  • Four Perfect Vineyard weeks

"We vacationed on the Vineyard for over 20 years. After selling our island home last year, we missed it terribly. I contacted Monica initially because I read that pets were "possible" and also because we love West Tisbury. I am so glad that we did. The home is magical. Since she uses it herself, the difference from an ordinary rental home is obvious. Lots of extra touches like Emeril, Le Creuset and Calphalon cookware. My husband and I love to cook and we had fun watching the food channel (in view in the living room from the kitchen prep counter) and trying new recipes. The counter is a large butcher block prep area that doubles as a breakfast bar. Monica even left her food processor for us to use. So many pretty little touches like Toile valences and bedcovers, down quilts, Ralph Lauren sheets and towels, lavender hand soap in the bathrooms. Things were not cheap or chintzy and we appreciated that very much. Since being on the Vineyard so many years, we share a concern for the local environment and also appreciated her leaving ecofriendly dish and laundry detergents in the house. We practically didn't have to bring anything. The outdoor furniture was as beautiful as the indoor furniture. Teak chaises, a love seat with comfortable cushions. Simple extras like that made us feel really at home. One of my absolute favorite rooms was the "sunroom." On rainy days, we would sit on the couch reading, looking out at the woods and gardens, listening to the rain. The room was so cozy and quiet, we felt like we were miles away from everything. Unlike further up-island, the shops are only 5-10 minutes away by car. The house feels really spacious and was easier for my husband since there are no stairs. I was worried when my adult children and grandchildren visited for a long weekend that we would feel crowded or bothered by the noise. We weren't at all. The floor plan seemed to work well for everyone. My grandchildren brought their bikes and loved the bike paths nearby that cross the island. We had one problem with the washing machine. I think my grandchildren overstuffed it or used to much soap. I called Monica and Roy came to fix it that afternoon. (We already knew Roy. He's terrific.) An added plus: Despite her hesitation, Monica allowed us to bring our golden, Benny, with us. Everyday, we took long walks along the country road and Lambert's Cove and visited the Scottish Bakehouse. We had such a relaxing time, we booked the month again for next year."

  • Excellent in every way

"Just back from a great week on the Island. It was our great fortune to stay at Kathryn's delightful house - ideally located for the beach, Vineyard Haven and all local amenities. The beach is spectacular and just a short walk from the secluded grounds. As the other reviewers rightly identify not only does the house dazzle with its charm and features but the excellent recommendations of Kathryn and the unfailing help and support of the caretaker mean that you are never stuck for ideas nor support on the Vineyard. We had an amazing experience that we'll treasure. We have no hesitation in recommending this fabulous property to other visitors. Thanks so much."

  • Comfortable family home

"We just returned from a lovely vacation at this comfortable and charming home! The island was busy for July 4th- this house was close enough to the action (fireworks, parades, ice cream!) to be convenient, but far enough to still be quiet when we needed a break. Walking distance to farmers market, playground, delicious bakery/sandwich shop, general store, galleries. Short drive to beaches, hikes, restaurants, etc. Excellent location! We were four adults, three kids, one baby, and one 40 lb dog and all felt very comfortable. Plenty of sleeping, playing, lounging, and eating space for us all. The house sits close to the road in front, but the large yard in the back feels very private and is perfect for kids and dogs. Clearly an old family home, which is part of the charm, but not lacking in modern amenities (well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, plenty of bathrooms, etc) and we were able to easily find everything we needed. George was a VERY helpful and attentive host. Highly recommend! Thank you!"

  • Memorable vacation in a impeccable home

"Our vacation was nothing less than perfect and the home was the same way. It was away from the busy main road but close enough to Edgartown and Oak Bluffs that shopping, dining and food was not a far distance. The home has such character and a beautiful story to its name and it being built; there's very few houses nowadays that have as much heart put into it as this one. The location, the very responsive and kind owner, and the story behind how this house became a home is more than enough reason to want to return again soon."
