  • Charming Tuscan Farmhouse

"My 12-year old daughter and I stayed at La Padronale, one of about 5 apartments at Molino le Gualchiere, a farm near Arezzo, for a week with my sister and her family. Our unit was in the upstairs of what I assume is the old farmhouse. There are 3 very spacious bedrooms, 1 with a king bed, 1 with a queen bed and 1 with two twin beds. The king room had a private bathroom. There is another full bathroom near the twin room, and the queen room had a sink and small shower (but oddly no toilet). The kitchen is spacious and we found that it was well equipped after exploring all the cabinets. There is a gas range and a dishwasher, as well as the original stone sink and a small modern sink. The only drawbacks in the kitchen were poor lighting and not enough glasses for anything but wine. The living and dining area was spacious and comfortable; there were two large sofas in the living room. All the floors are tiled. The unit was very clean when we arrived, but there is no daily servicing. There is no air conditioning, but the heavy shutters and thick stone walls kept the house cool during the heat of the day, and we could let the cool evening breeze into the house with screened windows and the large door at the terrace. We spent most of our time on the terrace, where there was a seating area with wood chairs and a dining table and chairs, both in the shade. The property has a nice pool that was very clean and is shared by all the guests. There are laundry facilities available to guests. The property manager, Claudia, is there every morning and to greet newly arriving guests. She was very helpful and made restaurant reservations for us, as well as providing information about the area, such as where to catch the train into Florence (a 37m ride on the express service). The complex is in the river valley outside Loro Ciuffenna, down a long windy one-lane driveway. Loro Ciuffenna is a small town spanning a gorge over the river with a few good restaurants and little shops selling food, wine, bread, gelato, etc. There is a market in the old part of town on Monday mornings. The new part of town has a small supermarket, gas stations, etc. This is a great location for exploring Tuscany, being only 15 min off the Autostrada between Arezzo and Florence; Chianti is about 20 minutes away, Siena is an hour drive, and Florence is a quick train ride. We really enjoyed our stay at La Padronale and would recommend it for an authentic Tuscan country experience."

"We had an amazing time and would recommend it to all our friends and family. The hot tub is amazing regardless of it being 36 degrees out! The owners are very friendly and accommodating!"

  • A very clean and tidy apartment

"The owner, Sylvia, was very accommodating and helpful. I had a parcel that Sylvia agreed to be sent to the address in order that I could collect it whilst in Paris. Sylvia's father was also very helpful to us, letting us in to the apartment and explaining all the details about the operation of the contents of the apartment. The apartment itself is comfortable, neat, clean and well-maintained. The apartment is located on a quiet road within easy access of a number of different restaurants and a good variety of supermarkets, bakers, patisseries, butchers and grocers. The Metro station - Jules Joffrin - is around 5 minutes from the apartment, so providing easy access to the efficient Metro service. Montmartre and the Sacre Couer are a pleasant (uphill) walk, passing a number of further restaurants. (You may want to do the return - downhill journey). The apartment suited us - mother, father, adult daughter - and our needs very well. Our time was mainly spent exploring Paris using the Metro and on foot during the day and eating & drinking locally in the evening. I have no hesitation in recommending the apartment."
