Isle of Skye Butt & Beinne for (second !) honeymooners or, getting away

This charmingly modernised 1880's-built 'Butt & Beinne' (letting Saturday-to-Saturday) and is a romantic place for (second !) honeymooners or self catering holidaymakers to get away from it all. The bedroom has been part re-furbished in Winter of 2019. Sit and watch the tides from the picture window, visit the Otter Hide or, on walks along the shore, see seals and sea eagle. At night you may see Red Deer and even one of our resident Pine Marten or two. There are breathtaking views in every direction and the cottage is reached over a sturdy wooden bridge. It is around 90 meters from the shore. Arrive 'Over the sea to Skye' in true romantic fashion via the five car ferry from Glenelg (operating only from Easter to October but check with Glenelg-Kylerhea Ferry website first.) A very scenic 10 mile drive takes you to a full range of shops, restaurants, hotels and a bank in Broadford, whence boat and fishing trips are available from the pier there. For full internal shots, please contact owner for link. We listen to constructive criticism and work constantly to upgrade our facilities to make your stay as enjoyable as we can.
There is Storage Heating for the Winter months, which keeps the house warm and makes it a tranquil refuge for writers and thinkers.
EXTRA ! - The RSPB and Forestry Commission have a hide located next to the Kylerhea wildlife hide car park. The hide is staffed five days a week by RSPB information assistants, who provide comprehensive information on the local wildlife. The hide overlooks the ferry and the Kylerhea narrows and during the summer a pair of sea eagles can regularly be seen hunting for fish over the strong tidal flows. The hide also offers the chance of seeing many of the wildlife species including seals, golden eagles, porpoises, otters, common and bottlenose dolphins etc. Basking sharks have even been seen in the kyle. The inside of the hide has displays and information about Scottish wildlife. Younger children can use free backpacks with binoculars, bug boxes, magnifying glasses and a fun set of activities devised by local school children. The RSPB/FCS hide is open from Easter to September and admittance is free of charge.
N.B. To confirm: Kylerhea is actually on the Isle of Skye, which some of the comparatives given are not, such as those over in Glenelg on the mainland.

Top locatie maar...

What a fantastic location! Right on the waterfront with seals and dolphins. Unbelievable.It's a shame it was so rainy. The cottage was very damp and cold. It's a shame that only one of the four electric heaters worked. It was so damp that there was mold on the bedroom wall!I hope it can be repaired.

Our one week stay

The property was fine in relation to what we were looking for and what we were able to spend, given the notoriously high prices for Skye accommodation. The location is very peaceful with wonderful views and it was good having the Glenelg ferry nearby. The single track road to Kylerhea was also in adequate condition, considering its length. A pair of oven gloves and a good wine glass set would be useful, but the kitchen was well equipped otherwise.

What an amazing place to stay. A beautiful solitude, surrounded by incredible scenery & wildlife. It really feels as though you have arrived at the Ends of the Earth. The huge portal of the sitting room window ensures none of this escapes you, even when inside.The croft house has all the basics you need for a comfortable holiday. We found it warm and the bed super comfy. Any slight deficiencies are reflected in the very fair rental price. If you want "Ritz" luxury, go & pay Ritz prices. We enjoyed every minute of our stay here & were sad to leave.The drive in from Broadford or Shiel Bridge is absolutely stunning. Making time for at least one Glenelg ferry crossing is a must. More breath taking scenery, wild life & the famous ferry dogs. Although there is plenty to see, walk & climb around the cottage we had great days out in Torin, Glen Sligachan & Glenelg. Great food & drink at the Glenelg Inn & plenty of safe places to swim. Gives you an excuse to use the ferry...Shaun.Through the swirling mists, we followed the road to the edge of the island & crossed the wooden bridge to find the cottage looking out across the bay. We unloaded the car listening to snorts coming from the beach. How enchanting it is to say Good Morning to fifty seals. Chilling on the rocks like only seals can at low tide. What an exceptional bay this is for flora & fauna with its mesmerising emerald waters flowing through the Kyles. We absorbed the peace of Butt & Beinne and it replenished us...Tamsin.

Perfect

Great location for us and all needed amenities. The view is spectacular and easily a place we would return to. Unfortunately, the shower drain was clogged on arrival so we had to unclog a large amount and also had to buy toilet paper as no spare was obviously seen. These were minor issues compared to how our holiday went. Thank you.

Lovely but needs to be improved

Kylerhea is a fantastic location if you like it remote. The cottage is a few metres from the shore with seals and it has great windows. Unfortunately there was a problem with ventilation and there was a very mouldy smell in every room. Also the cleaners seem to do a very quick job - the cottage was quite dirty. We informed Richard, who was understanding and we hope that the situation will improve.

Great location

We had a wonderful week. Enjoyed Skye as a whole and the direct environment of the crofthouse itself. We liked the quiteness of Kylerhea. We would certainly recommend the Holocaust led, u leds that it was not the most clean house we ever rented.

Beautiful Wilderness and wildlife

The location was great and wild. We loved watching the seals on the rocks. The house was really cute but it was very dirty, which made it less of a pleasant stay and we would not stay here again. It Is a shame as the house has great potenti al but needs some maintanence and a thorough Deep clean

Tolle Lage, Uriges Haus

Wir haben un sin dem Haus sehr wohlgefĆ¼hlt. Einfach, aber gemĆ¼tlich. Auch die Lage ist toll. Wer die Einsamkeit liebt, ist dort richtig.

Wildlife haven

The location is stunning, with seals on the beach right out the front. Itā€™s so quiet and peaceful. Soul soothing and special location. The cottage is traditional and has a wonderful large window looking out to the water. We were warm and cosy. On arrival the kitchen cleanliness was not up to expectations and we spent some time cleaning, we had to go into town to purchase detergent and scrubbers. There was also no bin liners or toilet paper to get us started so make sure to bring those things. The cottage smelt of pets when we first arrived but we were able to get rid of that after a few days. Overall though we enjoyed our stay and just loved the views, wildlife and quietness.

Prachtige locatie, leuk oud huisje, niet schoon binnen.

Huisje bereikbaar zoals de eigenaar vermelde over een weg die naar het einde van de wereld lijkt te gaan. Mooi uitzicht over Kylerhea. Zeehonden praktisch voor de deur. Poetsvrouw of poetsploeg had blijkbaar vakantie, daar we de rommel van onze voorgangers nog hebben aangetroffen. Vochtig was het ook, maar met veel regen en heel veel water dichtbij daar niet zo'n punt van gemaakt.

Incredible Location - Cottage in Dire Repair

While we loved the location of this isolated cottage, and found Skye to be a magical place to explore, we were not at all satisfied with the state of the cottage. The reviews are - to say the least, confusing - some suggest it is perfect while others have expressed concerns about the mould throughout & the overall state of disrepair. We have expressed our concerns in detail to the owner along with candid photos but almost everything we shared was disputed. This was our first time using VRBO and we are not impressed.

Beautiful setting

The setting is spectacular. Very quiet and peaceful. Remote so remember to take all with you. Well stocked Co op half an hour away up small windy very beautiful mountain pass Arriving by the ferry is a must!

Holiday

The Isle of Skye is beautiful and seeing seals on the rocks just 100 metres away a real treat. This cottage did not live up to our expectations due to the condition of some fixtures and fittings. The shower head was held together with cable ties and leaked, the bathroom taps were loose in the sink, the toilet seat was loose, the clamp on one of the bedside lights was broken, the small table had a very sticky surface and the entrance to the cottage needed decorating to make it welcoming.

Owner is amazing gentleman

While we ended up not staying in the property the reasons why I will not put in here. Richard the property owner was a great gentleman and easy to communicate with and the views from the property are amazing, as is the wildlife around the area. Top tip go the extra mile and take the old Skye ferry to get you to the property it's worth it!

Skye week

Great cottage ,great view, pity the roads on the island are full of potholes even some on main roads. The weather was prety good and the scenery was outstanding. Excelent cottage,recomended.
