  • Castine is Amazing

"We stayed here for a week and it was fantastic. The house was very clean and comfortable and had a fantastic view from the front porch. We had everything we needed and the owners were very accommodating. We couldn't get the DVD player to function properly and they had replaced by the next day. Castine is a one of a kind town. Scenic and quiet with just enough to keep you busy. The car traffic is minimal and there is a wonderful 2 mile loop you can walk, jog, or bike on without worrying. The house was within walking distance to the grocery store and other restaurants in the quaint town. We loved it and plan to return next summer."

  • Historic Home in a Perfect Location

"My husband and I have stayed in this lovely Maine home several times over the past few years and count it among our favorite vacation destinations. The home is located in the middle of a thriving Down East town with shops, restaurants, galleries and waterfront all visible from the front windows! The owners were very knowledgeable about the local scene and provided many useful recommendations. The home is multilevel with much old New England charm. There is even a small "theater" on the second floor which actually hosted performances by many previous occupants. Highly recommended for anyone who has a love for colonial history and, of course, the waterfront."

  • The scene of many happy vacations

"Orchard House is a wonderful place that will draw you back year after year. I know it firsthand because for much of a decade it was my home away from home for an annual fall getaway to Maine. And I was ever so grateful for the warmth and friendship that Sally and Sean offered over time. They are first-rate hosts. I'll always think of their house as a place that held so many good stories for me. At moments, it was a den of solitude. I'd pack a pile of books and old New Yorkers to read (or maybe drop into the Blue Hill Library). And I'd walk many miles in the woods and happen upon a gaggle of wild turkeys or a porcupine on his way. Or sit on the shore of the lake with a cup of coffee and have a good think. It would be a fine place to write. Other times, the house was full of joyful conviviality. I invited friends who'd stop in for a few days and we'd explore the peninsula (guided by the house binder full of good suggestions for adventures) and then come home (often with lobsters fresh off the dock in Stonington) and cook and feast and drink good wine (see Max at the Blue Hill wine shop) and tell tall tales late into the night. It was such fun. And always, at the end of the day, no matter how brisk the late October air, there was a hot shower under a bazillion stars. Pure magic. I'm in a new phase of life now with a sweet pup and a partner who desires to explore more pockets of Maine and beyond. One day we hope to have our own place up north -- and I'll always be grateful to Orchard House and Sally and Sean for making my annual treks to Maine a much-loved respite and ritual -- the very best weeks of the year."

  • Adorable cabin, beautiful coast, flower meadow and sunsets, 3 kayaks!

"Our family of 4 (plus Lula the dog) LOVED Driftwood Cottage - we can't wait to come back again. It was cozy, clean, well stocked, and had everything we needed for a perfect week in a gorgeous part of Maine. Not only did we enjoy walks on the quiet lanes and nearby nature trails, and kayaking along the lovely Bagaduce River, but we discovered the wonderful nearby treasures like the Tinder Hearth wood-burning pizza and superb bakery on a pretty farm five minutes away; the fun short trips to nearby towns like historic Castine and Stonington at the tip of Deer Isle; and easy access to Belfast in one direction or Acadia National Park in the other. Rustic rural area yet relatively easily accessible, we also found incredibly nice neighbors and fellow travelers all around the area."
