Sobre esta propriedade

Come to The Country. Wake to Hawco’s Pond, swim, fish and paddle from the wharf, watch unforgettable sunsets, or cozy up by the wood fire. A private, year-round escape for families, couples, friends and dogs—just 50 minutes from St. John’s.

Come to The Country. Wake to views across Hawco’s Pond, swim, fish and paddle from the wharf, explore the woods, then slow down together as the sun sets over the water. Set on a private one-acre property just 50 minutes from St. John’s, there’s something here in every season. Snowshoe or ice fish in winter; when the weather turns, come inside to a wood fire, movies, books and late-night board games. Families, couples, friends and dogs come here to make memories—and many return to make more.

The Country is a special place to me, and I want you to have a wonderful time while you're here.

Most guests enjoy a private, self-check-in experience, with everything you need provided before arrival. But private doesn't mean you're on your own. Our Newfoundland Vacation Rentals team is nearby and available throughout your stay, whether you need help with the property, have a question or simply want a recommendation for somewhere to explore.

We'll respect your privacy and let you enjoy The Country at your own pace.

I may not personally be nearby during your stay—sometimes I'm even on the other side of the Atlantic—but The Country is never without local support.

And if there's something you're wondering about, please ask. We want you spending your time enjoying The Country, not trying to figure something out on your own.

About the Neighborhood — Welcome to Cabin Country

The Country is located in Deer Park, a well-established cabin community on Hawco's Pond about 50 minutes from St. John's. Pioneer Line is home to more than 100 properties, so you're not in the middle of nowhere — but mature lots, woods and space between cabins give The Country a wonderful sense of privacy.

The last approximately 5 km of the drive is along a well-graded gravel road, part of the transition from city life to Cabin Country.

Explore Close to Home

You don't have to leave the property to find adventure.

⭐ Explore the upper and lower woods
⭐ Wander the trails and surrounding back country
⭐ Fish, swim or paddle on Hawco's Pond
⭐ Bring bikes and explore the area
⭐ ATVs and dirt bikes are common in Cabin Country
⭐ Kids who like to explore will find plenty of room for adventure - hunting for frogs or fairies.

Summer brings more families and children to Deer Park, and there's a wonderful sense of freedom here: space for kids to explore and space for adults to let them.

Despite the number of cabins around the pond, Hawco's Pond generally has relatively little boat traffic, leaving plenty of room to paddle, fish and enjoy the water.

Supplies & Exploring Further

A convenience store and local diner are approximately 5 km away, while additional groceries, restaurants and services are available within a short drive.

The Country can also be a starting point for exploring more of Newfoundland. Head out for a day along the Irish Loop, explore communities around the Baccalieu Trail, or spend the day adventuring and come back to the pond, the sunset and a fire.

Or don't go anywhere at all.

Some of the best Country days never make it past the end of the driveway.

Guest Access

The Country is yours to enjoy during your stay. You'll have private access to the entire cabin and one-acre property, including the decks, upper and lower woods, outdoor fire and gathering areas, waterfront and wharf. The only exception is the storage shed.

There's plenty of room to spread out, explore the property and bring along bikes and other outdoor gear. You'll also find plenty of parking on site.

Registered guests are welcome to bring a tent and pitch it on the property if someone in the family wants to spend a night under the stars. It's a fun way to add a little camping to the Country experience while still having the cabin close by. Tent use does not increase the property's maximum guest capacity.

The Space

The Country sits on a private one-acre mature treed lot overlooking Hawco’s Pond, just 50 minutes from St. John’s. It’s a place made for time together—with plenty to do outside when the weather cooperates and just as much reason to settle in when it doesn’t.

Inside The Country

The heart of the cabin is the large living area, with plenty of room to gather around the wood-burning fireplace. Settle in with a book, pull out a board game or make it a movie night.

And movies really are part of The Country. There are more than 120 titles—from Casablanca to This Is 40—plus Roku for streaming your own favourites.

The fully equipped kitchen and dining table for six make it easy to cook together, linger over supper or turn the table into board-game headquarters later in the evening.

There are three bedrooms, each with a queen bed. The primary has an ensuite with tub/shower and a library of books. Throughout the cabin you'll also find children's movies, toys, Lego, crafts and games—plenty for a rainy Country day.

Outside — Where The Country Opens Up

Step onto the upper deck and the view opens across Hawco’s Pond—a favourite spot for morning coffee, BBQs and watching the evening sky. In summer, the sun sets directly across the water, and some nights the sunset becomes the evening’s entertainment.

Beyond the deck, The Country deliberately gives way to a more natural Newfoundland landscape. Rather than manicure the entire property, we've allowed spruce, native growth and lower bushes to flourish, adding flowering shrubs over the years. A wooden walkway winds through it toward the open lawn below.

The lawn isn't treated with pesticides and has room for ball or Frisbee. Trees, berry plants and natural growth attract birds and wildlife, including grouse, squirrels and Newfoundland hare—and occasionally a passing moose.

Continue toward the water and you'll reach the lower deck and floating wharf.

This is where Country days happen: picnic by the water, fish, swim, stretch out in the sun or sit with your feet dangling over the edge.

Hawco’s Pond stretches for approximately seven miles, with plenty to explore. A canoe and life jackets are provided, and guests can bring kayaks or other small watercraft that can be carried to the pond.

The water gets deep quickly at the wharf, making it a favourite place for confident swimmers to jump in—and discover just how refreshing Newfoundland pond water can be.

Every Season Has Its Own Country

Some days are about swimming, fishing, paddling, exploring the woods and staying outside until the sun disappears.

Others are about rain against the windows, a wood fire, an old movie, books, Lego, board games and nowhere you particularly need to be.

Winter brings another Country entirely—snowshoeing, sliding, ice fishing and exploring a landscape transformed by snow.

There isn’t one right way to experience The Country. That’s rather the point.

Getting Around

A vehicle is recommended for staying at The Country. The property is approximately 50 minutes from downtown St. John’s and St. John’s International Airport.

The final approximately 5 km is along a well-graded gravel road through Deer Park—part of the transition from the city to Cabin Country.

Once you arrive, there is plenty of parking on the property. Walking and biking are great ways to explore Pioneer Line and the surrounding cabin area, while a vehicle gives you the freedom to head farther afield.

The Country is also well positioned for day trips. Explore the Irish Loop, head toward the communities of the Baccalieu Trail, visit nearby attractions, or stock up and stay put.

Pre-Arrival & Check-In
After booking, we'll ask you to complete our Pre-Arrival Form and review and agree to our rental conditions.

Check-in instructions are sent at 12 PM on the day of arrival.

Hawco's Pond & Canoe

The pond is a wonderful part of The Country experience, but please enjoy it with care.

⭐ The shoreline drops off quickly and has a rocky bottom — water shoes are recommended.

⭐ Life jackets must be worn when using the canoe.

⭐ Weather and wind conditions on Hawco's Pond can change quickly. Please use good judgment and stay off the water when conditions are rough.

⭐ A first-aid kit is located in the upper cupboard of the main bathroom.

Access to the Pond & Wharf:
The cabin sits above Hawco's Pond, giving The Country its beautiful elevated water views. There are two walking routes to the waterfront: the wooden walkway and stairs, or the driveway/road.

AWD or 4WD vehicles may also be driven down to the waterfront.

Guests with mobility concerns should note that the walking routes involve a slope and, on the walkway route, stairs.

Smoking

The cabin is strictly non-smoking.

Smoking is permitted outdoors on the decks. Ashtrays are available under the kitchen sink. Please dispose of cigarette butts carefully and never leave them on the property or surrounding land.

Dogs Welcome

The Country welcomes up to two dogs per stay, with a $60 pet fee. Cats and other pets are not permitted.

Dogs tend to love The Country too. We simply ask that you clean up after your pets and help us keep the property enjoyable for everyone.

Guests & Gatherings

Only registered guests are permitted at the property unless additional visitors have been approved in advance.

Parties and large gatherings are not permitted without prior approval.

Firewood

The wood-burning fireplace is a favourite part of The Country experience, particularly on cool evenings and winter stays.

Firewood can be added for $25 per day. We'll provide a generous supply for the day, typically more than enough to enjoy the fire throughout the evening. Please let us know if you'd like firewood added to your stay.

Additional Guests

For reservations of more than four people, an additional charge of $25 per person, per night applies.

Cancellation Refunds

A 4% processing fee applies to cancellation refunds.
