DOCK SLIPS
We have two new private dock slips on our property, a short walk from the house. A single slip accommodates boats up to approximately 30 feet for $500/week (prorated for longer or shorter stays). Larger boats up to approximately 60 feet can be accommodated by combining both adjacent slips for an additional $250/week.
GOLF CART ACCESS
If you rent a golf cart, we have a short path leading down to the "lower road," aka Queen's Highway, where we have parking. The parking area, which is outside the gated settlement area, provides convenient access to the middle and south end of the island.
NO GOLF CART? NO PROBLEM!
If you’re unable or unwilling to rent a golf cart, rest assured that our location is ideal for getting around by bike or on foot. Three of the main restaurants on the island are within walking distance, and the other three offer shuttle service.
SOLAR POWER
Hope Chest is primarily powered by a modern solar-and-battery system designed to provide quiet, seamless operation for lighting, refrigeration, internet, and most household systems. Air conditioning and the dryer remain connected to the local utility and may be unavailable during island power outages.
ADDITIONAL BOOKING DETAILS
- Requests for stays under seven days will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but the norm during holiday weeks and peak periods is a seven-day minimum.
- Christmas and New Year’s are separate full weeks with mid-holiday changeovers unless otherwise agreed.
- We’re generally unable to accommodate Sunday arrivals unless agreed to in advance. As for Sunday departures, guests will need to manage their own departure logistics.
LONG HISTORY
Hope Chest has been a beloved vacation getaway for five generations of a US family since 1959. The original bungalow-style house was destroyed in Hurricane Dorian in 2019. Many original elements were preserved and are now incorporated in “Hope Chest 2.0.” The new house features modern conveniences and is more than twice the size of its predecessor.
MOBILITY ISSUES
Because Hope Chest sits on one of the island’s highest elevations, guests enjoy constant ocean breezes and panoramic views. However, the walk to and from the house includes hills and stairs that may be challenging for guests with limited mobility.
