If you enjoy nature, peace, mountains and quiet, this brand new cabin is for you. Beautiful views from the front & back porch nestled in the tall trees. We have seen lots of birds , turkey, chipmunks , deer and on occasion, a black bear . 3 miles to smoke hole canyon. Water tubing, swimming, rock climbing and fishing. Easy access to the Monongahela National Forrest. 12 miles to Petersburg and Franklin. Step back in time and visit Shreves Country Store along the Potomac river. Tourist attractions include Smoke Hole Caverns, Seneca Rocks, Chimney Rocks, Canaan Valley, Spruce Knob. Tubing at big bend on smoke hole rd. Snow shoe ski resort 73 miles. Timberline 60 miles. Take a train ride from Romney to Petersburg in the Potomac Eagle. Enjoy all the local shops located in Petersburg. Book your stay today. 4-wheel drive recommended when snow is on ground.

Beautiful location for a beautiful cabin to truly enjoy nature and its beauty. The kitchen was stocked well that we could make a wonderful breakfast before leaving in the morning and out doing our adventures. Also was lovely coming back there in the evenings after our adventures for the day and just relaxing by the fire pit enjoying a fire and all the wildlife!

Great getaway luxury cabin with bed/bath on each level. Ideal for three couples, or three business people, or three friends, or more! So much space for activities and it’s beautiful.

Beautiful secluded retreat

We visited family in WV and it was the perfect place to stay. Not too far from town (Petersburg), but felt remote and peaceful. It was very clean and had everything we could need. We made two dinners in the well-equipped kitchen. Sylvia was very responsive and helpful with questions.

Stay in Upper Tract

Sylvia’s cabin is incredible. Such a lovely view of the mountains & sunrise. Fantastic interior that was clean & had all the amenities you’d need. Would definitely recommend!

My husband and I are frequent flyers of VRBO, but this couple that owns this home are the sweetest, most kindest and understanding people (now friends) we have ever met. This is by far the best home that we have stayed at, it was so beautiful, quiet, peaceful, it was Heaven on the mountain. It was the first time in West VA and it was so beautiful there, we are now planning to move within this year. Norman and Sylvia are by far the sweetest people ever. You will not be not be sorry. I promise you won’t be sorry that you stayed here. Looking at dates to book again. Go to Smokehole Canyon. This is what you will see.

Beautiful property

If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is the spot. Deep in the woods, at the top of the neighborhood with no traffic. Very clean, communication was great, and so restorative. Fantastic view & very well stocked cabin.

What a great cabin. We stayed with friends and kids and everyone fell in love with the cabin, the location, and the view!!! We did spend a good bit outdoors, arounf the cabin, on the porch, relaxing, kids loved exploring, they found fossils, forged for wood/kindling, rode bikes, went fishing, and visited Triangle Rock (pretty cool). Miss Sylvia was amazing and very accommodating. Loved communicating with her very easy to reach and quick in responding to any and all question and inquiries we had. Overall, we LOVED everything abd had an amazing time! We're hiping we would return soon :).

Best cabin rental so far

The cabin was tucked in the mountains with trees all around. The cabin was so good that we stayed indoors all the 4 days and never felt the need to go outside. Modern amenities but at the same time a rustic decor. Very spacious. Super clean bedding and bathrooms. Highly recommend.

The outside mountain views were amazing. There were deer in the area. The cabin was extremely clean and nice. It was decorated just right and made us feel at home. The kitchen had everything necessary plus extras if needed. The coffee maker was ready as well as a nice grinder. Amenities were numerous and appreciated. The gas fireplace was delightful. The large deck was nice and there was an outdoor fire pit. The property is all to itself with plenty of privacy to enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountain outdoors. There are great hikes nearby, including Seneca Rocks, Chimney Top, and Dolly Sods. Cheetah B's restaurant in Petersburg is great. I would highly recommend this property for a lovely getaway in the mountains. It snowed a bit on the last two days of our stay, which made the views even better. The host was very good and communicated well. I will definitely keep The Rusty Lantern in mind for future West Virginia trips. Excellent

After coming to WV for years we fell in love with the state, my husband would say some day we want to buy a property and build a log cabin, We purchased this 4 acre lot in 2006, on the day our second grandchild was born, we still had 3 sons at home, we built a small bunk house , moved our camper on the property, dug a well , septic and electric installed. We have lots of good memories and great times with our kids and grandkids, now the rest of our kids are married and giving us more wonderful grandkids, in 2020 we started building the cabin, however as much as we loved a log home, we decided to do vinyl siding where exposed to the weather ,wood board & Batton under covered porches , trying to save us maintenance and the bore bees were bad. Our long awaited dream come true, and we would love to share it with you.

Our family spends lots of time here, so it’s very well stocked, and lots to do if you enjoy the outdoors, cabin is big enough to stay indoors and read , play games, puzzles, or watch tv and movies. Very cozy and toasty warm indoors when it’s snowing. Beautiful surroundings, lots of birds deer and even saw a bear once.
