We really enjoyed our stay. The building feels secure and safe. The beach is rocky but it's right there. Pool area was clean and not crowded. The unit could use a little updating, but it is clean, very well stocked with extra linens, beach equipment, excellent kitchen equipment. Was surprised not to have salt and pepper supplied. Guess we've been spoiled with some basic spices and oil in most units we've rented! Beds were comfortable. Enjoyed sitting on lanai in mornings. Great location near shopping and restaurants. Check in is late afternoon, and the property rental office closes shortly after. There is an emergency number for after hours. We checked in and couldn't get TV to work. Finally had decided to go buy new batteries in case that was the problem, but when we opened the remote to check it, it was extremely corroded. Called the office as they were closing to let them know our situation and that we might need a new one the next day. They were very helpful and told us we didn't need to replace the batteries ourselves and they dropped off a new remote for us on their way home. That was the only issue we had to call about and it went well. I would recommend. Some friends were there at the same time and they stayed in a smaller unit that had been updated beautifully. Ours was more basic, but it also had two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which we really wanted. The living room furniture is attractive, but not very comfortable.

Great location

I would give 4.5 stars if I could. I go to Maui every year and usually stay in Kaanapali. I tried this side this time because I have 3 kids now and wanted to try something different. The condo is in a great location. Loved being able to try different coffee shops and food all within a 2-10 minute drive. There were limitless options. It was also close to the airport. The condo itself was clean and had good AC. Perfect view for morning coffee and evening sunsets. Only downfall was the beaches werenā€™t great. Too rocky and no sand. There were better beaches a couple miles down the road. Overall great place

Great condo

We really enjoyed our stay in the condo, it had everything we needed for our stay and more. The view from the balcony is great and we loved listening to all the bird song in the morning and the sound of the ocean in the evening. The pool and hot tub area were great too. Good location and very quiet .

Relaxing Stay

We stayed in this unit for one week and it was exactly as posted. It is a little outdated, but it was clean, well-stocked and a beautiful property. You cannot beat the view and location. We enjoyed the deck for our morning coffee and it was perfect for watching the sunset. Our kids enjoyed lounging around the pool. It was about a 10-15 minute drive to Kamole Beach Park III which has amazing snorkeling. It is a 5-minute drive to Azeka Shopping Centre, which has groceries and restaurants. The food truck market was also close. There were beach chairs and mats included and one full snorkel set.

Another perfect stay at Kauhale Makai

About Kihei: If visiting Maui, Kihei is the smart choice since it is centrally located. Kihei is only 20 minutes from the airport versus 40 minutes for West Maui and Wailea. When touring Road to Hana or Haleakala you get a 20 minute jump on everyone else. From Kihei we were able to reach the far end of West Maui in 45 minutes. The smart choice if you stay in Kihei is the Kauhale Makai (Village By The Sea). About Kauhale Makai: Kauhale Makai has been our choice of vacation rental for all three of our trips to Maui so far, and our latest stay here confirms that we will continue to choose this property for future stays. The property is well maintained with lots of amenities. There are more birds here in the morning than there are at the nearby bird sanctuary! About this suite: This trip, we brought our 2 adult children with us to share in the splendor of Maui, and this suite was perfect. We saved money on meals by using the well-supplied kitchen to cook at home. The suite was clean and comfortable. Our experience with this suite confirms our overall positive experience in staying at Kauhale Makai!

Nice Kihei stay

Nice condo right on the beach. Ocean view from every room with 2 balconies. Located central to explore the whole island. Pool and hottub to relax at the end of day. Will come again!

Great location!

My husband and our two kids (ages 10+12) stayed before Christmas 2023. We arrived very late at night and, gratefully, the check-in was smooth. Even though the kitchen supplies were a little mismatched, the kitchen had everything we needed (except a cutting board, couldnā€™t find one of those!). The kids loved the pool area and there was always a lot of parking available. Weā€™ve been on several holidays with vacation rentals and agreed that the beds here were among the most comfortable. It was a great place to start our Maui adventures each day then perfect to come back to the pool together in the evening.

Beautiful full ocean view

Adequate. Fine place to hang your hat while not out touring the island! Beautifull full ocean view! Accomodations could certainly stand upgrading. Couch was broken down. Sat in a hole on one end. Property mgr was most helpful with late checkout & rectifying inadvertant lockout issue. Also quickly responded to air conditioner failure but couldn't resolve the issue during our stay. Complex quite lovely. Didn't use pool or spa though.

Needs painting, better cleaning. Furniture and carpet are dirty. Glider rocker is broken and stained as are outside cushions. Room not clean properly. You can see where peopleā€™s dirty hands opened doors etc - not clean. Property manager called after I emailed but wanted to send someone to clean carpet and fix rocker while we were there. Unacceptable. These things should have been done before we even were rented to. The entire place needs painting. And there was an ant issue. Seemed that ants were coming up from kitchen sink and crawling all over counters. I didnā€™t even call manager back because I felt I would get same response. I didnā€™t come here on vacation to have to sit and wait to have things repaired/addressed. I do understand things happen sometimes during your stay but these things should all have been taken care of ahead of time. If property manager is on top of things. It is an older place but could be really nice if up kept. The view is beautiful.

Amazing unit and location.

We loved staying here. The location makes it super easy to tour all over south Maui. We only used ā€œourā€ beach out front for sunrise and sunset walks but the location was perfect for those. And the views from the lanai were ideal. Loves it alll. Thank you for the stay.

Greatly exceeded expectations

We could not be more pleased! Everything was as advertised or better. We didnā€™t realize when we booked that the unit actually had two bathrooms, and had a pull out sofa, so our teenagers had tons of space and didnā€™t have to share a room. The kitchen came with everything we needed and more. Coffee pot, blender, ice trays, cutting boards, etc. it was not mentioned in the listing, but the closets were stocked with all kinds of beach and water gear, even four beach chairs and snorkeling equipment. Plus an umbrella, beach towels, even some sunscreen and aloe! Maybe not all units are stocked this way so probably hard to guarantee, but ours had everything and made beach days easy. View was wonderful, location was great. We would book again in a heartbeat! Thank you for a great vacation! Mahalo!

Great views

Excellent beachfront location in a quieter section of Kihei. Wonderful views of the Ocean, mountains and sunset. The beach is narrow and not great for swimming, but fine for getting your feet wet. The unit was clean, comfortably furnished and the kitchen well equipped. No laundry in the unit, but coin operated laundry available in the building. Pool was quite small. Many bbq grills were available in the pool area. Will definitely recommend this place.
