Athens is a small, safe, friendly community. The house is within walking distance of restaurants, and convenient stores. There is a very nice town park which has been renovated with all kinds of new equipment for kids and work out equipment for adults. There are college level sporting events within walking distance at Concord University. There are four waterfalls within an hours drive and water fun to be had by all, at three different nearby lakes. We always recommend Pipestem State Park because it has so many activities like: horseback riding, zip lining, splash park, lake with paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, and a beach area with inflatables in the water. It also has three golf courses, (a regular 18 hole, a 3 par 9 hole course and putt putt), along with loads of hiking, biking trails, and even ax throwing.
