The apartment is in a fantastic spot, right next door to a small supermarket and surrounded by excellent local restaurants. On a practical note, the washing machine is exceptionally powerful. There are a few small maintenance items, such as a slightly sticky front door lock and a couple of loose fixtures in the bathroom, but they are really minor and easy to overlook. The most critical thing to know before booking—which applies to many similar buildings in this area—is the flawed vertical air shaft. While horizontal ventilation between the street-side and garden-side windows works great, the internal vertical shaft servicing the kitchen, bathroom, and central bedroom is problematic. Local regulations prohibit placing AC units on exterior facades, so owners install outdoor AC compressors and water heaters inside this shaft instead (which is a really bad idea).Because of this, temperatures inside the shaft can reach 50C. Opening any window or door connected to it creates a reverse draft that pulls hot, dirty, stale air straight into the apartment. You should keep all windows and doors facing the central air shaft strictly closed at all times. Additionally, this shaft effectively acts as a heater in the middle of the flat, making the central bedroom quite warm and stuffy since it relies on that shaft for fresh air.
