Scrabble House Compound - is a land mark Taos vacation rental home rental - offering a great dining / kitchen open floor plan. This room boasts a 10 foot long copper clad counter and breakfast bar where guests love to gather, visit with the cook and pitch in to chop veggies. Our gracious owner has provided ample cushy seating in the living room including a computer table and chairs for computer buffs. The 3 bedroom main house comes equipped with a 4th full guest bathroom for children and teens sleeping on the Hidde-a-Mat topped cots leaving the 3 King master bedrooms with total privacy. This means 3 bedrooms with "in-suite bathrooms" that do not have to be shared. The Compound also includes a 2 king bedroom Casita which sleeps 4 equipped with its own kitchen.

Located on 2 full acres, Scrabble House Compound offers wide open landscape with native desert sage and sweeping mountain views north, south, east and west. Situated on Ski Valley Road with an uninterrupted drive to Taos Ski Valley and a short 4 mile drive into town makes this "Taos lodging find" a popular choice for groups going in opposite directions for vacation fun (golfing, rafting, hiking, painting, skiing, dining, exploring, biking, fishing, researching or shopping). For your streaming pleasure enjoy the newly installed Fiber-Optics wi-fi.

For our Texas audience who believe summer lodging must include air conditioning - Scrabble House comes equipped with an "Evaporative Cooling" system - designed specifically to function in dry desert conditions. In addition, there are 3 ceiling fans and 4 large portable fans to insure cool conditions for our "very few" hot summer days.

There are a security cameras installed facing the driveway, on the front porch facing the road and on the roof facing the casita and its driveway.

Perfect ski weekend vacation home!

We cannot say enough great things about our stay at the Scrabble House! We had two sets of families with young kiddos and our grandparents. The space was the perfect layout and had everything we needed and more! The drive into town and the ski resort was easy to navigate. The property host was also so helpful and helped us all weekend. We highly recommend the Scrabble House!

Great place in Taos

Wonderful stay in Taos, the home had everything we needed and was extremely spacious for the 3 couples we had in our group. Great location in between town and the mountain! Communication was very easy with the property manager, and the space was very clean.

The Scrabble House was a great place meet. It is close to Shopping, restaurants, mountains... we enjoyed the pool, hot tub, kitchen, grill outside, and more. Plenty of room to visit, eat, and enjoy the scenery!

Enjoyable Family Time

Our family of 8 had an enjoyable time at the Scrabble House. The property manager was very helpful and responsive. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen and a bathroom for each bedroom. The fenced yard worked out well with the dogs that were along. Nice location!

Great Memorial Day stay

My friends and I had a great time at Scrabble House over Memorial Day weekend. Comfortable rooms, plenty of room to stretch out, huge kitchen for cooking, and the outdoor space is amazing. Awesome views. The property manager was great to work with. This is a great vacation home for a large family or a few couples, as each bedroom in the main house has its own bathroom.

Perfect location for our family to stay while attending our grandson’s wedding.

There were seven of us in our party . My husband and I our daughter and granddaughter, son and his wife and my brother-in-law. Plenty of room for all of us and enough spaces to find some privy time. We had time to go to the Rio Grande Bridge , the Farmers Market and explore the town.

The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cooking supplies, and there are also suffucuent toilet paper rolls and paper towels. The care taker is very responsive and helpful.Two things warrant special mention. The windows in the Casita, as noted by other prior guests, should be repaired. Opening or closing them is a 2 person job, one inside and one outside. Beyond incomvenient.The kitchen counters are covered with copper metal sheeting. Very pretty, but almost anything leaves marks; especially acidic things like tomato sauce or lemon juice. Be advised to use cutting boards liberaly to minimize exposure of the surface to things while cooking.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My family and I have held our annual reunion at Scrabble House for several years. Gary at Premiere makes the rental process easy. Terra had the place in excellent shape on our arrival. We were pleased seeing so many upgrades this year. New dishwasher, new flooring in one of the bedrooms, fresh paint in several areas, a new dishwasher, new pots and pats. These all added to the joy of our stay. Needing attention are the windows in the casita. The opening/closing mechanisms on all the windows have been broken for many years. As there is no A/C, the broken window cranks make it difficult to regulate the temperature in the casita on warmer days.

Disappointed

Property was in need of a serious pest control visit, spiders, termites, ants and a few scorpions were encountered daily. Main House- several maintainance issues including plumbing, fans, ice maker, baseboard heating units. Furniture was old and in some cases needed replacing. Guest House- several maintenance issues including plumbing and windows. In general both house needed a deep clean, floors, furniture and bedding.

Fabulous place for a large group

Each of us has reached the point where King beds are really a necessity, not just a preference. This property has 5 bedrooms and 5 king beds. Two bedrooms share a bath in the guest cottage. There are three bedrooms with en suite baths and another full bathroom in the hallway. Although not fancy, the accommodations are very nice, comfortable and southwestern in style. I love the copper counter in the kitchen and the large dining table. We lacked nothing! There are plenty of supplies in the cabinets, whether spices or hot chocolate. It felt like home within an hour of unpacking. Located outside of Taos, about halfway to the ski area, it was quiet and offered unlimited star gazing. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else, if I was traveling to this area, with a group again.

We regret renting this place

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was a lousy place to rent. It wasn't kept up at all. They advertised a pool which was incredibly small. It was broken also so we couldn't use it. The guest house had both living and dead rodents in it. When we called to ask for help with it, we got no response. The bath mats were disgusting. They were old and some had dried toothpaste on them. I would certainly not recommend renting this place at all.

Dear Stacy, Thank you for taking the time to send us your review regarding your experience at Scrabble House. We are very sorry that you had such a disappointing stay at Scrabble House and truly regret that our office was not contacted during your visit. Our records show that George the Caretaker for Scrabble House (for at least 6 years now) was attending a Boy Scouts of America Wilderness Trip with his teenage son. His wife was left in charge during his absence and possibly in their preparation to travel neglected to leave the change of phone # to his wife. George would not have had cell service out in the wilderness. Given this, it may be the reason you did not hear back. We have no record of hearing from you that there were any problems. Had we been called to task, Taos Prime Pest Control would have been there within minutes. There is no excuse for soil of any kind on any bath mat as Housekeepers are instructed to launder every linen and towel whether it looks used or not. As for the pool, the photo is labeled as it being an "Endless Pool". Endless pools are miniature pools that have a swift pump creating a strong current that guests swim against as a means to work out, swim and stay fit. They are almost never large pools as they are used as a means of staying fit by swimming into the current. Your review will be forwarded to the Homeowner and the Caretaker and we sincerely thank you for the "heads up". We will be talking with George to see if any light can be shed to help us better understand your report and we will get back to you regarding the pool that was not working. Family reunion at the Scrabble House

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This year marked at least seven times that my family rented the Scrabble for our annual family reunion. We had nine adults this year. Plenty of room in the main house for cooking, talking, and relaxing. Great WiFi. Was able to log into the TV with my streaming account to access entertainment. The kitchen is well equipped. In the main house, the evaporative cooler worked well on the hot days we had in July. The property was clean and well-maintained. Terra, the property manager, was wonderful to work with. She was communicative and checked in on us by text message on occasion to make sure we had everything we needed. I would rate the property with five stars across the board, however the casita could still use some work. It is difficult to cool it down to a comfortable sleeping temperature (daily highs were about 90 degrees) until about midnight. There is a portable evaporative cooler in the casita and the windows have been repaired to where they open effectively. But it would be great if this situation could be improved.
