  • Great house with amazing views

"My wife and I had a wonderful week at this perfectly located and beautifully equipped house. The place is bright, clean and spacious, with every convenience provided. The views of the water are spectacular. Location is convenient to Lunenburg to the west, Halifax to the east, and every south shore place of interest. Highly recommended!"

  • Beautiful view, Perfect location

"The view from this property is second to none. It is so peacefull looking out over the water and seeing the herons and eagles. It is surrounded by trees and has a long private driveway and a large area for parking. The cottage itself is large and has a great layout. There is a big living area with room to watch the satellite TV or to sit and play a game at the coffee table. There is also a pretty large dining table with room for at least 6 and a smaller kitchen table to use as a kids table. It is good for larger groups or families. The appliances are new & clean including a washer and drier which is very convenient. The decor is a bit rustic and old but the furniture is functional. The deck over looking the water is very large and is perfect for dining al fresco. There is an outdoor table and a BBQ provided. The back gate on the deck was broken for our stay but the owner has arranged for it to be fixed right away. We needed more sheets for our stay so we went into Bridgewater to get more but there were lots of blankets and comforters. There are two vacuum cleaners provided and cleaning products are under the sink if you need them. Lots of dishes and cutlery as well as pots and pans and small appliances. During our stay we found the tap water to be a bit smelly. It is safe to drink but we chose to buy bottled water. The owner has arranged for a filter system to solve that problem. There are cottages on either side of this property one is 200 feet away and the other is 60 feet away. The beds are well used but are fine for a vacation unless you have a bad back. This area is spectacular it is close to amazing beaches and rivers. There are loads of things to do including fishing, kayaking, hiking, clam digging, antiquing....the list goes on !! I do think the cottage is a bit expensive for what you get but with newer beds, new sheets and towels and a bit of sprucing up it would be a 5 star ! The owner is very good and is open and available anytime and responds very quickly to any questions or issues you may have. All that is needed is a bit of updating and refinement."

  • This is a terrific property--very comfortable and well equipped; great location; responsive owners.

"Our group of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids under 10, plus our small dog) had a terrific 2-week August vacation at Heron's Perch. The house is very comfortably furnished--comfy living room, very generously sized dining room, great well-equipped kitchen, and spacious comfortable bedrooms. Bathrooms were also great and modern. Location is perfect: close to Hirtle and Sand Dollar beaches; not far from Lunenburg and Bridgewater; gorgeous drives along the coast (LaHave Bakery a short drive and ferry ride away, Risser Beach/Provincial Park also nearby). Owners are responsive and friendly. No hesitation in recommending this property."

  • Angler's Retreat = Great Cottage!

"I was expecting an okay cottage that covered the basics. But Angler's Retreat surpassed our expectations....the pictures just don't do it justice. It is modern while retaining a rustic charm. It is sort of like a boutique cottage, with antiques and art(nothing fussy or fancy; the art is fishing oriented and the place has a masculine feel.) It has a new bathroom, comfy beds, and a full kitchen. Everything you can think of that you might need has been supplied. Everything was spic and span. Nearby, there was a great swimming area. I don't like to fish, but my sister got a fishing permit (at the restaurant right down the road, which is very good, by the way)and she came back every day with her limit of 5 trout. If you like to salmon fish, you should do well, because we could see big fat salmon swimming about in the nearby Margaree river. The hills surrounding the cottage look nice and all in the pictures, but they are stunning in person. Another fun feature was the outdoor mosquito tent, which was kind of like a lounge inside and a great place to hang out at night. When our car broke down, the property manager Joel set us up with a great mechanic and even drove us to pick it up the following day when it was ready. The cottage has everything, the setting was beautiful, and the area has lots to do in the way of hiking, fishing, and day trips. And Joel could not have been more helpful and hospitable. I highly recommend this cottage."
