Sobre esta propriedade

15th Century Authentic Italian Farmhouse & Rehearsal/Wedding/Party Hall

Dragodena is a private 15th century Italian stone farmhouse for rent with Wi-Fi, large salon, fully equipped kitchen, 6 beautiful bedrooms, a private nearby pool, outdoor shower, tranquil outside dinning, and a panoramic view of the fields and forests of the Apennine Hills. Located in a small hilltop borgo, Dragodena offers wonderful day hikes, local museums, world class cycling, and excellent nearby restaurants, The isolated and dominant position of this medieval farm house guarantees total privacy and complete tranquility for a completely relaxing vacation, retreat, rehearsal, or wedding party. Located between Florence and Bologna, Dragodena is an excellent rental base for exploratory day trips to both central and northern Italy from Bologna, Modena, Florence, Sienna, and Prato to La Spezia, Pisa, Portofino, Rimini, Verona, and Venice. With 4088 square feet of space (380 square meters), Dragodena is the perfect place for a large group of friends, a family reunion, seminars, rehearsals, cooking classes, for dreaming. It is a refuge for those seeking to be far away from the maddening crowd.

Across the small country lane is Dragodena's Rehearsal/Wedding/Dance/Seminar Hall and Artists residence. Originally the hay barn and cow stalls it has been transformed into a spacious (6m X 12m) hall excellent for theatrical, dance, movement, musical rehearsals, and seminars. It is also an ideal place to hold a wedding reception with room for up to a 100 guests. It is an excellent place to give seminars of almost any kind. Below the hall are the renovated stalls which act as an artists residence. Each of 5 stalls have been turned into a small room. There is a long dining room table, couches, chairs and tables for creative and in-depth discussion. The stalls have a bathroom and a kitchen.

Dragodena's clients can use the private pool located at nearby Agriturismo La Fenice. La Fenice has a bar and a small restaurant so that you can order drinks or food poolside. One can get there on foot or by car. The pool is well appointed with chaise lounges, tables, and chairs. La Fenice requires that you have at least one meal there a day for pool use. It is a great place to be in the hot summer months with the kids or friends and after you can walk home through the woods or by car, passing through the nearby village of Tolè.

Dragodena can also provide, if wanted, an amazing Italian chef. Our chef grew up behind a plow pulled by a horse, not that he's old. He is, however, a most amazing Italian cook. Taught by his grandparents and his mother, our chef is now a treasure trove of authentic Italian recipes using only seasonal ingredients and spices. He specializes in cooking alla bracia, over an open fire. He can show you how to you use Dragodena's unusual indoor wood oven while making the best pizza you've ever had. You can go with him to the markets to buy what will be undoubtably a sumptuous meals. If asked, the chef, will also teach you his recipes and give you lessons so that you can make these rare meals yourself. If you and your friends or family want to eat a most amazing meal every time and never repeated please ask for il cuoco di Dragodena!

During the summer Dragodena has two outside spaces for outdoor dining, or taking in the morning sun. Dinner is usually eaten under the cherry trees on green grass surrounded by an ancient stone wall. On the south side of the house is a place for morning coffee and pastry. Nearby is the outside shower, wonderful on a hot summer day.

Dragodena has a storied past reaching back 600 years. Both a farm house and a small fortress it has seen battle on its fields over the many centuries until WWII when it was requisitioned by the German Army and used as a base. After the war Dragodena was shut up with everything in it until 2007 when it was sold to its present owner, Paul Magid, founder of the world renowned Flying Karamazov Brothers. That it was virtuly untouched for over 60 years is what sets Dragodena apart as the a unique vacation rental property for those who want the true Italian country experience.

Piacevole soggiorno in montagna

Thank you Juergen for your review and perspective. I would like to respond to each of the points. (excuse the rough translation) "It's a bit run down and some areas have never really been renovated, such as the E.g. the two rooms in the basement which are uncomfortably unfinished/improvised." The fact of the matter is that basement (or cantina in Italian) was one of the most renovated parts of the house. Each room's walls were redone with new stucco or paint. The bathroom there took months of work. I think more to the point is the esthetic. I wanted to leave the house as much as I had found it as possible. Instead of buying new non-inspiring furniture I often made stuff from the things I found around the house. For instance the table into which the sink is placed was an old 100 year old shutter. I attached the table and sink to wood beams, used originally to age cheese, by using the old strapping for barrels that I found in the house. I think it looks great. "Bedroom furniture everywhere is very outdated, with broken parts or paint you'd rather not have." The furniture is, for the most part, antique. It does need attending to sometimes and because I hadn't been to the house, because of COVID, until last fall, (2 1/2 year's) I'm afraid some of the furniture was a bit rickety. That has been attended to now. Again, the esthetic is to use furniture of the time that works with the feel and look of a 600 year old home. I'm not sure what the paint he's referring to so I can't comment. The aim to is have a guest home that is functional but unique and true to its nature. "Our group was smaller than planned due to Covid cases - had everyone come we would have had problems with beds: some of the double beds are quite small (and not all guests are couples), some mattresses poor and hard, bed frames improvised..." I hear you, Juergen, about the size of the beds. They are considered double beds in the U.S. but here, as I've learned, there are specific sizes to go with queen, double, matrimonial, etc... The bed frames were not improvised. They were designed by a furniture maker from Bologna and were put together with ancient beams from the homes around the Borgo. "The Kitchen could also do with updating - well stocked with pots, crockery, cutlery - but oven and dishwasher are small, concrete sink a bit off-putting, pizza oven useless." I just had a world famous Venetian chef here who was cooking for more than 20 at the house. He loved the kitchen. The sink is the original stone sink of the house. It takes a bit of getting used to but like the rest of the house brings you into a different frame of mind. The oven and dishwasher are small because that is size of the kitchen made 600 years ago. Over the last decade we have had many groups here of over 20 and there have never been a problem feeding them and making the food in the most delightful way. And speaking of delightful, the wood fired stone oven works beautifully. We cooked Rabbit and Bacala in it this fall (made by that aforementioned Venetian Chef). Just keep the fire dolce and not too excessive. But it was burning for nearly two days straight. I think Juergen, perhaps you didn't see the door in the. fireplace which is how you access the round egg shaped ancient amazing wood-fired oven! "A seat outside is missing, you can only take some wobbly, broken chairs from the basement and try to make yourself comfortable without a table. How nice would a terrace with a table and chairs be!" There is a beautiful round table for many to sit around and. have breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I'm sitting at it right now as I write this. It was, unfortunately, hidden in the. garage and my caretakers couldn't find it. It will be put out this summer in the dinning area under the beautiful and shady cherry trees. The chairs are not wobbly or broken to sit at. The outside dinning area is lit by a string of lights. "In the upstairs bathroom, the water from the shower barely drained, but even after our kind hostess cleaned the drain, the smell of drain pipes was noticeable throughout the room." I am sorry for the drain problem you had, Juergen. There was a problem with the septic field's containers not having their yearly maintenance due to Covid. That has been resolved. "As said, we still loved the house and had a happy week there. But we are an undemanding group..." Thank you, Juergen. I hope you might think about staying here again. all the best, Paul Magid Owner

Calm farm in the countryside

Remote farm in the Italian country side. I can say this house has a certain charm and a lot of potential. Upper rooms are nice. The house is a mix of old furniture with a bohemian accent. The kitchen is very small. Impossible to really cook for lot of people. (The kitchen sink is from the house origin, look nice. But really small). Also you need to really pack well any food as rats are helping themselves. There are too many beast in the house for the room in the lower floor to be usable. (Beware of the rats). The dining room have a table for 12. (Not 20). Honestly, this house with a few more renovation (and pest control) would become very nice.

The house does not have any rats. What it does have are type of squirrel called a ghiro. The are grey, with black eyes, and can be somewhat mischievous and also funny. This the first time I have heard of them coming into the house and eating fruit. They must have come in during the night and found something to eat during your trip Geki. They are a protected species so we who live in the country enjoy their antics and put away the food at night. Again, there have been often a hundred people for a wedding at the house and the kitchen has worked for them. I can't change the kitchen without changing the nature of the house. Again there have never been any rats at the house. There are kind of squirrel that are protected by the government. This the first time we've had a big complaint about them. Tham you Geki for your comments. We are always trying to improve the VCa'Ricci and have comfort meet the esthetic of a true 15th Century Italian Farmhouse! Paul Magid Owner

Beautiful location in old, rustic house

We stayed with friends in this house near Zocca. we liked the basement where we could have fun, and the rustic look of the house. We had a wonderful week! Please mind that the pool, and two other rooms included on the advert are not included in the accommodation. This could have been listed more clearly, but Paul was willing to meet us halfway there so that was nice.

Urlaub in Zocca

Magical!

Dragodena is a pastoral paradise! My children foraged ripe cherries and wildflowers from the surrounding hillsides. The house was gorgeous, peaceful, with an ancient elegance, and with beautiful layers of its former lives left open to the discoverer. A truly magical experience.

A Wonderful Stay, Interesting Home, and Simply Amazing Host

We had a wonderful stay at Dragadona in Emilia Romagna. We are a group of four couples traveling for several weeks in northern Italy. We spent nearly a week in this lovely house built in the 1430’s—what an experience! The location is good for touring the many wonderful places in this area. The countryside is beautiful. It is nearly impossible to describe adequately how gracious and helpful the owner/host was. He helped us out of a problem with disabled rental car that took hours of his time (above and beyond hardly describes this), provided great tips on sites to visit and on shopping and restaurants. Paul made this a truly memorable week. The house easily accommodated 8 of us—with loads of shared space. It’s been lovingly brought into modern times, with a respect for authenticity and its 500 year history. He has preserved many of the historical elements of the house and furnished it with items that suit its country and rustic charm, including the kitchen appliances which we found adequate for our needs (There is a full size refrigerator—and a new clothes washer). We heartily recommend this peaceful location for its relatively access to so many wonderful sites, for the history of the house itself, and for the delightful setting to relax after a day of touring.

ottima posizione e struttura confortevole

AExperience the Italian vintage country side!

Exhilarating and a must experience for anyone wishing to explore the wild vintage countryside in Colli Bolognesi, Italy. The lovingly restored old farmhouse accommodated our group of different international friends of over 20 (and more during the day) so comfortably, with heated up bedrooms and the entertainment sala "Cantina". The surroundings are inspiring for walks and exploring. The major appreciation of Italy is the exquisite food which was spectacularly presented and carefully prepared by Alice, a young exuberant lady, while her husband Sol made sure our comfort was not compromised in any way. We could not have asked for more. Daniela C.

Stunningly Beautiful and Perfectly Located

My wife and I loved our two week stay in this magnificent 600 year old house. It provided a perfect combination of rustic charm and modern convenience. This huge house served as our home base for our adventures throughout the region, and it was always wonderful to return to this peaceful retreat via the winding hilly roads. The landscape all around is breathtaking with wonderful little villages near-by. We can't wait to return to Italy and would definitely come back to this special place.

I am a theatre director, playwright and founding member of The Flying Karamazov Brothers and the New Old Time Chautauqua. I have had my work played on Broadway, London's West End, in theatres around the world.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

I was looking for a home in Italy that was authentic. I searched for a long while for an Italian home that had been untouched by a modern renovation. I was also looking for an area that was in the Apennine Hills that was a bit isolated but shared the look and feel of Tuscany but was an area as yet undiscovered . This house had been closed since WW2 but the last owners had kept the roof in good condition. Inside was a museum, a dusty museum, but a place that remained as much as it had been since it was built in the early 15th century. The rolling hills, the beautiful meadows and forests captured my imagination.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

The interplay of medieval architecture combined with the conservative renovation offers a unique environment for a peaceful respite surrounded by 600 years of accumulated beauty. My aesthetic in bringing this house into the present century was to solve each problem, as the original inhabitants had done before me, by using the materials at hand.
When I bought the house there were no bathrooms, the electricity was pre-war, the cantina had been a stable and chicken coop with much of the floor was dirt.
I used stone found in the area. I made most of the beds from found beams and wood. The bathroom sinks rest on ancient shutters, the shower curtains are held up by barrel straps found in the house.

The outdoor shower in the afternoon sun as one views the rolling meadows is to die for. Having an outdoor lunch under the cherry trees surrounded by medieval stone architecture amidst the songs of birds and the sound of rustling leaves is to travel back in time.

Being with your friends and or family in a place that is both aesthetically and naturally beautiful adds to unique and memorable nature of such a gathering.
