  • Captain's Quarters

"This is a clean and lovely cottage with windows that take advantage of the lovely water view. The living space is large and extends out to a good size deck complete with rockers and a picnic table. Oversized windows in the living room and master bedroom, along with three skylights and a windowed cupola, keep the entire space bright and fresh. The kitchen is small but functional and well equipped. Though we did no grilling, charcoal was stocked for our use. We appreciated the convenience of a dishwasher, washer and dryer. We were charmed to be greeted with a loaf of locally baked bread and jar of amazing blueberry preserves. After a quick phone call for an address we (and our guests) went to the nearby stand and bought out the preserves. Oh yeah, we treated ourselves to the stand's fresh baked cookies too! We chose Bass Harbor in order to stay away from the hustle, bustle and traffic of the Bar Harbor side of the island and it worked out perfectly. We easily accessed a lot of hiking trails and entered the carriage trails (to bike) from western parking lots. The ferry to Swan's Island is a short bike ride away and we spent an enjoyable day there. Nearby restaurants and those in Southwest Harbor were quite good. If this sounds like a vacation you'd enjoy, by all means consider Captain's Quarters as your home away from home."

  • Four Winds

"The cottage, Four Winds, is on the point of a peninsula just north of Southwest Harbor. It is a beautiful spot with its own beach and private dock. The house is roomy, clean, well stocked and very comfortable. The three front upstairs bedrooms open out to a large deck with lounge chairs and a hammock. Our family has enjoyed a vacation here for the last two years. We just loved taking the youngest kids on sea glass hunts on the rocky beach and watching the older kids of all ages swimming and fishing for crabs off the dock. We all enjoyed our meals on the patio while drinking in the peaceful views of the ocean with boats sailing by. Four Winds is a little piece of heaven tucked away on Mt. Dessert Island!"

  • Return Visit to a Slice of Heaven!

"This house is truly a favorite of mine. This was an overdue return visit since I kept remembering the view and lovely town and have been wishing to return. And it didn't disappoint! Every time I walk into the living room, every bit of tension just melts away when I see the wall of windows with that black blue water peeking through the trees. I can only imagine that someone must have planned the grounds perfectly to provide lovely yet natural looking flowers, shrubs, and flora and skillfully placed trees that allow for an incredible view without sacrificing privacy. Just a perfect location since it is only moments to Southwest Harbor yet you feel like you are a million miles from everything. Great star watching at night by the way. In my previous review, I cited how well stocked the house is, and if anything, I think the house is even better stocked than last time; Tons of kitchen utensils, cookware, dishes, even books and games. It also has good, reliable internet. The owners are as helpful as can be. This place is very versatile and perfect for a family get away since it is kid friendly with lots of chairs for seating at the huge granite kitchen Island or the long harvest style dining table, or great for a romantic getaway or a girls weekend. I do like the fact it is so nice and quiet but yet Bar Harbor is only a short drive away."

  • Great value and nice place

"We enjoyed staying at the cottage for five nights, and found it to be a good location to explore Southwest Harbor and the rest of Mount Dessert Island as well. The cottage is clean and cozy with all you need to eat in if you so choose. There were only two of us, but the loft has two twin beds so two more people could have come. We hiked , ate lobster, and had a wonderful time . I would recommend the Corson cottage!"
