In Spite of Ourselves is a wonderful Edisto Island home with deep water access on Fishing Creek - a lovely spot for you and your family to enjoy. Updated in the winter of 2019, the home is beaming with joyful sunlight, reminding you that you're surrounded by beauty and peace that can only be found in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.

Whether you enjoy boating, birdwatching, crabbing, fishing, kayaking, or just a spectacular view of Edisto's beauty, the vantage points from the expansive, wrap-around, covered deck and covered pier head on the private dock are nothing short of awe-inspiring. If boating is on your vacation agenda, take advantage of the private boat landing just steps from the house. Bring your fishing poles and crab traps and cook your day’s catch on the ground-level patio while taking in scenes of the salt marsh that many species of birds and wildlife call home. This home is also perfectly situated just over a mile from the sandy beach for those who want to take in the glorious southern sun. Don’t forget your cameras and reignite your love of the outdoors - all you need is waiting for you.

The lot location, dock and private boat ramp are amazing! The house is dated but you quickly overlook it because you spend most of your time outside on the large porches with rocking chairs or on the convenient dock. Some folks might not expect the rotten egg smell of shower water and kitchen sink faucet water. This is typical in the area from high level of sulfer in water.

Creek Family Fun

This is the best place to enjoy nature relax and connect with the family - we loved riding the creeks and dolphin watching - this house gives a different twist on a beach vacation - We did visit the beach too - it was a quick ride to any beach access. Edisto has great accesses that all have a great shoreline 😊

Great get away

Well weather did not cooperate but beautiful setting, took some great pictures with my new camera! Kitchen was stocked wonderfully! Upstairs great for kids but a little warm at times. Will definitely stay again! Maybe fish will bite then!

Great Location

If you like marsh living this is an ideal location. Great fishing, crabbing and birdwatching. Will definitely rent again.

Beautiful Home!

We loved our stay! The privacy, shade and view from the home is wonderful. The private dock and boat ramp was what peeked our interest and was so convenient for our guys that love to fish. The house was very clean and updated. The kitchen had lots of cookware and utensils. We did have to drive to the beach but it was not far and we didn’t find it to be inconvenient. The only reason I did not give this review 5 stars was because the upstairs room was quite warm. Even with a mini ac and fan it was particularly warm during the day. The ac air was not cold so the room stayed warm. Night time was tolerable. We liked that the upstairs had several beds. It was good for the teenagers. We look forward to our next visit!

Teaching the grands

Wonderful place to take the grands and educate them about marine life. However it needs a window air conditioning unit upstairs, entirely too hot.

Perfect Setting

If you enjoy nature, you will love the view of the back water and all the birds! Very relaxing to sit on the porch and enjoy the breeze and watch the fishing. Very peaceful!

Fishing in December

Thanksgiving break

Just the way the pictures looked. Absolutely breathtaking! So peaceful and quiet. House was very comfortable but the property was perfect. Fished, crabbed, went on a boat ride and sat by the fire. Look forward to renting it again.

Only complaint would be the water is quite salty out of the tap, maybe a filtration system is needed. The stove could use updating. Other than that, we always enjoy staying here.

This was one of the best trips we ever had.The only thing was the water in the house had that sulfur smell , but we brought water to brush your teeth and to make coffee with. Like I said we had a awesome time and will come back next year.

A beautiful view onto the marsh

It's secluded on the edge of the marsh, nestled in the woods, yet located in an easy to access small development. Great house! And fabulous porch!

Beautiful view

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location is great for my family and there have been upgrades (new flooring, the addition of some dishes) since last year. However the master bedroom could really use a new mattress and the living room furniture has seen better days. There was no DVD player this year. The cleaning was questionable this year. There was a dirty diaper left under a bed, trash left upstairs, a pair of dirty socks left by the bed. It was not typical of Atwood. We have stayed at this property for the last 6 years and love the beautiful views and the seclusion.

Family time at the "Hog

The only recommendation I can pass on is, the limbs on the back porch side facing that wonderful sunset need to be trimmed so you can have a CLEAR VIEW of the sunset! It is truly a small piece of Heaven on Edisto!
