  • Perfect base camp in Bass Harbor

"Our second stay at the Ebb Tide with our pooch was as perfect as the first. Such a perfect location on the water in Bass Harbor. The house is wonderful with awesome views of the sunset from the house, patio with a fire ring, or chairs down at the water. It was so nice to have a quiet place to come back too and unwind after a day of exploring the wonderful hiking trails that Acadia National Park offers. Shelly maintains beautiful gardens around the house and has several bird feeders that attract lots of birds. The house is equipped with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable and if you do need something Shelly and Larry are eager to assist. We used the gas grill for half our meals, and enjoyed several local establishments in Southwest Harbor the other nights. Highly recommend "Eat a Pita" and the attached "Island Bar" for an awesome meal. Thurston's Lobster Pound is a 10 minute drive or use the canoe that comes with the house and paddle across the harbor and tie up at their dock to earn those steamers and beer! Many evenings we took a drive along the Seawall with walks at Wonderland Trail, Ship Harbor Nature Trail, and the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. We saw lots of deer each night we did this. The shower includes a floor to ceiling window that looks out onto the harbor - how many times do you get to enjoy a wonderful sunset while showering! There is a sun room off the master bedroom with a day bed that our pooch enjoyed - he could watch all the critters and keep us safe :) The house is very bright with lots of windows, but also in a very private setting. The hiking on Acadia is very similar to the terrain in the White Mountains of NH, just shorter peaks but with views of the ocean. Even though there were 2 or 3 cruise ships in Bar Harbor most days, we met very few people on the trails and had many summits to ourselves. Very enjoyable hiking! For dog lovers - dogs are welcome on most trails, but there is also an off leash dog park over by Seal Harbor where dogs and horses are welcome, but no bikes. It has a 5 mile loop along with other trails and a pond for the pooches to go swimming. Very worth checking it out. We highly recommend a stay at Ebb Tide - already planning a return trip next year."

  • Great place to stay for Acadia and Bar Harbor!

"Loved this family home. Two ovens, plenty of books, a grill with charcoal, great for dining at home. Beach towels for Sand Beach, loads of books, nice deck, beautiful flowers. Fans in every room, slept with windows open. Close to everything in Acadia National Park. 10 minutes to Bar Harbor. We would stay here again. Our family of four spent the first night cramped in a harbor side hotel in Bar Harbor. This place was terrific got our family to spread out. Tracy was very easy to work with and accommodated our change on dates due to a work conflict."

  • BREATHTAKING - Wonderful House!!

"Our family of eight stayed at the Barn at Mainstay in the month of March. We have been vacationing in Maine for about 20 years in different cabins and homes. We can say with all certainty that "the Barn at Mainstay" will be our "permanent" vacation house! The views are spectacular. The home was clean and the furnishings were all so nice. We loved daily shell hunting and the kids loved playing in the very big yard and woods in the back. Our family definitely recommends this beautiful home!"

  • Beautiful property in a great location

"We stayed at Folkestone Cottage for the second time for our family vacation. We love the location and the house is clean and well equipped. The location in Town Hill is far enough from Bar Harbor so you have no worries when the cruise ships come in. But most important is it is a short ride to town when you want to go!! Also Acadia National Park is on the way to town, the main reason we go! If you haven't been to Mount Desert Island or are a returning visitor like we are you should consider a stay here. There are no worries about other people making noise like in motels because there are no other people. It is truly your vacation home when you stay. I will be back again"
