Redwood Butterfly Home Riverfront Seasonal River Access

Our riverfront getaway is completely updated so you can conference on hi speed WIFI then walk to the deck and watch osprey fishing in the river. The full kitchen has new stainless steel appliances including dishwasher, microwave, washer & dryer. Cooks will find the kitchen lacking for nothing. The handicapped access bathroom has extra large shower with built in chair. Our 2 bedrooms each have queen bed, perfect for 2 couples or a family with children. There is a fold down sofa in the living room which sleeps 2 small people, or 1 big person. The large deck overlooks the river with a gas grill for entertaining and dining alfresco for 6. We have an outdoor firepit with seating for 6. The house comes with parking for 4 cars. We install a seasonal river access of stairs every May - October. It is shared with the cabin west of us and located behind their home. The water between our place and the island is usually very shallow in the summer, but the river channel on the other side has water and a sandy beach year round. Perfect for kids to play in! Be sure to bring your water shoes, the beach is rocky. We provide life vests, sun umbrellas, camping chairs and float toys. We have comcast xfinity WIFI internet service in the cabin along with a smart TV, DVD player, WII consul + Games. Everything you need for a fun river vacation!

Great river front cabin

Loved the location on the river. We enjoyed kayaking and playing on the little beach and in the little “lagoon”. Close to Guerneville to grab some dinner, ice cream or play some mini golf. Our whole family had fun!

Our stay

We were very pleased with the house. It was very comfortable! Everything we needed was there. We hope to come again when we can. Someday we hope to get smarter than a smart tv. LOL We wanted to watch the Warriors playoff game and when travelling, to do that I guess one just has to subscribe to some costly sports channel. So we went to the Stumptown Brewery in Guernville which was a great place! And 2 days of golf at Northwood. It was a great trip. Thank you hosts!

Quiet weekend.

Nice quiet cabin on the river. Spent a birthday weekend exploring and relaxing in the river area. Quiet, clean and well stocked. Will definitely reserve again.

Ok for price

A bit run down on furniture, bedding, mattresses and kitchen utensils. Just had salt, pepper and coffee, vegetable oil. No basics including any plastic bags, tin foil etc.

Surrounded by Redwoods

We stayed for 4 nights in mid-September. It's a perfect location to get to the coast to kayak or more into wine country. Beautiful location, the house is surrounded by the tallest redwoods, and their Large back Deck overlooks the river, and the fog rolling in off the mountains in the morning is so calming and to be able to see the stars at night. The house itself is well-appointed and the living room was cozy. It has a nice open layout. While the house feels very private, there are no window coverings in the main kitchen/living room area, I was a bit freaked out because I watch too many horror films, :). But it was fine. just FYI The house itself is on a shallower part of the river if that matters to someone. One other thing of note is the wooden stairs down to the river/canoe. Be careful, not the best. We were able to use their outdoor outlet to charge our car. which is also one of the main reasons we chose this home.

First time in Monte Rio

The cottage was delightful! Very clean and well stocked with cooking supplies. The beds were comfortable. Instructions for using the property well layed out and clear. Loved the area and would definately return to this Redwood Butterfly retreat! Only downside was the river was very low and the beach had toxic algae warnings, so water play was sadly not part of the experience.

Great stay!

We had a great time here in July. The place is surrounded by redwood trees, beautiful and peaceful. The neighborhood is very quiet. Very easy water access for us and our dog. The house is super clean, has everything we need, and even has washer & dryer, which is a huge plus. We would love to stay here again!

Serene beautiful family getaway

Quiet space under the redwoods backs up to the Russian River. The house was perfect for our family of 5 (3 young kids 2 adults) Large bathroom with a spacious shower, comfortable beds, laundry. The house backs up to the river and it is just a short walk down to the water and a beautiful secret garden of black berries, mint, yellow flowers, bees, frogs, deer and quail then a wonderful Rocky beach with 2-4ft water at the end of summer perfect for young kids to splash and play. We had the most wonderful time great memories forever!

Perfection on the River

We stayed three nights as a party of three adults and three kids between the ages of 6 and 9. The adults slept in the cozy bedrooms and there was plenty of couch space for the three kids in the living room in sleeping bags. The whole house is beautifully updated and sparkling clean, and the kitchen was perfect for preparing meals. We enjoyed eating on the balcony and playing board games in the living room when we weren’t relaxing at the river or paddling around in the canoe. The river floats and other amenities provided were icing on the cake. Everyone had an amazing time, the kids never once missed their iPads, and we will 100% be back! Thank you for sharing your beautiful retreat with us.

This place is Peaceful & Relaxing. Balcony is an excellent spot for morning meditation & prayers.

Our lil family of 3 (2 adults+10yr boy+dog) absolutely enjoyed staying here. Our son enjoyed at night playing on his Oculus using the Internet. And as a family, we did a short 5 min walk across the island to get to the deeper waters and had fun playing in the river! Afterwards, it was really nice to have a hot shower, wash our clothes/dry, eat dinner on the table with the fireplace going and end the evening with a nice glass of wine, relaxing on the balcony or just watching TV. Would like to mention just 2 precautions: #1 about the stairs leading down to the river, it is VERY VERY STEEP, so please hold on tight to the railing as you make your way down SLOWLY. #2 The outdoors fire pit has too much vegetation growing around it and some were dried up vegetation. We did not feel comfortable starting a fire in the ground level fire pit as it is not deep at all even though there is a garden hose at reach but that's just us (novice).

Great river house

We had a lovely time at the redwood butterfly. It has everything you need to enjoy the river and have peace and quiet. Very clean and the host Sally had great communication. Would stay here again.

Good Experience

Accommodations were very comfortable with modern kitchen, bathrooms, nice beds and TV with huge cable selections. Loss of 1 star for vegetation debris all along path to front door and rear deck. Also, treacherous footing/incline to reach stairs for access to river. Not safe for those with leg issues. Would stay, again, when in Monte Rio next time.

Beautiful place

Beautiful house right on the river. The location was ideal and the deck was amazing. Fantastic little market a short walk away had everything we needed. Not 100% wheelchair accessible but we had brought some ramps and were able to make it work for our short stay.

River house

House overlooking the Russian River, which runs past the back yard. Everything is as described. Dog friendly; although the back yard isn't fenced, there's a steep hill up to the street, so we could let the dogs off leash down there. The street is a little busy and has no sidewalk, though there are enough pedestrians that drivers know to watch for them.

The family has owned this cabin since 1964, we gave it a complete makeover in 2013.

Jim Melville won at Keno in 1964. He bought this double lot on the river & built the cabin with the winnings. It was completely remodeled in 2013 to update it. We kept the fireplace & refinished as much mid-century furniture as we could to match the 'Groovy' butterfly roof. We all agree with Jim that this area is as peaceful & groovy as it gets
