Around the corner from the Dunes Resort, this COZY, ROMANTIC one bedroom cottage is a stones throw from Blue Star Hwy and CONVENIENT to everythingSaugatuck/Douglas have to offer. Enjoy gentle breezes from Lake Michigan a short mile away. Amenities: QUEEN SIZE bed/ cedar lined bedroom, sleeper couch for additional guests, UPDATED BATHROOM with tiled shower, towels, hair dryer, complementary shampoos; dining area/ WET BAR, KITCHEN with AGA gas stove top/electric oven, slow cooker to make a meal before going to your days activities, microwave, toaster, utensils provided, washer and dryer. PRIVATE DECK, charcoal grill.
FIRE PIT with plenty of wood in the woods and stacked behind the garage. PETS ARE WELCOME. ($50 pet fee, 2 Pets $75)!!!

Feel free to use the utensils and plates. Please wash them thoroughly for the next guest. There is music in the cottage including vinyl records. If they are new to you, handle them with care, enjoy playing them and return them to their original sleeves. The Blue Star Mansion is close to absolutely everything that makes Saugatuck/Douglas and Western Michigan a great vacation destination. Enjoy your stay! When you leave, lock the cottage and place the key in the key box.

Don was an excellent host - great communication, clear instructions, and thoughtful details to make our stay pleasant. For example, we were coming in late so Don offered to make up the couch bed before we arrived. Cabin was quaint, had everything we needed, great location in Douglas and proximal to Saugatuck and many restaurants and attractions. Would recommend.

Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, I agree communication is important from the host and the guest. Recently a guest inquired if the cottage had a Kurig. I traded the regular coffee maker for the Kurig I keep on hand for them to use. Hosting guests for a week’s vacation or a getaway weekend is a special time, it deserves special treatment. A quaint cottage awaits.

This home is perfect for a couple and is within walking distance to downtown Douglas and a very short five minute drive to Saugatuck. The owner, Don, was easy to communicate with. Enjoyed the indoor decor and would recommend staying here.

It is refreshing to hear that this couple thought the cottage is perfect for a vacation getaway for 2. It also means that past suggestions have been taken seriously and changes made where needed or appropriate. Owning a single property make comments as such especially important.

Host was very nice and helpful. Cute small cottage in a very convenient location. The house stayed cool during very hot days with the two AC Units. Nice new washer …dryer was broken.

The property was adequate except for some hazardous issues such as deep step down into the kitchen and bathroom areas. Also loose tile around the wood burning stove could cause stumbling. Also lighting was inadequate for reading or doing close work. Patio door lock would not work.The bed was very comfortable and the location was fine. The listing property was not as shown on the VRBO website. We did not feel comfortable staying at this property , therefore we left a day early. I would not recommend this property to seniors.

Sorry to hear this guest was miserable, possibly the rain during their stay dampened their “spirit”. I wasn’t able to tell them not to miss the steady bars installed in the doorways where you step down for balance, to feel free to use the bedside lights, the nightlight on the wall or the overhead spot, the convenient lamps in the living room or the overly bright 5-light chandelier over the dining table, the bright 3-lights in kitchen or bright bath light. This review was a gut punch to this owner, especially when it followed a 5-Star rating from the guest before them and the lovely comments from this summer’s guests.

We loved the cottage! Perfect for a relaxing week away, close to Douglas beach for sunsets and we loved exploring Saugatuck and Douglas, as well as a day in South Haven. Lots to do from hiking to shopping to beachgoing all within 10 mins. The cottage was comfortable with a full kitchen and TV, a firepit and great stargazing, and we loved the wildlife: rabbits, deer, and TONS of butterflies! We will absolutely be back!

Thank you for your comments and for pointing out why I love my cottage and this Douglas location! I see deer sleeping in the yard and I smile. AND the butterflies, it’s a bumper year. They love the butterfly bushes, happily sharing with bees. I’d love for you to be a guest again.

Unique, Thoughtful, and Dog-Friendly Stay!

We had a fantastic stay! The home was incredibly unique, with beautiful artwork and thoughtful touches throughout. The kitchen was fully stocked, and the beach supplies were a huge bonus. It was also a great place for our dog — super comfortable and welcoming for pets. Great location and close to many beaches in the area (our favorite was Pier Cove). You can tell the host really cares about creating a great experience. We’d definitely stay here again!

My guests work hard and deserve a quiet respite from daily life. I am happy and fortunate to make my cottage available. When I hear an appreciative review it’s a warm feeling. New this week I am replacing the night stands in the bedroom with simple stands that have 2 plug outlets and 2 usb ports on each. How convenient for guests booked 8/10/25 going forward!

Douglas cottage

We had a very good stay. The cottage suited a couple well and Don is a good host and communicator. The place has some quirks, which we generally liked. But it would definitely benefit from A/C or fans in the bedroom and a little more kitchen equipment. There's also a municipal building project across the street that may change the experience when it's completed.

I love it when a guest says “ we had a very good stay”! The Blue Star Mansion is a true vintage cottage; formerly on the Lake shore, it was moved a mile inland in 1950. A walk down the road is a beautiful experience at Sunset. Deer are having their dinner as we walk by. Wish I knew what more I should add to the kitchen. I’ll begins asking guests when they are here.

Good Location and Fun Cottage

Don is very helpful in giving info about the area. The cottage has fun qualities. The walk to the lake is peaceful. It is a bit longer to go all the way to the public beach if you are swimming. There are great activities close by. Lots of wildlife to see! Good place to stay!

Blue Star Mansion

We stayed 10 nights in this rental. The rental is very close to Saugatuck and to Lake Michigan. Don was super helpful about restaurants and other places to visit in the area. The decor is very eclectic and unique! The only thing I would suggest is a deep cleaning.

Great location

Don is fantastic! He gave us a lot of suggestions on things to do. We initially had trouble with the TV and he quickly responded with help. Farmer’s market in Holland was great. We had our bikes and rode all over the place. Decent brewery close by that had pretty good food. My only suggestion to Don would be a little better cleaning,otherwise, awesome place.

Great vacation property!

This was our first time in Michigan for vacation and Don was wonderful and helpful! We were treated to a ride in a classic Rambler where Don showed us the lay-of-the-land. His restaurant advice was perfect! The cottage was charming and well equipped. We usually cook in 3 nights and the kitchen had a gas stove which usually never happens in a summer rental. Nice Weber charcoal grill on the deck as well. This is really a great location as we were close to everything! As a bonus - it was great to be able to walk to The Dunes!

Cottage in good location but somewhat disappointing given the price point

The bed was really comfortable and the dining and activities suggestions were great. The cottage was somewhat dusty with cobwebs above the bed. The lighting is lacking and there were windows in the bedroom without curtains. There isn't much counter space in the bathroom or kitchen. Location was pretty good. The owner was very nice and responsive to messages.

The Blue Star Mansion is close to everything

We had a wonderful time. Our host, Don, was available and helpful when needed. He gave excellent recommendations for places to eat and visit, I don't think we ever strayed from his list One of our favorite places was the Blue Star Cafe, from breakfast to late-night ice cream it was great and very close to the cottage. You feel that Don is doing his best to make your stay a great one. A cozy bed, good linens, a freshly tiled bathroom, coffee service, and a Smart tv were all at our disposal. I know Don takes these reviews very seriously, so my one recommendation would be to update the electricity. We found several lights (not bulbs) not working, as well as a fan, switches on the wall that seemed to do nothing, and too many power cords lying around. I know as attentive as Don is he will take these suggestions seriously. He is a great host.
