Hi Kay, I'm glad you found many things to enjoy about our home! I'm sorry to hear about the musty smell and towels. I have never gotten this feedback before. If you had let me know this at any point during your visit, I could have easily fixed both issues. I always encourage guests to be in touch with any questions or concerns during their visit, so I can address them.

I would have shared that you can back down to the gravel spot and turn around there which would have been much easier. Also, most regular cars can turn around up by the garage. I have no problem doing that with my Toyota Corolla In any event, you are welcome back anytime.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I feel sad that you weren't able to communicate your problems/concerns while you were visiting. We would have been more than happy to address them. You are correct that we do not normally rent out the downstairs. We did it for you to be able to accommodate your family members that were visiting. I did mention it was a more casual space than the upstairs and it is a basement even thought it is a full daylight basement. There is a dehumidifier and air conditioning downstairs that we left with instructions for your use while your family was visiting to address the dampness. Actually, there is a lock on the door that leads to the upstairs and we always keep it locked when we are downstairs. We would never enter the rented space without an invitation from our guests. We would have enjoyed meeting and talking with you more if we had known you were wanting to do so. In general, we are rather busy when we stay in town and during your visit we were actually sick with colds as well. We have also found that most of our guests are here to enjoy Asheville and time with family, so we err on the side of giving our guests privacy. We are rather protective of the garage because it is connected to the house and any oil, gas or other substances from a car that would seep into the floor and/or rug that is in the garage would cause the house to smell bad and make it unpleasant for our current and future guests. Our neighborhood is very safe and as I mentioned, anything you wanted to pack ahead of time would have been secure, especially if the car was locked. I am sad to hear that your wife would not like to return and I wish you both all the best.
