Main Lake Luxury and spectacular panoramic views! Sleeps 8!

Approximately 2200 square feet in this waterfront spacious and private suite - first level of a large house, located in the beautiful Lake Gaston gated community of Harbor Landing where the views are million dollars and the homes are spectacular! Although guests have access to everything listed/pictured in this listing, that does not include the locked portion (upper level) that the owners never rent out upstairs. Upper level is NEVER occupied when this home is rented. Guests will have complete privacy and exclusive access to the property and boat house deck area (not lifts). If you are looking for MAIN LAKE private access with gorgeous sunset views, this house is it! The large primary bedroom features a four poster - king bed as well as a sitting area, desk/vanity, ensuite bathroom and walk in closet. The secondary bedrooms feature queen beds. Both front bedrooms feature remarkable lake front views. The third and fourth rooms have lake views as well but are not lake front rooms. The fourth room doubles as the theater room and has a Smart 85-inch wall-mounted flat-screen TV, a queen sleeper sofa and additional seating. The well-appointed kitchen is bright, open and airy. The living area features leather seating, a flat-screen TV and a full wall of windows that overlook Lake Gaston. In fact, sitting inside the home or out on the terrace, you feel like you are actually at the water's edge! Full size washer and dryer are included as is a portable crib, a Graco pack n' play and two highchairs. Down at the lake, a boat house with docking areas for your boat and/or PWC(s) features a sunning area as well as shaded spots. The kayak is there for your use, but you must provide your own life jackets in compliance with NC boating regulations and your safety. The depth of the water off of the boathouse is about 16 feet deep! A real treasure, that you can easily fit into the tales of your family memories!

About half a mile from the home, there is a neighborhood launch for ease of getting your boat and/or PWC to the boathouse.

Excellent stay

The property is lovely and well stocked (nice sheets and towels, plenty of dishes). Great outdoor spaces and beautiful sunsets! Check in and out and all communications were easy. We would definitely return.

Beautiful Setting!

This place is really beautiful. The house is spacious with a large kitchen and Main bedroom. We went for Thanksgiving and it was just perfect.

Absolutely amazing lake property!

We couldn’t have loved our stay at this gorgeous house any more. The moment that I walked down the walkway from the car to the porch, I got actual goosebumps when I saw the panoramic view of the lake. From then on, we spent every moment outside that we possibly could. When we weren’t boating, we floated on the lily pad, used the kayak, and jumped off the dock countless times. We ate meals either on the porch or out on the top deck of the dock. We loved using the fire pit on the porch and grilling a couple of our dinners. We even sat on the porch during a complete downpour and were able to watch the storm roll in and out. Communicating with Marianne was easy and pleasant. We will definitely stay here again if we are able to come back to Lake Gaston next year!

We took our grands. They are tweens. Had a relaxing stay. Watched movies, sunsets, grilled, and built fires in the fire pit. Had s’mores by the fire after dinner. It was a clear night and magical.

Amazing Lake Experience

What an amazing property to stay at with equally amazing views! Marianne was wonderful to work with and everything from the cleanliness to the location was top notch! Highly recommend - the space of the downstairs is so nice that you don't even realize you have only the bottom of a house.

Amazing vacation

We've stayed here a few times...it's amazing! They have done some updates and upgrades. The new rooftop deck on the the boat dock is perfect for evenings. The kids loved jumping off it as well. It's beautiful inside and out with great views of the lake and sunsets. We love staying here during the summer!

Amazing View

Beautiful home with an amazing porch and dock. Large, well-stocked kitchen was perfect for cooking in. Comfortable bedrooms and plenty of lounging space. Definitely off the grid - so be sure to bring anything you may need. Suggest bringing along some beach chairs for the dock if you want to spend time down there. We had a great weekend and would definitely go back!

That said, I wish that you had mentioned something to me on the phone when I spoke with you to address your questions after your arrival at Heron House. Although some things are out of our control (neighbors) we would have liked to have tried to address your concerns while you were still there and been given the chance to receive a more positive review. Exceptional location and absolutely beautiful views of the lake. Spent our 20th Anniversary away from the 'real world' and escaped to this wonderful place. Marianne even surprised us with a nice bottle of wine to celebrate our 20th; something we have never experienced anywhere else. It's those little touches that make it special. Even though it was December we spent a little time on the boat dock just soaking up the place, and in the evenings totally enjoying the theater room with surround sound. Of course the views of the lake drinking our coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening there are no words to describe that beauty. Very nice layout, furnishings, and it is stocked well for anyone's needs. We will definitely be back.

Bait & switch but lovely

We arrived at the residence to find we were staying in the basement apartment not the entire home. Though it was done very nicely, that fact was never mentioned in the ad. The kitchen was well equipped and had some things left from other peoples stays, in both the cupboards and fridge. The exterior of the basement entrance was covered in spider webs with I wasn't thrilled with. The sheets in the master were the roughest sheers I have ever slept on. I ended up sleeping on top of the comforter. The lake itself was delightful. We were surrounded by other cottages that provided inflatable floating trampolines and such so it was a bummer not having any "toys" for our rental. The price was good and my family had a wonderful time. The house was clean and had plenty of TV's. P.S. We found a joint in a drawer when looking for pen and paper. Better do a better job cleaning out the place between renters!

The property is accurately represented in the description, as well as in the pictures. In fact, several past reviewers have mentioned that the pictures do not do the property justice. As with all reviews, we make changes where possible, and thus, have replaced the sheets in the master bedroom. Amazing home, amazing booking experience

Last fall, I was in charge of booking a lake trip for 5 ladies. It was meant to be a "get away." I wanted a nice home in a great location, with full sun on the dock and great scenery. This was my first time using VRBO, and i did research on a handful of homes until I found this one. It looked perfect by the pictures. I emailed Marianne, and from the start she was so pleasant to work with, so amazingly accommodating and such a wonderful host. You could tell she truly wanted us to have a great time. I am not usually one to write reviews, but this experience certainly merits one. The home is in a gated community, and the drive up to the house is gorgeous. When you pull in the driveway and walk down the steps on the side of the home to get to the back door and dock...breathtaking. Inside the home is high quality, very tasteful decor, comfortable couches and beds, and plenty of room. Everything is very well kept and truly feels like a luxury vacation. The dock gets full sun, which was important to us as we were hoping to catch a tan. The water off the dock is deep, and we were able to run and jump right in. The neighbors to the right of the house were out and very friendly, and didn't mind that we had Kenny Chesney playing until sundown. I will definitely be booking with Marianne again next summer!! HIGHLY recommended!

Falsely Advertised!

While the view was gorgeous, we were misled as to what we were renting. 1- It was advertised that we were renting the Heron HOUSE. My guests and I were stunned to arrive to find out we were actually renting the BASEMENT of the house only. That is an absolute misrepresentation and it should have been described that way. Why would we spend over $1800 to be relegated to a basement when we could have easily rented an entire house for less? To add insult to injury, we had to access the property through the back door. Way too many reasons why that is not only inconvenient but insensitive. 2 - We purposely researched properties that included some kind of lake equipment to minimize costs. This house advertised a tandem kayak for our use. We arrived only to find that there wasn't one. I emailed the owner who suddenly remembered that it had been stolen. Again, false advertisement! She knew that it wasn't available. While the owner did credit us $75 for the omission, that was a mere fraction of the cost that we then had to expend to rent something to enjoy the lake. 3- While the "basement" was relatively clean, (we did find a nail clipper wedged between the coach and clippings on the floor) the outside of the property is BADLY in need of maintenance. The outdoor chairs were worn and absolutely filthy, some we didn't even want to sit on. In order to enjoy the view, we had to sit out there with literally hundreds of spider nests wedged in the bottom of the deck above us just waiting to hatch. There were cobwebs EVERYWHERE! We had to buy bug spray to spray the area just to sit there. The deck (which is all we had access to) and the entire house are badly in need of a power wash. Lastly, while I can't prove this is the fault of the owner, my guests and I came home with bites all over us that closely resemble bed bugs. All in all, I will not rent this property again. In the future, I will know to make sure to confirm that I am renting an actual house as advertised. The lake is beautiful and there are many gorgeous HOUSES to rent. It's crazy to be relegated to a basement for that price.

The property is listed as a guest house and the first sentence states that it is an accessory suite. I am sorry, Sherry, that you did not notice that. The kayak was stolen, and I had only found out about it hours before you checked in. The kayak has since been replaced. Regarding the remainder of your review, I will only post, as a response, the review received from the VERY NEXT guest who checked in (on Sept 1st). That review (by Erin) can be viewed on the well known bed n' breakfast site. "We loved staying here! A beautiful home and the pictures do not do it justice. Great Lake access and Marianne provide great local tips as well".

We are a family of 4 who cherish our times at Lake Gaston. Something about being on the water all day really bonds the family, and creates lasting memories. To us, grilling and watching the sun set at the end of a lake day is a treasured family tradition.

We purchased the land in 2000 and built the house in 2004, but didn't finish the lower level until 2014. We have loved sharing the lake house with others, and receiving pictures of fish they've caught, sunsets they have been witness to and treasured family gatherings.

Heron House features an intimate space for smaller friend/family gatherings and allows guests to have the "main lake" experience, without the McMansion main lake pricing, and weekly minimum requirements, while maintaining a luxurious, fun-filled, and relaxing atmosphere.
