Sunny house- walk 200 yards on sandy path to Lewis Bay-pet friendly.

This bright, sunny ranch, about 200 yards from the warm water ocean (Lewis Bay) is dog friendly and the location is fantastic! The ocean is reached by a short walk on one of the few sandy roads left on the Cape. Because of the short sandy road the neighborhood is quiet, and travelled only by people vacationing there and yet the house is central to most of the attractions of the Cape. Located near Hyannis, Sea Gull Beach, Ferries, Restaurants, Shopping, Golf, Summer Theater and more. The house has two bedrooms, 1 with a queen-size bed and electric reclining chair and window air conditioner, the other with two single beds with 3 windows that get breezes from the ocean. Private yard with over-sized patio (18x25) and outdoor shower. Fully equipped kitchen and dining area overlooking patio. Gas grill. The large living area (14 x 22) has two comfortable chairs, plus a sofa with a full pullout bed, and a piano. There's a portable floor air conditioner and fans in that room. Unfortunately the air conditioner there stopped working last summer and as this type air conditioner was sold out-I couldn't get a replacement in time. This year there is a new air conditioner.
There are two televisions with streaming.
The Bay has warm water coming up from the Gulf Stream and is between Great Island and Hyannisport. The sounds of the birds in the morning and the sunsets in the evenings top off a wonderful vacation.

Dog friendly --The sunsets over the water on our beach a 4-5 minute walk away are spectacular.
Last year the floor air conditioner broke down. We have a new one this year.

It was a wonderful time! Check- in was smootand simple, you will have everything you need in the kitchen. There is a charming, beautiful green backyard, gives you the feeling of privacy.I'm given 4 stars.because parking space is not very comfortable.

Great location, but where's the AC?

We had a mixed experience: The good: great location, great backyard, cottage met our needs (almostā€”see below). The bad: Listed as being an air conditioned cottage, but there was only one window unit in one bedroom. The living room AC was broken and the second bedroom had no AC at all. Host said she had already known about this issue but didnā€™t notify us beforehand. It was 82 degrees inside the cottage when we arrived. The host did not do anything to fix the AC situation during our stay and when we requested partial refund she stopped replying to our messages. We and our 4-year old daughter were very uncomfortable for the first few nights of our stay. Additionally, the bedroom floors had not been cleaned prior to our arrival, and the (east-facing!) bedroom window had no curtainsā€”we got up with the sun whether we wanted to or not.

Cute house. Old school cape. Comfortable for a family of 4 (or 5). Close to beach. Beach is great for young children (calm warm water). Host is attentive and reachable.

Totally disappointed.

1) The cleaners showed up at 4 pm when we were checking in. They only spent 20 minutes cleaning. 2) The front and back lawn had high grass. My husband had to borrow a law mower from a neighbor and mow the lawns himself. 3) The living room AC never worked from the start. Only had a few fans. It was a sweat barn all week.

Don't bother with this one

The prior reviews mentioned that the exterior needed some maintenance. Understatement. I can understand overgrown bushes, etc. But the owner needs to give serious attention to the inside. Broken or missing screens meant we had to run the AC, which always sounded like it was on its last legs. The mattresses and sofa need replacing - didn't dare try to figure out which one was the sleep sofa. The particle board in the kitchen cabinets is crumbling. Time to for serious renovations.

LOVED our stay!

We loved our stay at this lovely home on Lewis Bay! The house was large and offered all that we needed. Carmela was a wonderful host and answered all questions right away. Our favorite part was the short walk to an absolutely beautiful beach! There were very few people on the beach even though we were here in August! Swimming was wonderful! The home is located in a very quiet and friendly neighborhood. Beds were comfortable and the home was inviting. We loved being close enough (1 hr 45 mins) to Boston, so we also had a wonderful visit to the city. Perfect central location to mid and lower Cape activities and great restaurants! Thanks so much Carmela for sharing your lovely home with us!

West Yarmouth cottage

We enjoyed our week long stay! The cottage was your basic cape cottage, bedrooms were fine and bathroom and outdoor shower worked fine . The grounds def needed work . Was very overgrown . That didnā€™t affect our stay but it looked nicer in the pictures . It is a very short walk to the beach and itā€™s a very nice neighborhood . Close to shopping and restaurants . Over all a very nice vacation

West Yarmouth Retreat

Location was excellent. Far enough off Rt 28 to be quiet, but still easy access to all stores, etc. Beach was small, but warm water and soft sand made if quite nice. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Also, a nice neighborhood feel to the place, unlike a lot of cottages that we have rented before.

Very close to the beach

My family enjoyed our stay despite suboptimal weather. The biggest advantage of this property is that it is very close to the beach, 5-7 minute walk. There were a lot of beautiful hydrangeas along the way, which added to our enjoyment. The swimming was good too. The house is older but we found everything we needed. Nice backyard. Importantly, Carmela (the owner) was very responsive to our needs/questions.

Wonderful week on the Cape

Had a great time in this cozy cottage. The cottage was clean and comfortable. A very short walk to the local beach which was great for the kids. The dog loved walking to the beach as well. Easy access to restaurants and activities. Definitely would recommend this cottage.

Nice place for a family

Very nice house with everything you need. The beach is in Lewis bay, shallow water equals warm water. Itā€™s also at a short walk distance which makes it easy to go to after a day of visiting even with a 2 years old toddler. The outside shower is a big plus. We had a great time!

Lessons learned from reserviing on line

The house was in a great place and the backyard was very nice. When we went into the house, we encountered a very musty smell which was partly due to the fact that the furniture was very old and it had been closed up. We got the 2 air conditioners and several fans going to cool the interior down. The cleaners had done a very poor job. The floors in the entire house were still sandy. I don't know when the floor had been washed previously, but we had to buy a mop and clean the kitchen floor several times before all the dirt and grime were removed. When we went to make coffee the first morning, we found the grounds from the previous renter still in the pot. The cleaners didn't even check those things out. We were told to bring our linens and towels which is common practice on the Cape, but thank goodness I brought a couple of dishtowels because there were none there. That was not mentioned originally. The furniture was not the same that had been pictured in the listing. It was very old and uncomfortable. The couch could have been vacuumed carefully to get the sand off the cushions. The other thing that surprised me was that there were ant traps around the house. Our dog managed to find one and was chewing on it. I removed one in one of the bedrooms. I understand that some kind of deterrent might be needed, but not something that could hurt a dog (especially since this was a dog friendly rental). I have learned a big lesson. We will only rent through a realtor and after we have been able to see the residence in person. Carmela was very nice and helpful in many ways, but when you try to manage a rental from a long distance it isn't always successful.

Best vacation in a long time!

Located in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the beach, this rental provided me with just the right amount of peace and quiet. It was the best vacation I have had in a very long while. The only negative thing I can say is that when I arrived, it didnā€™t seem like it had been recently cleaned. No worries, I cleaned upon arrival and again before I left. Other than that, the house and the location was just what I needed.

Perfect/quiet location, lovely walk to the beach

The cottage is on a quiet sandy lane close to a nice beach perfect for walks with our pups. Location makes this home a wonderful getaway. Carmela makes the rental process pleasant and easy! Thanks for responding to all my emails so quickly. When we thought there was a fenced yard and found there wasn't on arrival, Carmela offered to provide us with a dog pen to use in the back yard. The AC in the queen bedroom and the living room made the humid nights comfortable as well as plenty of fans throughout.

Love the area, its activities and also because of the warm water for swimming (from the gulf stream). The house is very near the beaches--just a short walk on a sandy path takes you to the water. The sandy path also makes you feel the beach atmosphere when you walk out the door and yet a short distance in the opposite direction takes you to dining, activities for adults and kids and shopping. This is an area great for adults and kids.
