Historic Cottage, 100 Steps to Dunes, Walk to Restaurants/Shops. Quiet Street.

One of the best locations on Tybee. Private beach access. The south beach is a great place to avoid the crowds. An easy walk to shops, restaurants and the pier. Our renovated 1930 Tybee cottage is one of the few private cottages available to rent on the south end. From our extra lot, it is one hundred steps to the dunes.

It is a two-story home with separate living areas on each level. The home is on a private lane with absolutely no traffic. Small children love playing in the tidal pools on the beaches on this end of the island. Sunsets over Little Tybee from the beach are amazing.

Note: June/July, we accept seven day reservations, arriving and leaving on Saturdays.

Unique for Tybee, the home comes with an extra lot to give kids more room to play. The extra lot also offers plenty of parking for a group getaway to the beach. House layout perfect for families with a family suite, play rooms and plenty of games. The location allows you to park your car and never drive again. Short walk to restaurants or just to get a snow cone.

The home is large enough for several families. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms with queen beds. The 'sun room' is a great place to gather as a group and includes a piano. It also has a twin sofa bed. In addition, there is a dining room off the kitchen, as well as a kitchen eating area with enough room to seat 10 for dinner. A perfect place for everyone to share their day over a great meal.

Downstairs there is a separate bedroom suite with a private bathroom, queen bed and two twin beds. The suite opens up to the back deck. The queen bed is separated from the twin beds with a privacy folding door. Downstairs also includes a play room, a queen size sofa bed with an extra memory foam topping for comfort, foosball game, extra 1/2 bath and laundry room. In addition, there is an outside private shower.

We love to entertain, so there are two decks outside. A large gas grill is also provided. The house also has high-speed internet, wifi and cable.

I am the owner and manage the property. You also won't have the challenges of dealing with a large management company.

Rare gem.

This home has an authentic charm, hard to find in Tybee. It is also much larger than the website conveys. 8 of us fit here comfortably.

Great location!

We really enjoyed Tybee Island! The house was so close to beach access! Nice neighborhood that seemed safe & family friendly. There were definitely quirks with the house, but we knew some of that going in. The host shares a document with lots of helpful info including restaurants & grocery stores, etc. The kitchen had enough cookware, plates, cups, utensils, etc, along with cooking oil & spices. The DR has a great large table! There was seating on the small upper deck, & more options in the backyard. The lawn was a bit long. The bathrooms were small, being an older home. The downstairs shower was small & short, & the slatted door was broken. The upstairs shower is older, & the sink has nowhere to put anything down (even soap). There is some small, shallow wall shelving nearby & some space in a large cabinet over the toilet. We wiped dust/ hair off both before using. The downstairs beds were comfortable for 2 of our group. Oddly, there was a partially open window with an extension cord running outside. The downstairs half bath is through the laundry room. Both were nice to have, though it did seem like more of a "basement" space. The other 2 of our group slept in the interior room upstairs. The bed was soft & comfortable. The upstairs rooms are small, but adequate. Main areas are clean. Some areas needed attention (shelves, nightstands, kitchen drawers, some less common areas, etc). Overall, we enjoyed our stay, the lovely beach, & we had great weather in early April!

We had a great stay for Pirate Festival. If you love old beach cottages you'll love this house. Very convenient to the beach as well and we loved that we could bring our dogs

Excellent communication during hurricane

Owner was very helpful! We were here during a hurricane and he did everything he could to accommodate us even though we toughed it out. Would recommend renting from him to anyone. Location was so close to the beach and with kids this was a huge PLUS!

Lovely Location, needs some TLC

This beautiful old home is in a wonderful location on Tybee. We enjoyed our morning walks to enjoy coffee on the beach and the easy access to our favorite part of the island. The house itself is comfortable! Slept very well and the beds were comfy. The cleanliness of the home on the other hand was quite disappointing. It was clear that the home had not been thoroughly cleaned in quite a while considering the dust under the beds and dressers. The bathrooms were not that impressively clean either. Our son and his family used the bottom floor of the home and had several issues with broken beds and unsafe spindles on the staircase. The handyman lives on the property and did remedy the situation temporarily but works needs to be done to get this home up to par in both cleaniness and safety before I would recommend to anyone. The owner did give a small compensation for the broken bed and the caretaker was very kind on the plus side:))

Had a fabulous time on Tybee Island. Perfect location, super quiet neighborhood, short walk to the beach manageable for most ages. Less than a half mile to downtown shops and food! Lots of beach cottage charm with a little quirkiness. Would definitely stay again.

Perfect short walk to beach

Our group of teens LOVED this property. Plenty of space for the girls upstairs and adults downstairs. We loved the large dining room table--plenty of room for our entire party of eight to sit together comfortably. The property was so well stocked with everything you could need! The best part was the short easy walk to the beach and to shops nearby. We really appreciated all the beach chairs and beach gear at the house so we didn't have to make space in our packing for those bulky items. You really just need to pack your clothing, basic toiletries, and beach towels! Plenty of k-cups, basic condiments in the fridge, Pam for cooking, and all the cooking tools/pans/dishware you could need. Tons of games, books, and the foosball table downstairs! Amazing property!

Family weekend reunion

This beach house was ideal for our family. Our dog enjoyed the fenced in backyard- the beach is just a short walk. The piano was a delightful surprise. Kitchen well appointed- the spacious dining room and extra long table served our family well. Having a separate floor on the ground level gave our niece the privacy and quiet needed for their 3 year old. The caretaker’s cottage is on the property, wonderful couple! And the extra lot for parking cars- Hope to return someday!

The property is beautifully located on a quiet street, only a few steps to the beach. The check in process/host was very easy to work with. There were lots of towels for use which was nice, along with a washer and dryer. The home is older (as noted in the listing) — but slightly cluttered and some of the spaces are a little awkward/cramped. Ultimately the location is great and as stated the host was very good at communicating.

Christmas at Tybee

We had a great stay. The weather was unseasonably warm so we could get out and walk and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. Stargazer, was big enough for everyone to have there own space. I would stay at Stargazer again.

Sisters getaway

This house ( and host) was wonderful. Fully stocked with games, books, and even shampoo, conditioner and body wash! Detailed info from host, and easy walking distance to stores and restaurants, and of course, the beach. The beach was fabulous— no crowds ( October is a great time to visit Tybee).

We loved it!

We were two families vacationing together with children ranging from 2.5 years to 14 years old. There was a total of 10 of us and our two dogs. Our trip was in October, so the island population was down from the holiday rush and everything was so peaceful and beautiful. The beach was super close and the restaurants, gift shops, and arcades were a very short walk, even with 6 kids in tow. The fenced yard was perfect for BBQing and for the dogs. I'm glad we found this gem, Mike the owner was super friendly and helpful with recommendations. We could definitely see ourselves coming back.

Fabulous stay at Star Gazer Cottage

My friend and I brought our dogs for a 4 night stay at Star Gazer Cottage on Tybee Island. The house was perfect… secluded and quiet but within waking distance to everywhere we wanted to go. It’s a perfect set up for us and a secure yard for the dogs! We really enjoyed it!

Location, location, location

Fabulous location at the end of the island. Very short walk to the sand. Celebrated family birthdays, enjoyed beach time and played several rounds of dis golf at the local course. House was as advertised and came well stocked for cooking. Plan to return.

Family vacation

Location was ideal. Close to the beach. Easy walk to stores. Owner communication was good. We rented a golf cart for ease of exploring the island.

This was our home for ten years where we raised our two children. We originally moved to Savannah in 2002 and bought the Tybee house a year later as a second home. Yet, we fell in love with Tybee and sold our Savannah home and moved in full-time early in 2005.

Eleven years ago we tearfully moved to Decatur, GA where I took a new job. Decatur is great, but we miss the stars, sunsets and sounds of the surf. We have two great boys who are now 25 and 21.

I have a health tech start-up and I teach political science at Georgia Tech. My wife is a middle school language arts teacher.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

My wife and I for a number of years would visit Tybee and pull up our beach chairs on the beaches on the Southend to relax and watch the sunset. After the first sunset and cool breezes, we were hooked. When we decided to buy a home on Tybee, I spent months waiting for a home to come available between 18th Terrace and 19th Street.

The Southend is also close enough to the Pier, restaurants and shops to walk, yet far enough where the beach isn't as crowded. Better yet, just walk around the tip to the beaches facing 'Little Tybee' and it will be almost empty.

Also, the main road on Tybee Island ends on the Southend and becomes a narrow two lane road. Therefore, the cars go really slow. Therefore, we didn’t have to worry about my two sons walking down the street or riding their bikes.

Why did we choose this particular house? The location is perfect. Since we are only the 4th house from the ocean you can hear the waves and the surf. It is really nice to have private access to the beach as well. I also like historic houses, so the home still has its original 'bead board' from the 1930s. The extra lot is a big plus. We had plenty of room to park and it gave our two boys enough space to throw a baseball, play football or shoot baskets.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

We love to invite people to our home. For entertaining, we have two decks surrounded by palm trees. We also converted the original porch into a 'sun room'. This room is large and surrounded by windows, so a great spot to share a cocktail with friends. When family visits us, we can put them in a separate suite downstairs. They really like the extra privacy.
