Dock House - Creek to Beach in 5 minutes

Nestled in a park like setting the The Dock House offers the best of both worlds. Quiet, comfort & privacy after a day at the beach or a night on the town. The back of the property features a screened porch (but bugs are rarely a concern) that opens to all the sounds and sights a salt water estuary can provide. Hawks, Heron, Egrets, Osprey, Pelicans, Pipers, Turkey Vultures and Woodpeckers are everyday visitors. Game such as Deer, Rabbits and Squirrels frequent the area. Visable from the dock are fish and crustaceans during the daily tidal flow. The side yard is large enough to acommadate a Bocce, Badmiton or a Croquet game. A park style barbecue is located down by the and two hammocks in the shade down by estuary to relax and unwind.
One of the worlds top 25 beaches (voted by National Geographic 2017 & Trip Advisor 2018) is located 2 miles away as the crow flies. Parking at the beach can be found for free at the main entrance area or back towards the shops. Paid parking is also available for $8 a day at the Pier. The fishing pier is privately owned and requires a $1 fee for a stroll and history read of the isle or $9 per pole for fishing. The beach is a beauty at all times. Great sun soaking, swimming, bicycling, walking or running. The sand is packed smooth and hard where water touches it. 10 degrees cooler at the beach. A stiff breeze can visit every so often at the beach, anchor your umbrella well or rent a cabana. Be sure to catch at least one sunrise and sunset from the beach breathtaking vistas. Sunset Beach Island accumulates more land mass everyday, a rarity for an island. Some of the best times to visit are late May to June or Sept. into mid Oct. But it's not unheard of to hit 75 degrees in January. Check water temp for swimming plans though.
Calabash is billed as "The SeaFood Capital of the World" starting back in the 1940's. The area usually draws a good crowd around diner time. Fresh shrimp is one of the notables for the area. Many great consignment stores in town and in surrouding area.

They furnished everything…… everything!! It was very clean and nice! The check in and out was very simple.. Paul was responsive to questions….. all around an excellent experience! The dock is awesome for fishing and even saw two alligators!! The screened in porch is where we ate meals and talked! We will rent this place again and again!

The house was perfectly clean, organized, and well stocked. They generously provide shower products, dish soap, and laundry detergent. The kitchen is well stocked, including a helpful spice cabinet. As mentioned, the ice maker is quite slow, but the gas station is equally convenient. The outdoor shower is part of a beach trip I love so I was glad to discover the semi-private access. The host has gone out of their way to make you comfortable, including nice mattresses, covered bed legs to protect your toes, foot washing station in the driveway, and hammocks! The washer and dryer have an impressive capacity! The fridge and freezer did a great job once given overnight to catch up to all we loaded it with. It was a lovely stay!

Our stay was very homey and relaxed, which was just the break we needed. The kids enjoyed looking out at the water in the mornings. It was really nice being so close to the beache, especially with the young ones. Paul was very nice and quick to respond to any messages. Overall, a great area, house, and host!

Wonderful place

Very comfortable house in a beautiful location. Calabash is a great little town. Easy check in, house is clean and well stocked. I could spend all day sitting on the dock.

Great little house and a quiet little neighborhood

We love sitting on the back screened in porch watching all the nature we saw deer a snake lots of birds fish jumping in the water it was very peaceful I would stay there again.

Great house and location for our family vacation

We had everything we needed for our vacation. My son really enjoyed the fishing. He hooked several fish and an alligator. Many memories were made. A 10 minute drive the beautiful sunset beach was perfect. We hope to book here again if ever back in the area.

Relaxing

Enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch watching the wildlife. We saw two alligators this trip. Caught a few fish out of the tidal creek. The big yard is excellent for kids to run and play in.

We LOVED IT!!

Oh my goodness we cannot say enough amazing things about this property!! The house was super cleans and so well stocked with necessities the backyard os beyond perfect. We fished every tide in and out and had a blast. The neighborhood is super quiet and we enjoyed all the natiure!! So many gorgeous birds and even raccoons we went on our belated honeymoon and are already planning another trip soon. Paul was very communitive and super kind!!

Great stay

Nice, quiet, safe neighborhood never felt the need to lock our vehicle whole there. House was what we expected. Clean house, well kept lawn. Hosts made checkin very easy though we thought we were at wrong address when arrived because there was vehicle in garage so we had a laugh over that. Due to wind and low tide being middle of afternoon i didnt get to fish but the pier and screened in porch offered nice realaxing atmospheres.Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Wonderful House Near The Beach!

Absolutely Awesome Brick House just a very short drive from some terrific restaurants, gift shops, and of course, the Beach! Located in a safe and quiet neighborhood with a great scenic backyard view of nature and water! Really nice large yard with lots of room on a cozy private lot. The owner, Paul, does a fantastic job of quick response communication and genuinely cares that all of your questions are answered in a fast and timely manner. Would most definitely stay here again and hope to do so every summer going forward if our schedule permits. Cannot say enough good things about this well kept and clean property! No negatives to report whatsoever! Lee in Tennessee

Rare find in Calabash

My parents live in Calabash. We stayed here so we could have some extra space for a family reunion. The house is a rare find in this area. Lovely yard right on the water. We really enjoyed the little dock sitting area. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking. Nice big, clean fridge, Stove and oven worked well. It was cold outside, and the heat worked well. The sun porch is nice. And the living room and kitchen sitting areas provide lots of places to spread out and relax. The neighborhood is nice and quiet. The checkin and checkout were easy. And the owner was very responsive though we did not experience any problems whatsoever. Really good find!

Fantastic!

This was the cleanest, most well-stocked rental we've ever stayed in. Also the most accurately described. The house was spotless, and instead of mismatched, random, and often nonexistent cookware and kitchen ware, there were complete matching sets of everything, and plenty of pots and pans and other gadgetry. Plenty of towels, pillows, bedding, even shower gel and shampoo. Fishing was pretty good.....would have been better if not for the shortage of live shrimp bait in the area lol. The yard is beautiful, the dock is great, and the neighborhood was very quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about this rental, thank you for sharing. We will be back!

Peace and Quiet

Nice brick ranch home in a very quiet older and established neighborhood. I was surprised at how little traffic and people I saw during the whole trip at the home. The yard is huge. Very private and quiet. Being on the creek and having the dock is perfect for relaxing and watching the wildlife. I caught a few fish and saw a bald eagle among tons of other birds and crabs. Very close to all of the Calabash seafood restaurants and shops. I’d also recommend Gravy Southern Eatery which is very close by. You’re also only 10 minutes away from Sunset Beach and 15 from OIB. Paul was easy to work with and provided updates on anything needed. Would have no problem staying in the home again.

Rent at your own risk!!! Roaches!!!!!

The outside of the property is set next to a beautiful little river, and is quite charming. However, on the inside the home smelled musty, and when we began to open cupboards and put away our food, we were greeted with huge cockroaches we constantly had to hide our food in plastic bags or the refrigerator, the same with dishes, so they were not ran upon by roaches, the bed linens in the master bedroom smelled of body odor. I informed the owner of my displeasure of renting out a roach infested smelly property. He told me I could leave and he would refund my money. The problem with that is I had no other place to stay on such short notice. I ended up buying laundry detergent and re-washing all the bedding because it reeked even with their detergent and tried to make the best of it. I cleaned up the place better than I found it re-washed all the dishes, and even left roach traps for the next guest. The owner was kind enough to reward me by charging me $45 for not putting the garbage by the curb. I wouldn’t stay here ever again. I was constantly concerned that I might carry roaches home to my own family home. Rent at your own risk.

Dawn and Companion, I was very extremely timely with my replies. I offered you the option of a refund if you wanted to secure new housing. I'm sure you would've been able to find a substitute this time of year. You are the only person out of over 100 previous rentals that complained about the cleanliness only accolades many times over. As for smells or odors we had just left there the end of the first week of Oct. My wife has an ever present sense of smell awareness for undesirable odors. The sheets were replaced with clean ones after we left, we even washed the king comforter. There was one new king pillow the others were just replaced in May of this year. We have an Air Doctor air purifier that I just replaced both of the elements end of September. I offered to cover the expenses you incurred for doing what you deemed necessary to make our place acceptable to your standards. You never contacted me to make those arrangements. I'm sorry you felt so many things were so unsatisfactory. Maybe you lean more towards the glass half empty side. I hope you were able to enjoy what we feel is a great place to R&R with the bonus of a wonderful piece of nature.

Secluded, Full of wildlife, located off a salt water estuary, close to many amenities, 5 minutes from Sunset Beach.
