Hawaii get-away

Alfie and Manfred were great hosts. Place was wonderful. I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to see the Hilo side of the island.

Wonderful

The rental was quite large, with a lot of windows to witness the beauty of this area. The owners were next door and very helpful and friendly. The area felt very safe, and was good for walking and exploring. We enjoyed our stay here very much. The outdoor patio was the best. Thanks

Very nice older home

If you’re looking for 5 stat hotels, air conditioning, and a pool this is not your space. But if you want to live the way most Hawaiian’s actually live this is your place. A good value for an extended stay at the listed price, a bit overpriced after the added fees. At the time we were there it was unusually hot so a little extra ventilation would of been nice but most of the time it would of been perfect.

Home away from home!

I have stayed in many rentals in Hawaii, and this was the cleanest and most bug free I've every stayed in. It was also larger than I had expected, given that it is advertised as a studio. It was ideally situated to catch the breezes and keep the house cool and comfortable. Elfie and Manfred are excellent hosts - they were quick to add another outdoor chair when I mentioned I would like to have one - and they were around when needed, but did not intrude. Mahalo for an excellent two week stay.

The accommodations provided were perfectly located and exactly as the pictures. Although, the pictures do not show the breathtaking views from the entire front of this suite. Sitting on the balcony every afternoon looking at the ocean was very relaxing. Always feeling safe and relaxed made my time spent in this little treehouse wonderful. Manfred and Elfie were very gracious hosts and always available for concerns or questions. Mahalo to you both! Janice

Perch with a view

We had a great stay. Manfred and Elfie have done a wonderful job supplying everything necessary and were responsive to anything we needed. The view of the ocean two blocks away made their place especially nice. We had a lot of rain during our time there but the spacious, light apt. made the rain more bare-able. If you have trouble doing steps this is not the place for you as it is quite a climb up. (They do show a picture of these steps in their VRBO listing). It is a prefect spot to experience the beauty of the windward side of the Big Island.

I would have liked if the advertisement would have not only stated a block form The ocean with no beach access since it was more of a cliff than the idea of Sandy beachfront.

From the moment we arrived we were blown away with the charm, beauty!, comfort, elegance and location of the property and the graciousness of our hosts. The suite is much more than the pictures can reflect. Very Mediterranean feel and so much detail in workmanship! Gorgeous ocean views, very well equipped, airy open space, 5 mini balconies and a big lovely lanai with a couch, chairs, tables, partial covering for shade, chaise lounge and a wonderful soft faux grass rug. With the palm trees, ocean breeze and unrestricted view of that blue, blue Pacific, it’s heaven. The ocean is a two block walk and well worth the effort. The views of the waves crashing into the coast are as spectacular as any on the island.

Wonderful stay!

We had a lovely time in this well equipped suite. Central location to many attractions on the east side; a rental car is required. Clean, spacious and friendly describes the unit and the hosts. Two block walk down to the cliffs overlooking the ocean. Watch for turtles!

Quaint and Affordable.

We enjoyed our stay. Below I will list the pros and cons of our stay at this suite as accurately and fair as possible. Pros- The property owner was very welcoming and helpful when needed. The view of the ocean is just gorgeous. Very serene and private. Quiet neighborhood, peaceful and relaxing. Everything needed to necessitate your stay. Parking. Parking close to the suite onsite. You can see your vehicle from the deck. Beach supplies. There was cooler and towels, boogie boards and other supplies for the beach. Cons- No AC. (Listing does not have an AC listed). It was very hot during our stay, owner said it was uncommonly hot for the season. Near miserable at times. The owner did get us another fan which helped during sleep. Plumbing issues. Could not use bathtub and my wife generally only takes baths. Toilet takes several flushes to discard waste. Sink was clogged but I was able to fix that. Ants. There were a lot of ants inside the suite. One more small thing,there is only one ice tray so if you use a lot of ice for drinks like we do then I would suggest stopping and getting a bag to bring with you on the way in. Location. Neither a pro or con. This location is closer to all the volcanic sites and if that's your game then it is perfect. If you're coming for a lot of beach time then I would suggest staying in the west side of the island because it is a 2 hours drive to get there. There are very few white sand beaches on the east or southeast sides of the island. JL&KL

Perfect and relaxing place near the ocean

The photos do not do justice to the roominess of this suite and the incredible view from the lanai, which provided a perfect place to rest after a day of adventures (and also to hang wet clothes to dry in the morning sun). The place is quite airy when windows are left open and cools down fast at night. The hosts were friendly, gracious and accommodating. They lent me their own folding outdoor chairs and beach umbrella so that my friend's octogenarian parents can have a relaxing and comfortable time at the Punalu'u beach. The initial plan was for me to stay by myself while my friends stayed in a "jungle house" closer to Pahoa. But, due to unforeseen circumstances, some of them had to stay with me, which was ok by the hosts. They even provided additional clean bedding. The place can comfortably fit four people. Would love to stay there for another visit; don't need to look elsewhere..

Wonderful Vacation Rental

This is a perfect vacation rental for two people who prefer the quieter, less commercialized (and I think more beautiful) east side of the Big Island. The rental unit is very clean and nice with a nice view of the water by day and great star gazing at night. The hosts, who live next door, are very nice and helpful, without being intrusuve. I highly recommend this rental.

A home away from home

Walking into the property on arrival felt like I was home. The owners were there to give my fiance and I a very warm welcome. The apartment is very lovely and the best was comfortable. Going to bed listening to the coqui sing was beautiful. You get a nice chilly wind from the windows so no AC is needed. We were able to wash our clothes from the hikes we went on through the week. The dryer wasn't cooperative because of the excessive rain but Elfie got it to work! We enjoy cooking home meals and the kitchen made it easy. We were10 minutes drive from restaurants and services (market, gas station...) If I come back to Hilo I would come back there in a heartbeat. 💕

Perfect getaway!!!

What a lovely, creative slice of paradise this home is!! It was obviously handcrafted with much aloha! We loved sitting on the deck eating lychee and enjoying our morning coffee, the beautiful gardens and ocean view. We also walked two blocks to the lava cliffs to enjoy the glorious sunrises each morning! The home was clean, comfortable and full of everything we needed and more! Such thoughtful amenities and the kindness of our hosts were much appreciated and added to this beautiful vacation experience!

Lovely owners, very accommodating.

We enjoyed our stay especially the beautiful deck off the eating area, lovely. Ocean view is minimized by the trees however it is a lovely spot. The owners Elfie and Manfred are very helpful with info or any needs, my only issue was because of the beautiful windows it became very hot in the afternoon and evening and the place needs some updating. It did not hamper our stay though. Thanks again Elfie, aloha.

Great place to stay!

We found this Mediterranean style apartment was the perfect place to stay on the Hilo side of the island. Very clean, spacious, bright, open plan suite with windows and views on all sides. Opening the windows and glass doors along with the fan provides a nice cooling breeze. Elfie and Manfred were very friendly and kind and Elfie has made sure the apartment has everything you need (and more!) for a very comfortable stay. We stayed for 2 weeks so having a washer and dryer available was especially useful. Returning from our daily excursions the apartment really felt like home. Wifi was great so no problem keeping in touch with the outside world (if you must)! Great place to stay. Highly recommended.

Charming

This is an charming spacious loft two blocks from the ocean. You can see the ocean from the living room and hear it all the time. It is well equipped. There is easy access to a washer and a dryer. A must as it tends to rain a bit each day. The owners are cheerful, helpful and respectful of your privacy.

Nice place

We had a nice stay here. The coast is rocky but beautiful, with the waves breaking. Good place to stay to enjoy the Puna district and Hilo. We hiked out to the flowing lava. There is no practical way to do it from the other side (Volcanoes NP). No AC, but in January temps are mild, and we were comfortable with the windows open. Would recommend.
