  • Fantastic get away from the tourist scene.

    Mike

"The place was beautiful and relaxing. This is not your typical island retreat. You will have to rough it a little. No air, room service or walking to the store but that's the whole point of this place. To fall off the edge of the earth into your own paradise. Property was well taken care of and clean for being an open house, no doors or windows in the main house. Sleeping quarters were covered and lockable. Caretakers were attentive and left us to our own unless we needed something. Brought us fresh fruit a couple of times. Little bit of a language issue but hand signs work well enough. Lots of tours for seeing the island and the surrounding water. We were provided with a 15 foot boat to do our own site seeing and getting back and forth to the main island for food, etc. If it rains, you get wet. If the waves are a little rough, you get wet. This is all part of the adventure. There were 4 of us and we had plenty of room to hang out. The views from the house and property are beautiful. Bugs were not an issue due to the constant breeze over the island. Bora Bora is a wonderful place to take on this adventure."

  • A must stay!

    Christine D.

"My boyfriend and I are world travelers and decided to pick Villa Vahimanui based on the beautiful pictures and the wonderful reviews from other travelers. The pictures do not do this villa justice. The view of the lagoon from the living room windows and the lanai are absolutely stunning. The condo was very clean, well-maintained, has wireless internet and a fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom is the only air-conditioned room in the villa, which is fine since we spent majority of our time exploring the island. There are fans in all other rooms of the villa which kept the place cool during the heat. The rental also comes with a car, which was necessary. We drove to Vaitape and went to the grocery store (Super U) and got everything we needed for simple breakfasts and lunches. We ate dinner out every night. In an email Pierre left many great restaurant recommendations. We ate at almost all of them, with MaiKai, St. James and Bloody Mary's being our favorites. The experience of Bloody Mary's was incredible. You walk on a sand floor and the menu of the day's catch is displayed in front of you on ice. You put your order in directly with the chef. Maikai and St. James are more upscale than Bloody Mary's. Both have incredibly delicious food! We recommend all three of them! Pierre is a wonderful host. He went to great lengths to make sure or stay was perfect. During our booking, he answered our many questions in a timely manner, and provided a detail description of what we were looking for. Prior to our departure, Pierre sent us a map of how to find the condo and a detailed list of all the great restaurants and excursions to check out. His two correspondents, Nathalie and Barthélémy were absolute GEMS. They picked us up from the airport after you take the free shuttle across the lagoon, and dropped us off. Nathalie speaks great English and answered all of our questions. She explained the entire villa and made great recommendations about what to do and where to go. Barthélémy stopped by every now and then and gave us fresh fruits from the trees. They were delicious! We did 3 excursions while we were there: scuba diving, shark/stingray romantic tour, and 4x4/jet ski tour. We did the 2 tours through Moana Adventures. Glenn was fabulous during our shark/sting ray tour and Alex/Nico were just as wonderful during the 4x4/jet ski tour. We did scuba diving through Eleuthera Diving. Thank you for a wonderful stay Pierre! The villa is highly recommended!"

  • Wonderful overwater bungalow-world's most beautiful island

    Ken K.

"The Black Pearl is a beautiful, well-maintained and well-equipped overwater bungalow. We were very pleased with our time here and highly recommend it to others considering a trip to the islands of Tahiti. Having owned waterfront properties in Hawaii and Florida, we are familiar with the maintenance challenges created by salt water environments. The Hollands are obviously dedicated to keeping this home well maintained. Although the home is not new, the appliances, electronic gadgets and painted services are all functional, fresh and new looking. The decorating scheme is peaceful, welcoming and appropriate for this beautiful island setting. Their on-Island property manager, Nir, was very friendly and likable. Prior to our arrival, he quickly responded to each of our emails explaining the details of where we would meet him after our arrival on Bora Bora. He met us on the dock-on time-with a rental car and a big sincere smile. He gave us a loaner cell phone with his phone number, explaining that we should feel free to call him in case of emergency or if we needed help or answers to questions. Having Nir's availability was very comforting since English speakers are not always easily found here. While on island, we noted there are two general categories of tourists: 1) Those who feel uncomfortable without direct input from tour guides & schedules for locations to see & events to attend. 2) Those who consider themselves more independent & adventuresome, who prefer going their own way and exploring without a lot of scheduling. The Black Pearl is a perfect choice for this latter category of traveler. Its location on the north end of the island is not only beautiful, but very quiet. The few people we encountered were mostly natives (who were sweet/friendly/welcoming) with a smattering of other like minded tourists. The car rental (from Nir) is a necessity, since town is a 15 minute drive to the south. Each day we cruised around the island enjoying the beauty. We would include trips to one of the excellent restaurants as well as a shopping trip to Chen Lee's or SUPER U for our evening sashimi/sushi & beverages. The worst thing about staying at the Black Pearl in Bora-Bora was... having to leave-we miss it already. What a lovely life experience this past two weeks has been!"
