When we left we felt like we had made friends!

Amazing place to stay in Playa Avellanas!

My husband and I spent three weeks in Playa Avellanas. The house was perfect with a short walk to the beach and multiple restaurants. We loved getting up in the morning, drinking coffee, and listening to the local troop of Howler Monkeys. We appreciated being able to cook in a well-stocked kitchen and have a centrally located home for our travels in western Costa Rica. Finally, I can't say enough about our hosts, Gabi and Rick. They live on the property, were very generous with their time, answered lots of questions for us, and overall made our stay comfortable and memorable!

Charming home and great hosts

Safe, peaceful, and beautiful property. We enjoyed meeting the hosts and exploring the local beaches (10 minute away). House includes two bedrooms, bathroom, well equipped kitchen and living room. The main bedroom has AC and the shower has hot water. Very charming and authentic!

Blue Lagoon is rustic and has all the basics you need

Tip # 1 google maps took us on a wild goose chase but Waze app worked well. Top #2 **Leave your key in the door when you are home or hide it on the property. The door automatically locks when closed.(it was blown closed numerous times). The owners were home when this happened to us the first time and were quick to let us back in. We got accustomed to the split level kitchen and the other steps throughout the house quicker than I thought we would. WIFI can be spotty in C.R. (esp. in the evening) and we lost electricity for a few hours one day (this happened to us on a previous trip to a different part of C.R.as well). We were able to cook on the gas stove. We had packed flashlights and Gabby provided some candles so it was no problem. We found we needed to boil water to make it hot enough for dishwashing (common in C.R.) also kitchen towels are not customary in C. R. There was warm water in the shower. We enjoyed spending time outdoors in the shade on the benches and hammock as well as supper under the stars on table and bench side of the house. There were a few bugs in the evening so pack accordingly. We enjoyed our walk (15-20 mins.) to the beach on the path through the Mangrove for a day at the beach. We stopped for a smoothie and Micheladas at Lola's to watch surfers and stayed on the beach to watch the lovely sunset. You can rent beach chairs from Lola's for 20 USD (we didn't). Or just sit in the restaurant area in front of the beach.They stop food orders at 5 and close at 6 (not sure if this is normal or due to the pandemic beach curfew). We didn't eat here or at any of the restaurants since we had a fridge full of food! We took advantage of the fantastic fish from Thursday's fish truck. We got 2.4 kg (1.3 tuna and 1.1 Mahi Mahi) for 19950 colones. (We did not meet the fruit and vegetables vendor truck because our stay was short) We also bought 1 litre of Rick's honey for 7000 colones. Gabby was very respectful of our privacy yet easily accessible. She is just a text away on the other side of the hibiscus bush if you need anything. This was our 2nd of 20 - 3 day rentals =60 days in costa rica. it was our least expensive by a bit. wonderful hospitality, gabby!

Gabriela and Richard are marvelous hosts, extremely friendly and helpful without being a bit intrusive. The neighbor is great and local businesses friendly too. The beach is awesome. Excellent stay

It was an amazing trip made complete by my stay with Richard and Gabriella. There was open communication before and during my trip to make sure everything was squared away and to my liking. the house was accurate to the listing online. The renters live next door so if you need anything they are right there and are very friendly and accommodating. The property and house is clean and beautiful. Perfect if you want to get away from the city and enjoy peace and quiet. Still restaurants and hotels nearby if you wanted to go out to eat. The nearby beach is beautiful and great for relaxing, surfing, swimming and great coastline for taking a nice walk.

Excellent, quiet beach experience

If youā€™re looking for a quiet experience and great surf then this guest house is a great choice. The owners live on the property and are wonderful people. Their local knowledge and kindness adds to the experience. Beautiful palm canopy, sounds of birds and monkeys in the morning and a 10 to 15 minute walk to the beach and surf. The kitchen is well-stocked and makes eating in easy. If youā€™re looking for a place away from the typical tourist development and hustle this might be the one for you.

Beautiful and Charming!

The property is absolutely magnificent, it made our stay perfect. It felt very secure as it is protected by a large wooden gate. The home was ideal for our getaway with a short walk to the beach and beautiful scenery. The area is very diverse with wildlife such as monkeys, iguanas and many different species of birds. The owners were great and fluent in English. You can clearly see that they were always happy to hold a conversation (they also have amazing recomendations of places to visit) and quick to fix any problems you may encounter. We recommend renting a car to explore the province and travel to all the beautiful cities and beaches (the house has on-site parking). The only downsides would be the irregular water temperature in the shower and the slightly stiff mattresses. We are very happy with our vacation and the way it turned out, would reccommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and wonderful time.

Perfect home away from home.

The Blue Lagoon Beach House was just right for our needs. It has everything that you need for daily living. Gabby and Rick, the hosts, make this a 5-star place! They go out of their way to make you feel at home, and although they never imposed on us, they were always there if you had questions or needed help with getting around. The house is just the right size for two or three people, the outdoor patio is comfortable and we spent a lot of time in the hammock. And you can drink the tap water, which is a bonus. Rick's honey is delicious! The gardens make the space feel private and calm. We stayed for a month without a car, and it is doable to not have a car, as there is a bus that runs once a day into Santa Cruz, and there is a small convenience store within a 10 minute walk. The fish truck comes by once a week and there is a fruit/veggie guy that comes by Gregorio's (a restaurant) on Mondays at around noon if you want to buy fresh produce. The beach is a 10-15 minute walk away, and it's the best beach we've ever been to! The lagoon at high tide is perfect for cooling off in. We walked along the beach to Tamarindo a few times - it takes about 2 hours and should be done at low tide - check the internet for when that is. We took a taxi back which costs $25 US. There are several restaurants here in Playa Avellanas within walking distance. All serve delicious food. Gregorios is a local bar/restaurant that makes great smoothies and Chupas, and has cheap local beer. Much cheaper than Lola's! Overall, if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful place to just chill, and you like to walk, this is the place! Thanks so much, Gabby and Rick, for making our first visit to Costa Rica so memorable!

Rustic and comfortable

We loved our stay at the Blue Lagoon. Gabriella and Richard were perfect hosts. Available, helpful, kind and so so friendly but never imposing. The area is wonderful. A surf and nature loverā€™s paradise. Unspoilt with a friendly community of like-minded people. The walk to the beach across the boardwalk is good fun and well worth it. The howler monkeys and giant crickets are remarkable. As for the blue lagoon, it was very comfortable and clean. Itā€™s not fancy but has everything you need for a simple and good stay. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor space and hammock, Sharkey the pet dog, the well equipped kitchen, and the comfy beds in an air conditioned room. We would return to the Blue Lagoon in a heart beat. Pura Vida!

Wonderful place, beach and people!

Three of us stayed in the house for a month, and we all loved it! The house is clean and nice. Relaxing in the hammock was a favorite pastime. Not a far walk from the beach, we could carry our boards to and from without any issues. The beach itself is very nice, not a ton of snorkeling, but some fairly consistent and great waves! Two of us had never surfed before, and they found waves they could enjoy. Good breaks for intermediate and advanced as well. Gabriel and Rick are wonderful hosts, helping us out with grocery runs and teaching us how to make some delicious Tico meals! We really enjoyed our stay!

AMAZING

This was the most amazing week! Rich and Gabriela (and the dog Sharky) are such wonderful people. This home is fully equipped and very comfortable. We stayed for a week and would have loved to stay longer. The walk to the beach was short and fun, every time. Gabriela took her time to teach us to cook a traditional Costa Rican meal. While they live on the same property, they offer a great deal of privacy and are there if you need them...leaving you be if you don't. I always felt very comfortable and safe here. I will definitely stay again. This was just lovely. You will not regret staying here.

We stayed there 4 nights. The kitchen was a big plus. Completely stocked with everything you might need. Full size fridge and gas range. You really save some money cooking in. VERY clean, and simple. AC in the main bedroom, and hot shower was a plus. We loved the hammock outside, though we wished it were a double. Property felt very safe. The walk to the beach was short. Gabriel and Richard were fantastic, if we needed something they would always help. I had a cough and Gabriel showed up with a lime, and honey, that honey from their bees was awesome. All said, we will be back.

Your own slice of Paradise...

I originally spent February of 2016 at Blue Lagoon and loved it so much, I booked it before I left for July and Aug. I had to leave two weeks early in Aug. for work and was so bummed, but I will tell you that if you are looking for piece of paradise to call your own, no matter if it's for 3 days, 3 weeks, or 3 months...this is the place! Avellanas is the best beach around. The beach is long and beautiful, and the water is amazing! I was there once or twice a day, which is another thing...the walk from the house to the beach is not only short, but half of your walk is on this cool little boardwalk that you have to see to believe (everyone takes pictures) and you are sure to see howler monkeys and iguanas along the way...it's the coolest! Once at the beach you can go right and have your own slice of the beach to yourself, or left and head to Lola's which I will say is the coolest bar I have ever been to, and I've been to a lot! It's world famous! If you get in the mood for some more action, there is a shuttle that runs you in and out of town (Tamarindo) several times a day. Again, this was the most amazing place and the Blue Lagoon was by far the best spot. I would meet people and they would ask where I was staying and they had tried to book it, but I got to it first, so make sure you book in advance! Finally, Rick and Gabriela, your hosts were the BEST! You couldn't ask for better people...Rick knows the ins and outs and Gabriela really helped me with my Spanish...they are now friends for life! Not sure if you can tell, but I highly recommend!

Wonderful Stay and Hosts!

I was traveling solo and stayed here. Rick and Gabriela and Sharky the dog were very accommodating hosts. The place had everything I needed for accommodations. The walk to the beach was a pleasant one that usually involved monkey and iguana sightings, as well as interesting birds and friendly people. There is a surf shop on the way to pick up a surf board or body board and sign up for surf lessons if you are a beginner. The beach was amazing. There are nice places to eat within walking distance of the cottage. I can't wait to go back and stay here again.

This house was everything we could have asked for and more! Gabriela and Rick were wonderful kind hosts and the area was very safe. The beach was a short walk and so was Las Olas and Lola's to grab drinks and a bite to eat. We will certainly be going back to visit very soon!

The perfect place.

As a solo traveler I was fortunate to be able to stay here. The house is perfect, has everything you need, it is very secure and Rick, Gabriela and their dog Sharky were wonderful hosts. Very welcoming, knowledgeable and 2 of the kindest people I have met in Costa Rica. The beach is a short walk, and if you need to rent a surfboard it's on the way. Great waves for the beginner to expert. Lots of great places to eat in the area, Cabinas Las Olas, Lola's, Grigorios and Tamarindo is a 30 min drive, if you don't have a vehicle, there is a shuttle to get you there and back. Staying here was the highlight of my trip and I cannot wait to return.

absolutely wonderful stay! perfect hosts, house and location, highly recommend!!

My husband and I stayed here for a week and loved it! The location was fantastic, only a 5-10 minute walk to the beach and on the way you get to see monkeys and iguanas. The beach in Playa Avellanas is perfect for surfing, body boarding, swimming and relaxing. There are great restaurants within close walking distance and a shuttle to Tamarindo if you wish to go there. We didn't have a car and didn't miss it! The house is perfect, we were able to make meals do plenty of relaxing there and slept very well. There is a place to rent surf boards, etc within close walking distance. We cannot wait to go back and highly recommend this place to stay, Rick and Gabriela are amazingly wonderful people, we were very sad to leave.

It is 4 minutes walk to the beach and the blue lagoon and to some of the best surf brakes on the gold coast.
