  • Amazing & Wonderful Estate to rent for family vacation

"My family (15 adults & teens) just enjoyed a perfect family vacation at Ravenscroft. It is a spectacular and unique property. The owners have lovingly restored the home to it's original grandeur and it was a special treat to be able to call this estate home for a week. The grounds are stunning. The pool, jacuzzi and tennis court were so well maintained. There's a chicken coop on the property and we were able to get fresh eggs for breakfast. Upon our arrival, the kitchen was stocked with everything we'd requested and a full dinner was left for us so we didn't have to cook or shop on that first night. On a different night, we hired the private chef recommended to us and she was outstanding. There is air conditioning in the master suite and fans provided in the other rooms although the gorgeous Montecito weather doesn't often require their use. Aside from the Maine House bedrooms, there is a one-bedroom guest suite that is beautifully decorated and has an extremely comfortable king bed as well as a pull-out sofa in the living room. There is a 9 seat movie theater with exceptionally comfortable reclining chairs. There is an outdoor ping pong patio, indoor billiard room and gym, outdoor fireplaces in several locations... honestly, this property is virtually perfection. The only thing I'd change is the WiFi signal. It's available in a few spots in the house, but not across the entire property. That said, it was rather nice putting the phone/iPad down for the better part of every day. There are so many places to relax and have fun on the property that it was hard to venture beyond the beautiful wrought iron gates. However, there are many great restaurant choices right in Montecito. This is a special place and the owners are beyond accommodating. I could not recommend it more highly."

  • A gem but with some flaws.

"Had an overall enjoyable stay. There are many positives but a few negatives too which took the edge of the overall experience. First off this is a wonderfully unique and special property that the owner has clearly put a lot of effort into. It is well-equipped and adequately furnished. It is located in a very nice leafy neighborhood next to a creek. We found it very convenient to drive to all destinations in the area. The parking in the driveway is a little tricky as other people mentioned. It is located on a corner so care is required. There is a mirror located across the street to help with visibility. After 1 day we got used to it and it really wasn't a huge deal. If you do have a large full-size SUV you may have more problems as the driveway in front of the garage is not very long. Now the negatives. There were 2 negatives, upkeep and cleaning. The property seemed to lack a bit of upkeep and maintenance. The lights at the front gate and door both seem to out. It is very dark out there and trying to unload luggage and get the key in the door becomes a problem with no light. Lots of leaves/debris on the patio. An old oven rack just randomly lying on the patio. The indoor plant was half dead when we walked in with dead leaves all over the floor. Some power outlet covers and switches weren't secured to the wall fully. Master bedroom needs a window treatment as someone else noted. It could also use a second nightstand. Onto cleaning. This property is not professionally cleaned between guests. At the front door we were inexplicably greeted with 2 bags of trash sitting outside. In the bathroom we then said hello to what looked like a used towel hanging over the shower door. The are a lot of cobwebs in the nooks and crannies. The remaining bedding and towels were clean, no complaints there. In general the property is clean, but just not professionally clean. The TV with Netflix and Amazon was fine after we figured out how to connect the TV to the Wi-Fi. But afterwards the Amazon app insisted on doing an upgrade after which it wanted credentials which we didn't have. So no more Amazon at that point. To sum it up a great property in a super location that is somewhat let down by upkeep and cleaning, otherwise it would score highly."

  • Great Holiday Location

"This home is located in the hills above Montecito, in a beautiful residential neighborhood with winding streets and plenty of interesting real estate to look at. There isn't a water view, but there is a lovely view across the hills; the beautiful light of the sunrise greeted us every morning. The view from the house and the deck is wonderful. If you are a walker, the streets close to the home are not busy; however, there is no sidewalk and very little shoulder so zoning out with your music is probably not a good idea. If you would rather walk/hike on one of the great trails or along the beach of your choice, then no problem! The little shopping area of Montecito is close by (by car) and has a great bakery, and a few shops. Substantial grocery shopping is further away. The house has great living space. The kitchen is well appointed. You can tell that someone lives here when guests aren't checked in. It's a home. The kitchen has good appliances and we had fun cooking as a family. There's plenty of room for several people to be at work on food. The pantry is not at all empty and you are welcome to use supplies you find. So a piece of advice to those checking in: don't go grocery shopping first and assume that you need to buy olive oil and sugar, you probably don't. There is a grill on the deck but we didn't use it during our stay. The house was clean when we arrived and we had no problems getting in even though our flight was delayed and it was late at night. Jill gave very good driving directions so we were prepared for odd house numbering. Jill was very responsive during our stay even though she was in Colorado when we were in SB. We communicated by text and she texted back within minutes each time. We had to contact her about a drain in the sink (solved) and wanted to let her know that a lamp on the deck had blown over in the wind (solved). The first floor furniture is comfortable, I wouldn't classify it as new. The best part of the living room furniture was two very long sofas that you could stretch all the way out on. The living area is large and has two furniture groupings, one with the TV. It was great having a first floor powder room. The bedrooms are large and the beds are very comfortable. A great family holiday location!"

  • A wonderful quiet hideaway convenient to most of the attractions of Santa Barbara

"The four of us spent a very relaxing and comfortable long weekend at the Montecito Sycamore Canyon Hideaway. The bedrooms are very comfortable, and the living room is a great place to spend relaxing social time. The kitchen is well laid out. Our only regret was that our visit during a rainy February did not allow use of the pool. A great advantage of the property is its convenience to several good restaurants and to State Street. The four of us highly recommend the Hideaway for anyone visiting Santa Barbara and environs."
