  • A perfect find!

"This was our second month-long rental in Cedar Key and although our first one was also lovely, if we were to return to Cedar Key, it would be to this one. The house is as described. It is very well appointed and all of the furnishings are comfortable including chairs, rockers, porch furniture, and bed. As a previous reviewer noted, the kitchen is a cook’s dream. There is an amazing assortment of knives and they are sharp (first time ever in a rental). There are good, clean cutting boards, measuring cups and spoons, clean can opener (also rare), and an excellent set of pots and pans. Everything one might need is available in this kitchen. The scene from the screened-in porch overlooking the tidal flats is ever-changing and always interesting even when there is fog. The porch is ideal for viewing sunrises and birdlife. It is like sitting in your own comfortable personal bird blind. Bring your binoculars. We spent most of our time on the porch, including having our meals, as long as it was warm enough. When it wasn't warm, the heating system in the house was efficient. The neighbourhood is very quiet and this rental is on a corner waterfront lot. Perfect. It's a good area to cycle around if you bring your own bikes. It's a pleasant ride to Cemetery Point, to the airport; an easy ride into the town area. Cedar Key is impressively cyclist. The owner responded promptly to every question and was most accommodating. We definitely recommend this home to anyone looking for a comfortable, peaceful place to stay."

  • Quaint and Comfy

"Such a sweet and peaceful home. The owner and her sister were very nice and easy to work with. The back porch was the highlight of the trip, beautiful, serene. The first night a huge crane came up to the porch to greet us. We loved the stay. Thank you, Rosemary and Jan."

  • So Relaxing.......

"What a delicious surprise. Its a hidden gem right in the middle of town. We passed by it twice before we found it. The foliage and the natural yard and the huge tree (adorned with fairy lights) are awesome. Little turtles often came to visit. The fenced in yard is great for doggies....plus it appears that it also keep the many local feral cats out!!!Privacy abounds, yet we loved being able to walk a few blocks to eat and have a brew or 2!! The dogs loved walking along the water ways....and through the enchanting neighborhoods. The inside of the cottage is rustic with updated amenities and many delightful touches. ( Loved the hanging shutter divider in the family room.)The cottage reminded me of my aunts much loved cottage on the river up North. The porch swing is perfect for reading a book and sipping a G+T. We plan to return when the weather turns cooler in the fall.........it was in the high nineties while we were there, but that was the temp at home as well. Thoroughly loved our vacation!!! Thanks for sharing your beautiful cottage."

  • Wow, a birders' dream, a great house with great views!

"This year was my 5th stay at The Painted Sky Lodge, and I plan on returning. My wife and I seem to spend as much time on the wrap-around screened porch as we do inside the house. The ebb and flow of the tides bring groups of Ibis, Egrets, Wood Storks, Roseate Spoonbills, pelicans, kingfishers, eagles and osprey. We make use of the dock to launch our kayaks along with the fish cleaning station to clean our catch. The elevator is much appreciated for loading luggage and groceries, and some of our friends who would have trouble getting up and down the stairs. The kitchen is well appointed with a great set of pots and pans, however the electric stove always takes me awhile to get used to. I'm a gas stove cook at home. The living room is comfortable, with lots of seating and the large dining table is handy if you have a large family or group of friends for dinner. The bathrooms are clean and convenient--the showers have good pressure and the water gets hot and lasts through 3 or 4 showers in a row. The golf cart is a great way to go downtown or to the store, we often don't touch the car for a week or more. The manager and owner are very responsive--the front screen on the screen door was torn, and it was repaired the same day we called it in! We brought our bikes and rode the island. We also enjoyed walking to dock street to get a beer and a bowl of clams or dinner at Steamers. Bring your binoculars, you'll be seeing a lot of birds. The in-house library is a feature worth checking also--many interesting books for reading on the porch. Be sure to get the local clams and oysters, they are delicious! If you are looking for a golf or beach vacation, you will probably be disappointed. If you are looking to relax, have a fun group getaway, spend time with family, or take to time to walk, kayak, bike, and eat great fresh seafood, Cedar Key is the place."
