Formally a medieval hunting lodge, 'Ta Torri' is now a private villa, lovingly restored to provide simple accommodation surrounded by beautiful gardens.

The colonnaded path down the garden is one of only three remaining on the island and is just one of the features that makes Ta Torri truly unique. Surrounded by high walls, the villa affords complete privacy for sunbathing, swimming and outdoor dining.

The villa is situated on the outskirts of Mqabba, a quiet and beautiful Maltese village. It remains almost entirely free from tourists, unscarred from modern development, providing a ā€˜realā€™ Maltese experience.

Special place! Beautiful garden and house. Living room is nice and comfy. Kitchen is well equipped. Bedrooms and bathrooms are basic. Tower apartment has a new, big bathroom. Youngsters liked the tennis table in the garden. Swimming pool was nice and clean but very very cold unfortunately. Area is very quite. Little shops and few bars/restaurants within 10 minutes walking distance (check opening hours!). Uber or Bolt will take you anywhere (6 minutes to airport/10 to Blue Grotto viewing point/20 min to St Julians). Plus: beautiful-spacious-special-quiet-airconditioned-very helpful owner and property managerMinus: swimming pool not heated and thus very cold in October-old mouldy smell inside house-little damp-mould in bathrooms in house, TV in tower apartment did not work.

We really loved our stay in Ta Torri it made us feel happy and joyous just to be there. The grounds and gardens are beautiful and the interior is just ā€˜wow. The villa is well equipped and the fresh drinking water in the kitchen was a real bonus. We enjoyed day trips to Valetta, Popeye village as well as walks in to the local village. We would love to return at some point as there is still much to explore. It was hard to find light switches which was a small issue and we kept our children away from some of the villa such as the old staircase as it looked a bit of a hazard .. it could also benefit from a few more safety rails on the family room windows, we overcame this by keeping the shutters closed and solved the small stairs issue by using the main marble staircase. It was honestly probably the most amazing place weā€™ve stayed in terms of holiday accommodation. It was sad to leave.

This is perhaps the most beautiful house one can stay in in Malta with a fairly large (8 and over) group of family and friends. Itā€™s a glorious historic house set in spectacular and enormous gardens which happen to include a big & beautiful swimming pool.This is miles from the ghastly tourist strips of the north, but in easy range of Valletta & Mdina, and other historic sites.The house is obviously much loved by its owners who have inherited it, and who have poured their energy and intelligence into restoring an exceptional seventeenth century property. It is an absolute privilege to stay here and see what they have restored and are maintaining.Everything is comfortable and beautiful.

All we could ask for!

A superb medieval building and adjacent tower (hence its name, Ta Torri) that has been carefully preserved and modernised by the addition of a swimming pool and AC in the majority of the bedrooms and the kitchen, although the unit seemed to work at full power, despite any setting!We, a party of 2 children and 6 adults loved it. When we arrived, there were 5 ladies cleaning the place and when we asked where to buy groceries etc one took two of the party to a shop called Daily Needs in her car. Once the provisions were obtained, the shopkeeper told his son to deliver them, plus the purchasers back to Ta Torri in his car. How about that for service?Everything we could wish for was there, even the water pressure in the tower room was eventually understood!Although close to the airport runways, any aircraft noise was minimal. Would we go to Malta again? You bet! Lovely place with very friendly people and good taxi services!

Wonderful historic villa and gardens

A wonderful historic villa, away from touristy areas, for an authentic Maltese experience. The house more than lived up to expectations - glorious gardens, and spotless pool which was cleaned early every morning. Two large fridges, (both with small freezer compartments), one of which we used for our cold drinks. The cold water chiller dispenser was an amazing addition. We used the gas barbecue several times and it worked really well, as did the dishwasher and the washing machine. The villa is close to the airport, but we didn't find this disruptive. Anyone with very sensitive hearing it may be worth taking earplugs - but we didn't need them. We used the bakery in Mqabba for freshly baked crusty bread, and The Convenience Store on Triq Santa Katarina for Pastizzi and Wudy sausage rolls. Both within short walking distance. There is a large Lidl less than 10 mins drive away. Recommend a private tour of Ta' Minta Catacombs in Mqabba. See Heritage Malta website for details. It isn't open to the public, but you can book a tour. We enjoyed the house and gardens so much that we spent a lot of time at the villa, alternating days sightseeing, with staying by the pool. We had 2 hire cars (parking on the road outside the villa was never a problem), and we also used Bolt for a number of trips, and would definitely recommend downloading the app, as there are some restrictions with parking, particularly in Valetta. We loved this villa, and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Classical Luxury

This property, a genuine palace, is packed with history and tasteful updates that nake the stay here truly memorable. We stayed for our daughterā€™s wedding for a week and part way through we wondered why we didnā€™t hold the wedding at Ta Torri!Donā€™t be out off by the proximity to the airport, we were only disturbed when a Ryanair engine test went on for an hour, not by air traffic.We expect to be visiting our new family in Malta more frequently and so wonā€™t hesitate to stay again - thoroughly recommended.

Outstanding!

The house and gardens were absolutely great. As an archeology enthousiast, I came to Malta for the neolithic temples (and brought my family with me). This historic hunting lodge with an inner an outer garden including a very 'own' tower is just amazing and added great value to our stay on Malta. Each walk through the columns was a joy and the garden was filled with blooming flowers and the ever singing spanish sparrows. Couldn't ask for more. Also a great location for trips around the island (do rent a car), without any hinder from the adjacent airport. Mqabba is a nice and quit town with enough stores for daily needs. I am very greatful to the owners that they made this place available for tourists. My family and I will not forget Malta nor this great accommodation.

Meine grĆ¶ĆŸte Sorge war am Anfang die NƤhe zum Flughafen, da ich dachte es wird sehr laut sein aber das war gar kein Problem. Man hƶrt die Flugzeuge zwar aber es war nicht unangenehm laut. Die Unterkunft hat uns positiv Ć¼berrascht. Es ist wirklich sehr groƟ & ein sehr auƟergewƶhnlicher Stil. Ganz besonders. Der einzige Nachteil ist leider nur, dass es durch die Steinmauern innen teilweise sehr kalt ist, wir waren aber auch im April, das ist im Sommer bestimmt angenehm. Es gibt aber in allen Schlafzimmern auch Klimaanlagen mit denen man heizen kann. Es ist kein touristischer Ort aber mit Mietwagen super zu erreichen.

Amazing place!

Had a fantastic week at Ta Torri! It is a lovely house in beautiful surroundings, the house is very comfortable and the gardens and pool are peaceful and a wonderful place to spend time. Mqabba is a lovely little town and we definitely recommend eating at Bottegin del Teatro, the food was delicious and the owner was very welcoming. Would happily recommend staying at Ta Torri!

Maltese village charm

Ta Torri Spero is a beautiful place to spend a Maltese vacation! There were 8 of us adults for 3 weeks, each with our own room; 3 couples in the main house and 1 in the tower apartment. This house is very unique and we loved it! We all would meet at the outside dining table to plan our days trips and eat our meals. We barely used the indoor living room although it was large and comfortable, we found the outdoor seating space worked the best for us. There were no issues with having the kitchen detached from the main house, above it is a great viewpoint! The rooms were comfortable and house had everything we needed. The gardens were just breathtaking, it was such a beautiful view to walk into everyday, so spacious and was very private. The pool was perfect for 8 of us, we utilized it almost everyday. Itā€™s elevated from ground level and over 5 feet deep across the entire pool, so we put our pool floats to use and relaxed on the patio loungers. The Mqabba village was so welcoming. We went to 3 local bars, and there were 3 grocery stores that you could get the basic groceries and supplies at. The local butcher was a great place also. We did have minor issues with the kitchen air conditioning not working for a few days and a small shower door leak that was fixed quickly by Robert, the caretaker. The tower apartment had a few bugs that were annoying within the first week , nothing we couldnā€™t handle ourselves. I would absolutely stay here again, thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Superb villa with pool and beautiful gardens

Ta Torri is an amazing, spacious, comfortable (and slightly quirky!) villa with fabulous walled gardens containing a pool and an array of plants including olives and limes. Conveniently located for the airport and within easy reach of attractions such as Valetta and Mdina, but also a great place just to laze around soaking up the sun, swimming in the pool and having long, late evening meals at the huge stone table in the courtyard. The property is prepared to a high standard and the owners are great to deal with. Highly recommended!

A glorious week

Seven of us stayed at Ta Torri in the first week of May. The photographs on the website accurately convey the historic charm of the villa and tower room, and the beauty of the courtyard and garden. Updates to the kitchen and bathrooms provided all the comforts we needed. The layout of the villa is a bit idiosyncratic, but groups of family or friends should not have any issues. Given the time of year, the pool temperature was a little cool so there were only some brief dips. But itā€™s a scenic place for lounging. We chose to manage without a car. Walking, buses, and the reasonably-priced Uber allowed us to get to all the places of interest we wanted (Valletta, Mdina, Birgu, Dingli Cliffs, etc). We loved the village and were happy to be in a quiet spot where we appeared to be the only tourists. Greengrocers and the Maypole convenience store were only minutes away. All the people we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. When we waited at the wrong bus stop, locals stopped and offered advice. English plus our few words of Maltese took us wherever we needed to go. We hope to be back.

Very special place

We had a great time staying here at this unique property. We spent all of our waking hours there enjoying the garden. It is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the Maltese weather. We enjoyed the pool and the boules but our favourite place was the outdoor sitting area. The local village has everything you need and its not far to get to the attractions. A very special property and I would highly recommend.

House of extraordinary beauty and peace

This is an extraordinary place of great historic interest, set in a large and beautiful garden. We felt very lucky to be there. Ta Torriā€™s honey-coloured stone rooms sprawl over two wings and are connected to an 18th century tower wing by an enormous walled garden. The pool is ingeniously framed in limestone and fits perfectly into the formal surroundings. When we were there hibiscus, bougainvillea and plumbago were in full flower, and there are plenty of individual seating areas arranged amongst the blossoms and trees. Itā€™s perfect either for a large group to get together, or to split up and find shady corners away from each other! We had no contact with local housekeeping or management as there was no need, but I imagine they are extremely efficient as everything was clean and in very good repair. One useful touch is a constant supply of chilled water from a kitchen water dispenser, eliminating the need to stagger back from the supermarket with endless heavy 6-packs. Parking was easy, bang outside the house in a broad, quiet street. Ta Torri is very well placed for getting quickly either to Valletta or to the nearby coastal inlets at Zurrieq and Ghar Lapsi. Communications with owner Richard Jackson were super-swift and very helpful, Overall we had a gloriously happy and luxurious time in a lovely place, and have in fact made a booking for next year to cheer us up as we were leaving.

La Torri, simply wonderful

The villa was a wonderful location for our family to gather and enjoy a well earned break together. The place is magical. There are hidden places all over the grounds and lots of peaceful places to sit in the sun or the shade. The area is a brilliant place to explore the island and hopefully we will come back one day to enjoy the his magical abode again.

Unique and beautiful medieval accomodation

We had a wonderful stay at Ta Torri. The uniqueness, character and history of the property made this a wonderful place to stay and the space and the beautiful gardens were stunning. There was so much space to relax and enjoy the gardens. The property was well equipped and the water cooler a real bonus especially during a heatwave. Air con in bedrooms was great and even when it broke down in one bedroom Robert the caretaker was very attentive and got us sorted. Communication and information before our stay was excellent and the location quiet but close to airport and also an ideal base for touring the island with a rental car. Overall we had a great stay in a very unique and lovely property and would highly recommend

Just fantastic

The photos do not do this amazing house justice. It is simply stunning. Weā€™ve been very fortunate to have enjoyed some fabulous holidays, but this honestly was one of the best. The house is full of character, spotlessly clean and fully equipped to make it a stress free holiday. Robert was amazing and always on hand to help with a couple of very minor issues that we had. The only thing I would suggest is take your mosquito repellent!!! The local village is a 5 minute walk away and we were made so welcome. We are already planning our next visit.

Empty and desolate, itā€™s restoration is now complete, providing simple accommodation in extensive and beautiful gardens.
