  • Gorgeous comfortable home in amazing setting

"We spent a splendid week at this home. The location is really perfect. It is a nice short walk into the center of town but you are far enough away that you are completely out of the hustle bustle and nestled in the woods. The back of the house faces a beautiful meadow where we watched the deer frolic and many different sorts of birds swooping and feeding and nesting. It was serene and lovely. The patio is sunny and a great warm spot for breakfast and general lounging. There is also a large screened in gazebo with a hammock and picnic table - perfect for dinner after grilling on the bbq. Inside is equally as wonderful. The "dome" room is a large, very comfortable and cool room with a big open kitchen that is very well stocked with everything you need for home cooking. You definitely don't feel like you are in a rental home with just the bare minimum for cooking - we love to cook and were very happy with the kitchen supplies. In the living room area there is a big cozy sofa for reading, relaxing or watching a movie on the wall projector TV. The house comes with a great selection of movies and we watched a few on the projector - which was fun. The extension on the dome is really fantastic - the back wall of the house is essentially all glass looking out to the meadow. The upstairs bedroom has nearly floor to ceiling windows (bring your eye mask for sleeping in) and is huge, airy and gorgeous. The bathroom/shower/dressing area design was amazing and very thoughtful -- the shower is huge! The downstairs bedrooms are very comfortable also, and open to the meadow side of the house. I recommend this house highly for a couple or a family or friends get a way. It was a real treat to stay there. Also -- very close by is a bike rental shop - we rented bikes one day and rode from the house out and around the Ashokan reservoir, that was really fun and we saw bald eagles flying over the reservoir, which was a treat. We also saw a bear -- which was a little scary but also cool! There is a lot of great hiking in the area -- and a really nice run/walk in the woods from the house in the Commeau Property -- just across Tinker St. Finally, Kim was a very professional and helpful property manager. I'll also add that if you have a dog and happen to be in need of "doggie-daycare" while you are there -- Camp Belly Rub in nearby Kingston was A+++ and I highly recommend them as well. Thank you very much!"

  • Relaxing get away!

"Arrived by bus on memorial weekend into the center of Woodstock. The cottage is around a 15 minute walk from the drop off point- The majority of the walk is via a path but there is a short section on an unpaved road (we took a detour via the golf course which shortened the walk on the road). Billy's wife Jane met us and gave us the keys from the cottage, which is located near their main house. We didn't see or hear too much from them throughout our whole trip. The cottage was clean and backs onto a running stream. The cottage has double glazing, so its your choice whether you listen to the running water or not from the bedroom, as the double glazed windows shut off any noise from outside. Had pizza on the day we arrived from the local pizza shop and ate the remainder for lunch the following day as the portions were pretty big (one small pizza for two is fine). We took advantage of the nice weather and grilled both evening, buying the meat and veg from the organic store in Woodstock. (just south of the pizza shop- not the one that backs onto rite aid or CVS). We finally met Billy as we were leaving and he kindly offered to drop us both off at the bus stop in Woodstock. We would definitely recommend streamside cottage!"
