  • Perfect Thanksgiving retreat for our extended family of 10

"Our family klan just returned from four very relaxing days spent at Casa Das Palmas and we are already hoping to return someday. As a previous reviewer noted, the place is even lovelier in person than in the photos; everything is tastefully decorated with treasures from Bali, the Indian subcontinent, the Mediterranean coast, and Meso-America (n.b., I should add that I was especially impressed with the "smaller" scale decorator touches as well, e.g., real wood doors, beautiful tiling in the Jack 'n Jill bathroom, fragrant flowers). Our 5 kids (ages 4-10) played football and soccer on the great expansive lawn, shot hoops on the basketball court, played tennis (even at night, on the lighted court), had ample places indoors and outdoors to hide (when playing hide-and-seek), and frolicked in the pool and jacuzzi to cool off. The adults enjoyed reading and lounging on their many luxurious and comfortable daybeds (indoor and outdoor), prepped our Thanksgiving feast in their gourmet kitchen, and jogged daily to the nearby beach and back. We loved how we could sit 11 people around their kitchen table and could make s'mores together in their cozy indoor fireplace (n.b., they also had two outdoor fireplaces that we might have used if warmer in the evenings). Everything was perfect and the icing on the cake was the wonderful hospitality of the owners - Vivi was a delight to work with (when corresponding about the rental agreement) and Chris (their property manager) was so gracious in welcoming us on our first day and providing a mini-tour of the house, hand-delivering a copy of the New York Times the following day when my father noted that his copy of the Los Angeles Times hadn't arrived, and returning on our final day to bid us adieu. If our travel plans allow for it, we will return!"

  • Extraordinary Home and Experience

"We gave this home 5 stars because the home itself simply overwhelmed us and easily overcame any local inconsequential issues. The home was simply beautiful. The decor sophisticated yet supremely comfortable. The sleeping quarters clean and comfortable. The view from each window serene, different, and lush. The room layout ideal. The separate and multiple decks and patios areas to congregate or for individual contemplation were abundant. The home was impeccable inside and out. The home was within a short walking distance to Butterfly Beach, Four Seasons Resort, Downtown Montecito, and a short drive to Downtown Santa Barbara. Ms. Winthrope was so accommodating and cordial from initial contact and during our entire stay that she enhanced our entire experience beyond description. Ms. Winthrop simply did not overlook a single detail. Our entire family just raved about the home. The only issues we experienced were an occasional train whistle since the home is located near the railroad tracks and a hum from the traffic on the 101. However, from our perspective, these issues were inconsequential compared to the overwhelming positives offered by this outstanding home, and by Ms. Wintrop herself. We simply fell in love with this home. We look forward to coming back again soon. Highly recommended."

  • review secret getaway

"We very much enjoyed our stay in Santa Barbara, a lot because of the nice apartment. The Secret Getaway is a wonderful place to stay, so close to the beach and downtown. We also liked the perfectly equipped kitchen that had as cook more often than we had actually planned, enjoying the small terrasse in the evening sun. Just perfect."

  • Lovely Weekend

"My family rented the Grand Mediterranean for a weekend in late January. It was the perfect place for us. Plenty of communal space in the living room, dining room, and on the veranda. Nice ocean view from the back and awesome mountain view in the front. The kitchen was very well equipped and easy to work in. Of course, the hot tub and outdoor fireplace were wonderful plusses. We hope to stay in this place again in the future. The Mesa area is close to both downtown and the harbor, so it's an ideal location. I wish it were mine!"
