  • Jewel in the Crown of Saugatuck

"My husband and I needed to get away from Chicago for a week vacation before fall set in. We fell in love with this place. The wrap-around front porch with colorful Adirondack-style rocking chairs (great for morning coffee with the birds and squirrels), the screened porch, which doubled as an outdoor living room, the parlor and living area, the tastefully appointed and decorated kitchen, the simple, charming bedrooms, decorated with handmade quilts, the fact that there was a laundry in the basement which we could use after a day at the beach -- all made us happy, content and peaceful. But the beauty and history of this house with the great selection of books about Oxbow Summer School of Art and Saugatuck history, and the wonderful framed photos and maps of Saugatuck, Oxbow and Douglas made the house feel drenched in memory and love. Beautiful paintings of Saugatuck land and beach-scapes are hung throughout the house, along with tapestries of Oxbow and Saugatuck buildings. Adding to the sense of history and place are old weathered signs hung thoughtfully throughout the ground area as well, one sign which states "Oval Beach", in another spot, inscribed above a doorway are the words on a plaque “Bunky’s Room.” The lawn around the building, the grape arbor in the backyard, the stately trees which surround the house, the library, the antique oriental rugs, the sense of family all conspire to bring beauty, charm, memories and love alive. And if all that beauty and charm is not enough, you are minutes walking distance from everything in town. A perfect get away, and a jewel of a place! We plan to return!"

  • Excellent Family Reunion Spot

"Our family had a great retreat here. Plenty of room. Well equipped. Two floors, two kitchens so there was privacy for all. We had our adult children with us as well as the young nieces and nephews. It was close to get to for both our Chicago and our Detroit area families. We loved the fire pit out back. Plus it was an easy walk to the lake for everyone. Plenty of hiking as well as a short drive to town for restaurants and entertainment. We love to play card games and we had more than enough room indoors and out. We will be back again. Thanks Roger!"

  • Saugatuck House

"Overall the house is a good choice for a family vacation. It was a large clean home that is very centrally located. It was nice to have one home where the entire extended family could stay and by adding on the carriage house everyone had their own rooms. The yard is beautiful and it is an easy drive to explore other areas or a very short walk to town. Saugatuck was a great town to spend a long weekend in. For the price there were a few downsides to the home - there was a single role of paper towel - two garbage bags - and no extra toilet paper. So my family did a run to the market to supply the house with what we would consider basics. In addition the showers do not drain well (standing in 4 inches of water), and there was no hot water in the carriage house for 3 out of the 4 days we were there. All minor inconveniences but when spending 6000+ for 4 nights these seem like basic items any house would have."
