Enjoy your woodland home away from home.

Three-piece washroom, full kitchen, living/dining room, Woodstock, private beach, canoe, dock, fire pit.

The Space

Zum Waldhaus has been a summer home away from home for over 50 years. This fully equipped cottage is ready to host your lakeside summer family vacation. Nearby Algonquin Park and the surrounding Haliburton Highlands have plenty to offer in day trips, or enjoy the privacy of your own beach on Cardiff Lake.

Guest Access

Sleeps 6. full kitchen (Oven/refrigerator/dishwasher), 3 bedrooms, indoor wood fireplace, outdoor fire pit, private beach, dining room, sitting room, canoe,bathroom with shower, electricity.

Check In
Self check in with a lockbox. The cottage is totally private for the duration of your stay. (NOTE: there is a cottage next door which is also totally private but is close. You will also be able to hear some traffic from across the lake)

The Neighborhood

The Haliburton Highlands offers many beautiful hiking trails, canoeing, ATV trails, boating, fishing, arts and culture, scenic cycling and motorcycling trails, golfing, horse-back riding, geological wonders, mineral deposits and geocaching. There are so many natural wonders in the area that you will need two weeks just to get a taste of what Haliburton has to offer you for you dream cottage vacation.

Fishing and Boating
Cardiff Lake is home to Rainbow Trout and Bass among other species of fish. It is a great summer fishing spot.

Peaceful experience

The views were spectacular and the stay was calm and peaceful. A beautiful hidden gem, not to far from the east gate of Algonquin. The hosts were so welcoming. Made the trip very easy.

Cottage Life

I recommend Kyra's cottage to anyone who wants to take a break from the bustle of the city. The view of the lake from the living room window is amazing. The lake is small and clean. Excellent swimming and fishing. Great hostess, easy check in. We spent 3 wonderful days in this cottage. Thank you, Kyra.

Lovely memories

We enjoyed our three night stay at the cottage. The weather was wet and cold but we were cozy in front of the wood stove in the living room. Beautiful view of fall colors across the lake. Kitchen had everything we needed. I would love to go back in the summer to swim and enjoy canoeing.

perfect cottage stay

The property was perfect. The house was well kept, clean, well furnished and well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed, bathroom modern and functional, comfortable beds, seating for everyone indoors and out. The lake is stunning, and the situation of the property perfect on it, for sitting on the dock, wading, swimming and canoeing. The size, location and amenities of the property was perfect for our group, 3 adults and 3 kids under 8. The locale is excellent, everything you could want to do in a cottage getaway, but also stores nearby if you need something. Highly recommend and hope to return!

Everything about this place and my stay was wonderful. The host was super responsive, the house was clean, quiet, and spacious. The view- what a view! I could have spent all day just staring out the window at the lake. Would definitely stay there again.

Amazing Location and Amazing Host

The trip was amazing from the beginning. The host was friendly and great with communication. The cottage location was so picturesque and we saw a ton of wildlife. The cottage had all the amenities AND HOT WATER! It was great that we could bring up our dogs and enjoy the trip all together. We definitely hope to return.

Great cottage experience!

The cottage was clean and cozy. The view of the lake was beautiful. Clean water and quiet lake - nice for swimming and canoeing. There’s another cottage on one side and nothing on the other side. The host was very responsive which was appreciated!

Wonderful holiday spot

Cardiff lake

We had a fabulous time. The cottage accommodated 7 people very nicely. The location of the cottage was amazing and so beautiful. We did lots of hiking. The waterside was incredible and the lake is very scenic and serene. We enjoyed the water and hill view from inside the cottage and out. If you like geocaching, hiking, camping or just relaxing by the lake, I strongly recommend this stay.

Awesome Cottage in Quiet Area

Staying at this cottage was an awesome experience. We rented the cottage to get away from the city and experience Algonquin Park. The cottage is an approximately one hour drive from the Algonquin Park main day hiking trails along Highway 60. However there are a few hiking trails in the southern part of Algonquin Park and the area surrounding the cottage within a 15 minute drive. Therefore, the location allows you to avoid staying in the really touristy areas while still being located within a reasonable distance of the main part of Algonquin Park. The cottage is in excellent condition and had everything we needed for comfort, such as three bedrooms that can sleep up 6-7 people, a fully equipped kitchen, a BBQ, and a fire pit for the essential experience of cooking hotdogs and s'mores over the fire. The cottage also has a patio and dock that allows you to stay outside and look at the stars. A canoe eas provided allowing us to start ourmorning with a paddle through the mist of the quiet lake. The cottage is located on a quiet road that is part of a trail system that provided me an enjoyable 10km run. The owner went above and beyond what we expected. Check in was extremely simple and the owner checked in on us daily to make sure that we were having an enjoyable time and to see what else she could do for us. She even gave us a warning of an upcoming cold night that allowed us to prepare to ensure the kids had a comfortable sleep. She provided us a binder that let us everything we needed to know to maximize our stay in the area. My family is extremely happy that we were able to find this cottage and it was instrumental in making our first visit to the Algonquin Park a memorable experience.

An absolute diamond in the rough

I came here with my parents (in their 60s), my sister and my 2 year old dog, looking for peace and tranquility. I got a lot more than that. Kiki's hospitality was impeccable. The cottage was cozy, accessible, clean, and had all of the amenities. We went swimming, exploring, and had a fire in the lovely pit. There was never a dull moment. The cottage also had impressive and absolutely stunning views. I will definitely return and I highly recommend renting from Kiki. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

I grew up at Zum Waldhaus cottage rental and bed and breakfast. Having many fond memories of Cardiff Lake, my husband and I decided to purchase them in 2012 from my father. Currently I am an artist and art teacher, and offer art and yoga retreats throughout the year. I live in Orillia with my family where I have my studio.

Having grown up here, I always loved the magic of the forest and lake. The smell of the ferns, the sound of the loons, the fresh air and the trees bring me to my happy place every time. I love cycling along the rail trail, I love swimming, hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. There are many places that are beautiful throughout Canada that I have enjoyed but this will always be home.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

Its the view of the lake in all of the seasons that do it for me. I can't wait to dive into the water each morning. Also watching the baby loons grow up each day a little more. There are some time periods in the winter when the forest is so silent that my ears ring. Oh and the stars! There are so many stars! Sometimes I have even seen northern lights.
