Forest Lake House is a beautiful, spacious home on AuTrain Lake. The home is complete with a full kitchen, two living spaces with Roku TV, 2 full bathrooms (one on each floor), a queen bed located upstairs and a queen and 4 twins located downstairs (1 bunkbed, 1 trundle). There is a pull-out sofa upstairs for guest use as well. Grill out your favorite foods and enjoy the relaxing woodland venue from the multi-level deck facing the lake. Only 10 minutes from the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Lake Superior sandy beaches. Less than a mile to the Snowmobile and ATV trail. Enjoy Au Train Lake and the Au Train River just minutes away for swimming, boating an kayaking. Home is located on the south end of AuTrain Lake with beautiful views and fishing off the dock. Kayak and row Public Boat Launch available just down the road.  (Shallow access to property from lake, dock parking is unknown due to water level fluctuations in the channel access to home.  Our house is pet friendly! There is a $50 per pet fee and an additioanl $30 pet cleaning fee.

***There is a doorbell camera mounted at the entryway outside.

***Door code will be released the day of check-in for security purposes.

***If you are booking through Airbnb or VRBO you will receive a separate contract from Pictured Rocks Vacation Rentals. In order to receive check-in information you will be required to sign this.

The house was in a wonderful location. Centrally located between Marquette and Munising. We visited Pictured Rocks, which were amazing. My families favorite places were actually smaller locations not far from the house. My teens favorite spots were Au Train Falls and Laughing Whitefish and Whitefish Falls. They loved these spots. They were very quiet. We were the only ones at Au Train Falls and Whitefish Falls. We ventured to Marquette and Presque Isle where the kids jumped off the cliffs of black rocks. The location of the house, right on the lake was perfect. We loved sitting in the evening on the dock and kayaking.

Perfect private location

Stayed here for 2 nights. 2 families with preteen boys to explore the Pictured Rocks area. The house was clean & in a great location to Munising. Right off the road but had a private back deck with no neighbors that you could see. The boys enjoyed fishing off the dock and in the rowboat and caught numerous small perch and a pike right from the dock.

A private lake get away

This was our first time venturing into the UP. We loved the lakefront property. Access to Lake Au Train directly from our personal dock was great, appreciated having the boat and kayaks on site with life preservers. Location has great proximity to the offerings of Munising and the Pictures Rocks.

The house was compact but had everything that we needed. The view from the living area was beautiful and the second living area in the basement provided plenty of space to relax. It looks like this would be a great place in the summer too as it has multiple decks that make their way down to the river. This property had very easy access to the snowmobile trails via the side of the road for 0.4 miles to trail 8.

Wonderful for a Family

We enjoyed our visit to Au Train, and this house was really perfect for our family size (2 adults, 3 kids 9, 6, and 2 1/2). It was very clean and spacious. We didn't use the firepit, but my kids tried kayaks for the first time, which they loved. The lake isn't really ideal for swimming (weeds/muck), but perfect for fishing or kayaking. The house is a bit close to the busy road, so that's my one caution for families with young children. The house is pretty toddler-proof though :) AuTrain is just 5 minutes down the road, and has a great pizza place, along with a small conveniece store. Munising is nice and close for groceries or food too. I highly recommend checking out the waterfalls in this area. AuTrain Falls is right down the road, and Wagner Falls is maybe 10 minutes away. The one quirk was a noisy doorbell unit in the hallway, but it didn't bother me, though it could be a little annoying for some. I would absolutely return to this house!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: house was very clean ! A few issues tho. Large spider nest in the kayak, unaware until out on the water. Pots and pans were worn out, no finish on the bottom. Steps to the lake covered in green mold and slippery, causing a fall down 10 steps! Need to be scrubbed. Volume does not work on the bedroom TV upstairs. No emergency numbers for needs after hours. Toilet in the upstairs bathroom slow to flush. Cornhole board broken. Able to play by propping it up tho. No info about supplies in the garage as part of our stay, just had to sort out what was available.

UP trip 5/18 to 5/24/24

We all loved the house. It was very clean and the beds and furniture were comfortable. The location was very nice and private. We had a lake directly in our back yard and enjoyed the firepit in the evenings and the kayaks. It was a small branch off of the larger Au Train lake but an easy row to the bigger lake and very safe. It was so peaceful to sit on the dock and hear the birds and frogs sing while fishing. We had some nice hikes. Particularly liked Chapel Falls and Chapel Beach hike. It was beautiful. We took the Pictured Rocks Cruise tour and we visited Marquette Maritime museum and lighthouse. The Delft theatre was a great delicious restaurant in Marquette. We also took a day trip to Mackinac Island which was a 2.25 hr drive away. That was so fun. There was a lot of driving but everything was within about a half hr to 40 min drive away at most. We did a lot of walking. We also spent a day at home chilling. There was wifi and roku tv and some games. There is a little grocery right up the street, Au Train grocery and they had most of what we needed. We only did one initial grocery trip to Munising. On the last day we drove up to Ipsheming and toured the iron mine. That was fun too. There were a few things that didnt open until Memorial Day like the glassbottom boat tours of shipwrecks, so missed that one, but the maritime museum was really great too. Thanks for a great stay.

We realize sometimes these things happen and they were very apologetic and gave us a partial refund which we felt was a generous amount. It was nice this house has 2 bathrooms and the view in the back was really nice and peaceful. There are lots of birds to watch. We wished we had brought binoculars to see the birds on the lake better. We had chilly weather, but the outdoor area would be nice to use if it was warmer. We didn’t need the third bedroom, but noticed it didn’t have a window. They did add a fire extinguisher for safety. The kitchen was small but adequate. It was very clean.

Waterfalls

Excellent area for viewing waterfalls and hiking. Valley spur is nearby for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Snowmobile Trails are really close. Good times with the entire family.

Outside us the best part

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Outside,fishing and enjoying a fire, yes, the most enjoyable part. Inside was very disappointing. Drab, dirty, old and in a serious need of replacement of the throw pillows, either clean up the filthy couch in the basement, or send it to Goodwill. Kitchen is already dark and dreary looking, so the greasy stove and the poor attempt at cleaning the refrigerator and the drawers and cabinets inside appeared to be someone who is not concerned with pride of ownership. Those throw pillows and the 2 chairs upstairs, nasty. When did cleaning, like washing pillows or throwing them out become out of style? That sad excuse for a "bed" and a bedroom, I am speechless aa to why you think it's appropriate to even say it's a bedroom. Next to the furnace, really?? ThT bunk room, no.... the bathrooms, ugh. The whole vibe of the inside tells me the owners, etc are looking to earn some extra money, this is NOT the way to do it!

The house was just perfect. Very comfortable and plenty of room. Everyone had their own bed, and the two full baths were so nice. Also a nice kitchen for some light cooking. The house was super clean and cozy. We loved the view of the lake, absolutely beautiful! And a very good location for our daily adventures. I would definitely recommend this place, and hope to get to come back some day!
