"Be prepared for a lengthy review. I can’t say enough good things! This house was perfect for our family. Our teenager and 5 year old boy both loved it! The layout was spread out, so we never felt crowded. The house was clean and nicely decorated, and the beds were super comfy. There was good attention to detail (something as simple as labels on light switches!) to make the stay easy and intuitive for those not familiar with the house. We spent a lot of time outside. Lovely backyard! We kept commenting on how secluded it was, which seems to be a rarity on the densely settled island. Trees and lush vegetation border along the edge of the yard between the neighbor’s house -- you couldn’t even tell there was a house over there. We could catch a glimpse of the ocean from the backyard too, which was nice. There is a great little fire pit that we used several times during our stay, and a charcoal style BBQ, (which the meat-eaters in my family preferred over our gas grill at home). There was some road traffic, not too bad. We would help our son practice riding his bike every day, up and down the street. The walk to the beach was a little longer than 5 minutes; biking it was a breeze. But really, this location is very convenient to the town beach. The beach itself was perfect for our 5 year old. Clean, clear water! Small waves. The beach was clean, but people should understand it is a natural sandy beach, complete with seaweed, stones and shells. Quite nice. West Island is purely residential, and you will not find anything but houses, beaches and salt marsh on the island itself, which we like. Our family likes to Geocache, and there are several hidden right on the island! Within 15 minutes you are in New Bedford, which has an amazing historical district, it’s actually a National Park. We visited the Whaling Museum here, which is worth the trip! From New Bedford, we also took the ferry to Martha’s Vinyard for a day trip. The New Bedford historical district in and of itself would serve for a great day trip. With its old houses and narrow cobblestoned streets, it’s a great area for walking around, browsing the small shops and grabbing something to eat. Lastly, the icing on the cake was the owner, Laurie. Her communication was great! She was friendly and easy-going, and very attentive whenever we had a question. We took a vote on our last day, and it was unanimous – everyone agreed we would stay here again on our next beach vacation!"
