The Story Behind The Virginia May
In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I sold my home in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and took a leap of faith-I bought the property on Randle Lane sight unseen. It was a risk, no doubt, but what's life without a little adventure? After 31 years of teaching high school English, I was ready to chase a long-held dream: opening a bed and breakfast.

The plan was to welcome guests by Memorial Day weekend 2021. But like many plans during that time, things didn't go as expected. Construction delays and soaring labor costs pushed everything back. I stayed in Canada until the end of June 2021, then made the 2,600-mile journey to Texas, arriving exactly one year after purchase-with plenty of work still ahead.

Undeterred, I rolled up my sleeves. After completing a full renovation on the main house, I turned my focus to the two cottages. Months of planning, dreaming, and determination finally paid off, and by Memorial Day Weekend 2022, The Virginia May was ready to open its doors.

The Guest House and The Baby Guest House are the result of countless sketches, sleepless nights, and deep intention. The Baby Guest House is a brand-new build, and we were able to preserve one wall and the original flooring for The Guest House, from the former structure that once stood where the garden now blooms.

And the name? It honors my mother, Virginia May-a spirited, loving woman who traveled all the way from Canada in the summer of 2022 just to see her name on the sign. She passed away the following spring at the age of 93.

Her legacy, warmth, and strength are woven into every corner of this property.

Located on a peaceful, tree-lined street, the property features two charming cottages-a cozy one-bedroom and a spacious two-bedroom-each thoughtfully designed for comfort and relaxation.

Every morning, a freshly prepared gourmet breakfast is delivered right to your cottage door between 8:45 and 9:00 a.m., setting the perfect tone for your day. You may even catch a glimpse of the local deer as they quietly pass through the property, adding a touch of magic to your stay.
