  • Great place, a great time and hot, hot weather

"Diane is an excellent host, we arrived late after a long hot drive from Baltimore and she greeted us with a 6-pack of local beer - what a star! After showing us around and mentioning a few New London places of interest (culinary and scenic) she left us but made sure we had her full contact details and ensured us she was available if we needed her. The property is as described, a cottage with wrap around porch, and with mostly sanded and polished floorboards throughout. There is carpet in the main bedroom for that cosy touch. The house was spacious enough for our family of 5, two parents and 3 grown-up children. The cottage is entirely suitable for full self-catering including use of the gas barbecue on the porch as well as the fully equipped kitchen. During our stay we did a mix of eating-in and eating out at local places as recommended by Diane. The property is only minutes away from Ocean Beach Park which has a fabulous sugar-sand beach, boardwalk and olympic-sized swimming pool with waterslide. Small children are well catered for with an amusement park and rides. The local area is great. We took a long walk along Pequot Avenue gawping at the magnificent properties and the spectacular views across the bay, especially at dusk and early evening. We also enjoyed a boat ride around the many famous local lighthouses - recommended. We were sorry to leave but sadly after any holiday real life beckons you back home and we had a plane to catch back to the UK. Would we stay again? In New London - yes. In Diane's cottage, definitely yes."

  • Rustic Historic Charm

"We enjoyed our stay here. Best feature was the location - the house is situated right on the beach and also just a short walk from town. The master bedroom is also huge and romantic, although no en suite bathroom. Nice back porch. The house overall is charming in a rustic way- the photos on HomeAway really don't do it justice at all. There is no bathtub in the house, which was an issue because we have 3 small kids. No Wifi either, which was surprising. Primitive outdoor shower. We had a nice ocean breeze for the most part, but we had a couple hot nights and ended up running out and buying a couple floor fans. Would stay here again but I hope the owner adds a couple amenities like Wifi and maybe a couple kayaks."

  • Lovely home a block from the beach

"I have rented many homes in the Crescent Beach area as did my father before me. This particular house was just up the block from private Crescent Beach and the snack shack. And because it sits up high on a high, you can see Niantic Bay. The house is very comfortable with 3 nice size bedrooms. Two bedrooms each have a queen bed and have air-conditioning and the third bedroom as a pair of twin beds, walk-in closet and a window box fan and a table fan. In total, the house comfortably sleeps 6. The house has two bathrooms each with a shower/bath, however, the upstairs tub needs repairing so is unusable at the time we rented. There is also a washer and dryer in the first floor bathroom. The kitchen is small but fully equipped. There is a small pantry filled with everything you might need in the kitchen including a Keurig and toaster. My recommendation would be to clear out some of the lesser important things to make room for dry groceries -- a small challenge. We shifted some things around to make room for our dry goods. There's a dining area and a very comfortable dining room with a Blu-ray player, nice tv, air-conditioning and good wi-fi. Also, a very large leather L-shaped couch so when we had the cousins over, they all had space to sit and watch a movie. The backyard is spacious and has an out door shower. There is also a very nice and very large barbecue grill. It came in very handy when we invited my brother and his wife and 3 kids over for dinner which we took turns doing during our 2-week stay. My greatest joy came from the birdfeeder. The house has 2 in the backyard but I only kept one full. I immensely enjoyed watching the birds come to the feeder. We also were pleasantly surprised that there's a groundhog that visits the yard regularly. We've never seen one in the wild so it was quite the treat for us city slickers. I would rent this property again, if possible. Excellent location, very agreeable and available owner who lives close by and the perfect weather made our stay very, very excellent and we hope to come back."
