Vaima Center Apartment is a gem
"The property is exactly as described. (The electric stove is now a gas stove which works very well. But make sure to turn the gas off when not in use.) The kitchen is well equipped. The apartment is clean and airy. There are covered balconies on both sides of the apartment. There is air conditioning but we didn't use it. With the sliding glass doors opened on both sides of the apartment, the trade winds blew through and kept the apartment cool and airy.
The location is fabulous. We are somewhat impaired so we had a car, but people with normal mobility wouldn't need one. All the shops, banks, restaurants and markets are within a few blocks. Champion ( a large French supermarket chain) is located about 6 blocks in the direction of the airport on Ave. General de Gaulle. A marina and tourist office are across the street. The ferry dock to Moorea is a few blocks down the waterfront. There are public busses that cover the island. These could be used to get to public beaches on either side of Papeete. Papeete itself is a lively, bustling town with interesting shopping and good restaurants. People are very friendly. (We speak French, which helps. But most people catering to tourists speak English.) The big Marche (market), about a block away, is a must-see. It has a large selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and baked goods, as well as tourist trinkets and black pearls. A day trip to Moorea on the ferry is fun. It cost about 130 dollars for us with our car. It would be much less without a car, and there is supposed to be public transportation on Moorea. The excursion catamaran to Tetiaroa, "Marlon Brando's island," is right across the street from Vaima Center.
Mr. Michel Tisse was extremely helpful with any questions we had. He arranged for us to pay for parking in the covered garage under Vaima Center. It cost 10 or 11 dollars a day, but was wonderfully convenient. His office is just a few doors down the street. We were at the apartment during New Years and he and his wife invited us to their large family New Year's celebration. They were wonderful hosts-- we felt very welcomed.
We would stay here again. We certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Papeete. The restaurant bar "Retro" at street level in this building is a great place to meet local people as well as visitors from other parts of the world."
