Jefferson Island Garden Cottage King Bed + Complimentary Garden Tour

Sleep on the grounds of Rip Van Winkle Gardens on Jefferson Island—not down the road. Cook’s Cottage (1925) is a private, wheelchair-accessible cottage inside the gardens on Lake Peigneur in New Iberia, Louisiana.
This stay includes a complimentary tour of the Joseph Jefferson mansion and garden admission, a stocked continental breakfast for two, and a bottle of wine. After the gardens close, you can walk the estate and watch sunset on the lake. Peacocks use the lawn. Café Jefferson and the gift shop are a short walk (confirm hours before you count on dinner).
The cottage

Built in 1925 for the cook who fed Jefferson Island Salt Mine crews working 1,300 feet below the island. Entire cottage, not a hotel room off-site.

Location

5505 Rip Van Winkle Road, New Iberia, LA 70560, on Lake Peigneur. About 8 miles from downtown New Iberia. Avery Island (Tabasco factory and Jungle Gardens) is about 15–20 minutes. Shadows-on-the-Teche and Conrad Rice Mill are an easy drive. Lafayette is about 35–40 minutes. A car is required.
Rip’s Rookery is on the estate (herons, egrets, roseate spoonbills). Stay back from ponds and wildlife.
Pets and rules

Pets allowed (confirm current pet fee and restrictions when you book; do not leave pets alone in the cottage). Smoke-free indoors; porch for smokers. Check-in after 3:00 p.m. Checkout before 11:00 a.m. Maximum 3 guests. Carbon monoxide and smoke alarms on site.
