'Far and Away' - Beachfront in Madequecham


'Far and Away' is a perfect upside down home on the beach down Madequecham Valley Road. It's just far enough from town to feel truly secluded but close enough that you're never more than 20 minutes from dinner, shopping or a bike ride in town. Expansive back lawn can accommodate a tent for the perfect beach wedding or large event (must be pre-arranged and additional fees apply)

The home features a large second floor great room with large deck and amazing ocean views for memorable family gatherings ! There are three en-suite bedrooms plus two additional bedrooms to accommodate up to 11 guests.

**Dogs are welcome for an additional $250 fee

*** This home is available for 7 day/weekly (Saturday to Saturday) rentals only for the last two weeks in June-through mid September. Early June, September and October, there is minimum four night stay. Offseason rates are lower and there is a three night minimum.

We had an amazing week at Far and Away. The description and pictures are spot on and the location is amazing, we look forward to coming back! My husband and I, and 3 kids (ages 6, 7, 10) and dog were very comfortable with a bedroom to spare. Functionally this is a 5 bedroom house. We were at the house for the week hurricane Erin struck and we had front row seats to view the crashing waves and hardcore surfers just down the beach surfing the largest waves of the island. On the days prior to the storm the beach was great for our family- with manageable fun waves and endless opportunities for beach walks. The beach is effectively private with only the surrounding houses using the steps down- it was only 2 other families there with us. It is out of the way of the rush of tourists and close enough to access the restaurants and town in about 15 minutes during high season. The place was clean and had all the amenities for a comfortable family stay. Our dog was in heaven as well as there were no roads nearby and she could be off leash the entire time, both in the property and at the beach. Highly recommended, we will be back! Also, the owner was really wonderful to deal with- responsive and accommodating- we got stuck an extra day and she quickly was able to extend our stay by a day when our ferry was cancelled due to the storm. Thank you!

This was our second time staying at Far and Away. We are a group of old friends and came back to stay this time with our kids and babies. What a dream this property is. It was renovated since we last stayed. Lots of space for 5 couples/families. Well stocked. Lots of toys for the kids and beach gear. Right on the beach – fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. Watch the planes come in and land. It's a trip to get out there, but that's part of the fun and magic of the island. Can't wait to come back again. Thank you, Kathleen!

Amazing place!

We had such a great experience staying here! Kathleen was the absolute best host, so friendly and responsive. I felt like I was messaging her nonstop with random questions, and she never missed a beat. Super accommodating and just genuinely kind.The house was in a beautiful spot peaceful, with ocean views and just steps from the water. You really can’t go wrong anywhere on the island, but this area felt especially calm and magical.Downtown and the harbor area were only about a 15–20 minute drive, and it didn’t feel far at all. We were able to explore, shop, grab food, and then come back to our little quiet escape by the ocean. It was the perfect mix.Already dreaming of our next trip back!

Family vacation

Wonderful beach house….beautiful beach. The view of the ocean from the deck was fabulous. The house was in need of some repairs….nothing major….just basic wear-and-tear. The airplanes fly overhead and the road to access the house is a bit nerve-wracking, but all in all a great place for a family vacation.

Perfect for our family!

We love to come to Nantucket and have been coming for many many years but have never stayed in this part of the island and it did NOT disappoint! The house was perfect for our family, the surf and swimming was just what we were looking for as well. We also love to play games outside and the area around the house was ideal. Being closer to the airport was new as well but it was fun and entertaining. We hope to come back next year!

Lovely Comfortable Beach Home

Exactly as described. Amazing ocean views on a surf side beach. It is a long drive on an unpaved road. If you plan to spend time on other parts of the island it is a journey going back-and-forth. Otherwise a great house and a wonderful spot.

Great home for a family who loves the beach

We were a three generation family who enjoyed ourselves at the house. The house had lots of rooms, porches and beach toys to enjoy. We especially enjoyed the nearby beach where the children searched for shells, learned to body surf on boogey boards, build sand castles, and even see a seal.

Stunning views

Wonderful stay with my family and two dogs. We loved the ocean views from every room and brief walk down steep stairs to the beach. The beach was empty, beautiful and we even saw a sleeping seal on the sand. The dirt road to the home is over 2 miles and a bit bumpy but added to the charm. The house is near the airport but in a more undeveloped and rural area . The home itself was casual and comfortable, nicely stocked and as advertised. We are looking forward to our return.

Perfect Oceanfront Relaxation

My whole family -- from my 6 year old son to my 80 year old mother -- loved our time in this beautiful house! It was very well stocked with everything we needed in the kitchen, towels, beach toys, and everything else we needed. It was a pleasure to communicate with Kathy when needed, although we didn't really need to reach out to her much as we didn't have any issues. A wonderful experience all around!

Peaceful Retreat!

Our family of 7 adults (and 3 month old baby) just returned from a wonderful week at Far and Away. We could not have stayed in a more perfect home for our family. The house was very well-stocked and we had everything we needed- it is so beachy and comfortable. We could not think of one single thing that could be improved upon! We spent lots of time on the spectacular deck with panoramic views, and walked back and forth to the beach countless times. The yard is great for games as well. We were so happy at the house that we hardly left except for 1 or 2 excursions. We loved the isolated location, and the long dirt road leading to the house made us feel like we were really away from it all! The dirt roads around the house are perfect for long runs or walks. Thank you, Kathleen for sharing your home with us. Absolute perfection, we know we want to come back!

Madequecham perfection

Just off a spectacular week at Far & Away. Madequecham has been my favorite Nantucket beach for 30 years, so to be just steps from it is simply perfection. We had two couples and two labs in our party, and plenty of room whether gathering or doing our own thing. We hosted nine adults for dinner during three nights of our stay and brought in private chefs. Again, plenty of room indoors and on the deck for casual grazing and seated dining. One of those nights included an acoustic guitarist at sunset... I think the neighbors enjoyed it as much as we did. The home has everything you need and more, and the owners are a pleasure, super responsive. We will definitely rent again next year (perhaps for two weeks next time) if we don't buy a house like this for ourselves in the area before then. Highly recommended.

Our favorite location

This property is beautiful, the location was perfect - just yards from the beach. The house was clean and well appointed, and the yard was large and flat - great for yard games. Thanks for a great stay!

Family vacation

Our second year enjoying this home. Amazing beach house to enjoy an escape 100 yards from the beach. Can not say enough positive about the experience with the home. Updated kitchen, bathrooms, etc. Perfect spot for Nantucket.

Far & Away is a slice of heaven

Little bit of a catch-22 here. As much as my family loved our time at Far & Away, I fear that if I write too glowing of a review, the traffic at this amazing spot may pick up, and box us out from future vacations. Nevertheless, this place was perfect. We came in early September - the best time to visit Nantucket when the water is still warm, the seals are abundant, and most of the summer tourists have gone. You can still have a perfect beach day and get a reservation at any place in town. There's a 5-10 minute drive to Far & Away on a bumpy, sandy road, and we had a newborn, so we had to hold her in our arms as we drove. That was the only negative. Even the drive was wonderful at times though: we saw deer every night and the views are amazing. The house is <100 feet from the southern edge of the island, connected to the house by a grassy path. The pictures don't do the view justice. We must have walked up/down the path 100x across our 3 days here, just relaxing, going to/from the beach at our leisure. Very few boats pass by this part of the island, and on both of our days, only 1-2 people were in sight on the miles of beach. You look out onto a vast expanse of ocean that stretches to the Bahamas. Nantucket is the most incredible vacation destination on earth - the island is magical and you could spend days exploring different parts of it - but you won't want to leave this home. The inside is comfortable, breezy, and well-stocked; outside there is a huge lawn, amazing views, and anything/everything you could ever need for a fun, family vacation. Surf boards, boogie boards, beach toys, outdoor shower. Our children and dogs were completely free to explore the beach, the waves, the porch, the yard...they were in heaven. We can't wait to return.

Beautiful and Secluded House

This house is great for a moderate to large group looking for privacy with an absolute joyous view. The Kitchen and Deck on the second floor look over a beautiful/large lawn great for games and just a short walk beyond that is the beach.
